According to the link only the opening ceremony is HDR.

I just got the "d" remote for both my 930c and 940c. I really don't like the buttons any less on it, but I do LOVE that the mic button is there and that I don't have to use 2 remotes anymore.

So if you are used to super sharp 3D then it will look slightly soft, especially if you **** close to the TV like me, 3m.

Even if you dont sit close the 3D picture lacks that wow detail that a good 3D set has.

On top of that the colours in 3D take a big hit and just looks plain wrong. I dont even think the 3D effect is even that good either. Lacks pop.

Ive owned 3 of these sets and they all performed the same. I had to swap out two sets because of a grey line that ran thru the middle of the screen. Im a gamer and it shows up really bad on games... normal TV you may never notice it.

3D in GAME mode is true HD.... but it flickers and judders a bit.... so its a horrible compromise.

Ive owned the model before the x940c... cant remember its name... it was passive 3D. Tho it still lacked a 3D POP effect.... the colors in 3D was awesome and it did not flicker and it was true HD 3D.

My favorite 3D TV to date is the curved Samsung 78JS9500. I Dont know what samsung are doing, but the colours is great, true HD 3D, and the depth and POP was amazing. You can clearly see the layers between every 3D element.

Sadly i did not keep the Sammy and stuck with the x940c because its 2D picture won overall for gaming.

But i do look back everyday and wished i kept the sammy for its 3D. Hopefully ill find a second hand one as they discontinue the line and i get it super cheap!
I can concur that... despite it being from slightly inferior to incredibly inferior in every other way, that my 3 Samsung UN65JS8500's that I went through did have superior 3D to my XBR65X930C. And the Tizen interface is more snappy and easier to use. Otherwise, when it comes to picture quality, black levels, uniformity, local dimming, upscaling, etc the Sony runs circles around the Samsung. But the Sony does have a softer 3D picture then the Samsung did. Kinda crazy cause the picture is so much better in 2D.

I am trying to work with Marantz support on an issue that I am having where I am not getting sound from my Samsung Blu Ray player (BD-F5700), only a picture. Marantz is asking me to "go through the settings and looking for the HDR color feature/video feature and disable it". Since HDR is automatically engaged only when there is an HDR source and the DVDs in question are not HDR, I don't know what to do? Any ideas?

Let them know you have disabled it and it still isn't working.

Sometimes tech support people just need to check something off their list or are looking for a reason to push you off.

I remember once I was on the phone with Verizon troubleshooting connectivity issues and after we checked a bunch of settings on my PC he insisted I check to make sure the power cord was connected. Umm.....

Has anyone experienced this issue with 3D? Many times in order to watch a 3D movie I have had to reboot the TV to get the 3D glasses to sync. Not every time but most times. At least I am able to get it to work every time but it is a bit of an inconvenience. I know it's the TV and not the Samsung player since I tried just rebooting it first and that didn't fix it but rebooting the TV does. Is there possibly a setting that would fix this?

I have been having a persistent problem with my 940C that is driving me nuts. I cannot get Plex or Kodi to pass anything but two channel audio over the optical cable no matter how many times I change the audio output setting (Yes, I've read the discussion about options 1 and 2 and I've tried that). I'm starting to think this is a firmware bug with no work around. It is annoying, because it USED to work.

I don't care about apathy

This began happening to me several updates ago then went away with a subsequent one. Make sure you have the latest update. Do a full reboot then see if the glitch is gone.

Thanks marcuslaw. This issue with 3D has been happening for awhile and I keep hoping that the next update will resolve it. I am pretty sure I am on the latest update but I will confirm that. Actually I have been in communication with Sony regarding my small voice control remote which hasn't worked in awhile and they keep saying it will be fixed with the next firmware update. Since that time we have had two firmware updates and still no fix on the remote. I will call Sony Monday and let them know about the 3D issue. When I spoke with them last they told me another firmware update was coming but they couldn't tell me when or if it was Marshmallow. When you say to do a full reboot I am assuming you mean a factory reboot? I could give that a try as that did fix another issue I had in the past.

How can I test my set for HDR? Is there content I can view/stream to test out the HDR on my set?

I've never seen HDR on the top left side when I hit display - is there any way to know its on (like you can see when something is 24p)?

Oh yes, and this wasn't always the case. But something has happened that has caused this. Doesn't matter if I use my Sony 3D glasses that came with the TV, or Samsung ones I bought for extras.

Check out Marco Polo - Chefs Table - Bloodline. Once you drill down to the next screen ie Episodes, you will see whether or not HDR is present in the title

It seems that a number of people are experiencing this issue. Like you it was working fine and than all of a sudden it stopped working and the glasses wouldn't sync until I did a TV reboot. The good news is that it always seems to resolve the issue. Of course we shouldn't have to do this every time we want to watch a 3D movie. I have been meaning to contact Sony about this an have just not around to it. a member of this forum suggested doing a factory reset which will try as a last resort after I talk to Sony to see what they say.

I just despise that process. But after so many updates it's probably not a bad idea. I'm gonna wait though to see if next update is really the long-rumored Marshmallow update before I do that. That will be such an extensive update that you will want to do a full blown reset anyway.

Ok - I see Marco Polo is playing in HDR. It completely changed the settings that I chose...

Can I go through and edit some picture settings in HDR mode? Or should I leave it as is?

Not a bad idea to wait for the next update. My last contact with Sony was about week or so ago and they told me that another firmware update was coming. Unfortunately they could not be more specific as to when or if it was the marshmallow.

Yes, but you may want to check out AustinJerry settings in the 940D thread. Also, might be better to wait till after the next firmware before changing more settings.

Sony continues to lose market share in the TV marketplace to Samsung and Vizio. I love my Sony TV and after my experience with a Samsung that I ended up returning after 3 different attempts at screen replacements and exchanges I want Sony to remain relevant. But IMO this is one of the biggest reasons why Sony is losing market share. Because getting any kind of information out of Fort Sony is impossible. They act as if telling you and providing a guide about settings is like giving up national security secrets to the Chinese. I'm frankly kind of sick of their nonsense.

You can edit, but the only thing I would change are the motion settings.

They act as if telling you and providing a guide about settings is like giving up national security secrets to the Chinese. I'm frankly kind of sick of their nonsense.
Some people really do talk out their arse and don't even bother to fact check before posting! Kind of glad I read this a week ago otherwise I would be none the wiser.

LG has increased its share of the North American 4K TV market to 18% in the first quarter, up from 15% in 2015. Industry leader Samsung has seen its share decline from 52% to 45%, while Sony has moved up to 19% from 15%. Vizio holds 12%, down from 13% in 2015.

As you see complete opposite of your statement!

Here's the link before you go off the wall about how I made this up.

Sony might not have the greatest support and that I agree on but don't mislead people Samsung also has terrible support along with 90% of other companies out there!

Why should I wait? Just curious.

I have a 930c. Can you post the basic HDR settings or send me Austins?

Just the motion settings? I feel the screen looks a bit "warm" for my taste...but if that's what's best for HDR I'll keep it.

Read my statement again more slowly. I did not say the North American market. The North American market is only part of the story Mr. Personality. Sony has seen their market share shrink 7 percent since 2008 to 5 percent. That is alarming because IMO the best TV's still are from the Japanese. But Panasonic has given up in the USA. So Sony is really all we have left.
