That boat sailed long ago. They don't even make these sets any longer. They have moved on to the flimsy garbage of D series that come dented or damaged out of the box. That being said they do have a 55" X930D but again don't expect it to be a 940C!

Hi fellow 75x940c owners.

Ive been playing PS4 Pro with HDR.

The Tv auto switches into HDR mode, in the picture options the TV greys out the "Auto Local Dimming" Option.

Does that mean in HDR, FALD is completely switched off? If would appear so as i can see grey clouding on both left and right top corners of my screen. Its a shame as HDR looks great and its a pitty the blacks suffer.

I read that i can reduce the grey clouding using the Ice "package" trick, and by pressure massaging of the screen.

I know normally we dont need to as fald when enabled fixes this, but with HDR not turning on fald we suffer clouding in dark scenes. Which is particularly annoying when gaming.

Just some quick imput from me. With my PS4 at 1080p HDR, the dark areas of games had less detail than the SDR version. So i was annoyed i got better bright area detail but lost shadow detail.

Then i got a PS4 Pro. In 4k mode... the same game HDR mode now has great shadow detail too! Looks amazing, just a shame our TV seems to not use local dimming for HDR. If it did... golly would be mind blowing.

I did the Marshmallow firmware update this morning and I'm hoping that it fixes the auto reboot issue I've been having when I'm streaming. At least we have some different graphics to look at if it does reboot or if we have to force a reboot like I sometimes have to do get my 3D glasses to sync. If this update fixes these two issues I'll be a happy camper, only time will tell. The previous software update which wasn't too long ago seemed to make the OS a bit more stable. Actually I would be happy if it only fixes the 3D glasses syncing issue as I can live with the other issue since it seems to be doing it less since the previous update. Something I have noticed from the previous update is that the internet speed the TV is showing is higher than it was previously, consequently I am not getting the buffering when viewing 4K videos on YouTube.

Yes, it will not be and I will still need a large shoehorn to fit a 55 in. Will do a mock up cardboard and place over the front of my 49, as it is too close to call. Might also fit but look stupid so there is that aspect, you know the WAF thing.

Did you download the zip or did it come from the "check for update" in settings?

The 940c has the Mastered in 4K setting which is set to On. Was just curious what is better. TV upscale engine or this player. Not really sure theres a way to defeat the upscaling on the player tho.

BTW, it looks fantastic.
Anyone? I have the 65x950B in my bedroom and was wondering if its necessary to have a 4K upscaling BD player in there as well? Or does the TV do the 4K upscaling regardless?

There is a new "Interactive TV" functionality that you're nagged to enable afterwards. There are also cosmetic changes to frequently used items like the on-screen volume level, which has a different font and is positioned in the lower left hand corner now. Is this the long promised Marshmallow upgrade? The Sony USA support page doesn't have the new info yet.
I just updated my 940c this morning but had to go to work. Does the new power up logo look like flowers or something? Because if it is then they are trying to make all the sets uniform. Just picked up the 65z9d for the bedroom and the volume level is in the lower left corner.

Actually when I turned the TV on yesterday there was rectangular box at the bottom right side of the TV screen with the info about a new software upgrade below the info there was three boxes; Update Now, Update later and details I just turned off the TV since I was running late for my Golf tee time since it said it would take 30 minutes than I didn't get a chance to to watch TV again until this morning. When I turned the TV on this morning the same info was there at the bottom right of the TV so I did the update. Never had to go to settings menu.

Yes it does, this is one of the changes with the Marshmallow update along with the volume level info at the bottom left corner as opposed to being in the middle, less obtrusive. Better cosmetics lets just hope for better OS stability.

Not sure if i can post this here but if anyone is looking for the 940c I have a contact who has 3 on hand brand new in the box and he is an authorized dealer for Sony. It will have full warranty through Sony. I can probably get a good pricing on these if I can get three serious buyers. I'll looking to purchase another one for myself and I highly prefer this model over all others simply because the speakers are hands down what complete this TV.

Terms are:
No returns. If I get a bargain on these then the condition is you keep them. No buyers remorse or that my wife is going to kill me if I don't return it. I'm not risking my relation with my guy because you weren't sure if you could buy this in the first place.

2) this is local to Chicago. I'll see what the options are for shipping/delivery. You are welcome to drive in to pick them up

3) let me see what price he'll give me if I take them all off his hand but I know this much that it won't be more than $3299+tax

After a year and half of almost useless updates, my X940C and X930C now works correctly for live TV streaming from the HDHomerun network tuner. No breakups, pausing, or lockup on certain channels. Changing channels is also a lot more responsive and less delay between channels. ATV is now do the thing that enticed me to buy an ATV. The TV guide is still all mixed up and there is still no PiP. I can live with the guide issue but I would still like to see PiP. I had an old sony tube wega TV in 2004 that did PiP with one HD channel and one SD channel. I used to watch two football games at the same time, I was hoping I would be able to do the same with live streaming. TV finds my tuner on the network with ease.

I haven't done much with the new OS, but below are a few of my observations.

Likes of Marshmallow:

"Help" button brings up a very nice help menu
"Display" button now actually performs a TV Display when using DirecTV instead of the DirecTV display (yellow button performs that function)
Volume bar is placed much better at the bottom left corner
The clock works on the TV display, instead of displaying the time as --:--

Dislikes of Marshmallow:

Still no HDR badge in the TV display
"Display" button no longer brings up resolution/info in Netflix app
Still no indicator of 24p or 60p on UHD material

"Display" button no longer brings up resolution/info in Netflix app
Still no indicator of 24p or 60p
Mine is showing the resolution for the Netflix app as well as 1080p/24.

What version of Netflix are you using? You are on Marshmallow?

My TV shows 1080p/24, but not 2160p/24 or 60. That's what I was referring to with the last point. I updated my original post to clarify.

You are right it doesn't show 24p for 4k, only for 1080p.

I'm on 6.0.1 with the latest Netflix app from the playstore.

For clarification, when you hit the Display button, it shows the resolution, audio, etc? I will check my Netflix version number. The app definitely changed after the upgrade to Marshmallow. Maybe yours didn't change, or mine hasn't updated??? I'll post my version number when I get home.

Thanks.

Yeah in small white fonts at the top left corner.
I'll do the same and check the app version as well when I get home.

One word for you bro! Envy........
