Be careful with optical out from tv to your 3050. I did that with 2 of my soundbars and both of them make the poping sound. I been on the phone with Sony the last two days and the customer support is telling me that only PCM works perfectly with optical out. they are working on the problem and it will likely be solved by the next update in July. the poping sound doesn't happen often if you set the digital audio out on auto 2 instead of auto 1

QUOTE=loudog2;35293130]Should I run my HDMI from the satellite/cable box through my Yamaha 3050 to the TV? Or from box to TV skipping the receiver for better picture quality? Then optical from TV to receiver for TV apps? It's getting installed Saturday. So I'm trying to figure out what cables to run behind the wall.[/QUOTE]

The only thing I dont like, and will affect music more than tv, is that the left speaker has all that room next to it and the right one doesnt. I have 2 more speakers like that for the rear and the center channel is in the stand.

Well, gotta go!
Looks great mike. Are those def tech 7001 bipolar sc speakers btw?

Until the newest receivers arrive with 4k & HDR I am running my components direct, then the optical tv out to the AVR. I also have a Yamaha.

Thanks for the 4K download link.

I grabbed a few and they look awesome. I tried to play them through my NAS first and it worked fine, but there was some stuttering. I thought that maybe this is due to the video being 4K, but even 1080 MKV files I play also have stuttering, not sure why that would be. The
TV is directly wired with gigabit Ethernet so I'm hoping this is a firmware issue.

I also tried to rename a few MKV's that would not play to MP4 and voila they played fine. Some MKV files play and others don't and need to be renamed. Maybe someone who does encoding can comment on why that might be. I know Sony has had issues with MKV since back in my PS3 streaming days but I would think today this should be a non issue.

Can another owner try a 2:35 movie through the video app for me?

Any 1:85 movies I have look perfect but 2:35 will not display properly. Even if I try expand or fit screen the video is too tall. Actually fit screen simply ads black bars top and bottom that cover the picture. I also noticed that 1:85 movies don't display the expand or fit screen options at all.

Other than these small items the picture and sound are blowing me away so far. Awesome set.

I might be wrong, but from memory the ethernet port is not a gigabit port? It does support wireless AC though if you have it available.

No, they are the 8000 series. (8001s?) Its been awhile, Id have to check the exact number but I know its 8000 something. (I know...sacrilege around here lol)
The surrounds are 7000 series. (7001s?)
The receiver is a Denon 5803.
Yeah, its a little older but still pretty powerful.

Just fired it up and installed downloads....
Picture out of the box was pretty damn good, I made some slight adjustments and Ive been promised calibration numbers after the shoot out if I dont read them here first.
So far Im fairly impressed and Ive only seen it displaying crappy Comcast so far.
Tomorrow Ill hook up the xbox1 and try some Blu Ray and see how games look.
So far Im really happy.....
Again thanks to everyone here and Robert over at VE.
I almost bought the Sammy but.......I took Roberts advice and saved a few bucks along the way. (I do wish the Sony was still 78.5" though.)
Im sure the owners of all these top TVs are all happy as the Sammy and the Sony are both very good.
Regardless of the shoot out, I dont think there are any "losers."

Tomorrow my son wants to watch Avatar.
Talk to you guys tomorrow.

One last thing.....
Being the Denon I have predates 4k video switching, Im thinking of running an optical line from the cable box to the Denon.
Any pit falls there?
I believe I read about some sound synching issues.
I can adjust delay with the Denon so maybe that helps?
Thanks!

Btw...
Built in speakers DO sound pretty good, though it could use a little sub bass....
Not bad as an alternative if you dont have or dont want to fire up external sound amps.....

The standard answer to your question is to try both and see if one is better than the other. For the AVR make sure you have it set to pass thru to see if the Sony scales better then try it with the AVR doing the scaling i.e. have AVR send 1080p60 to TV.

For the arm mount I use this one
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sanus-vi...&skuId=1599271

It is expensive but the 940c tv weighs 120 pounds and this mount is very solid. The arm does retract so the TV sits about 6 inches from the wall.

If that is true, we could be back to bulky displays with fans and exceeding Energy Star specs.

LG could never make a top of the line 4k tv idk why anyone would think LG could master an oled. U can hand anyone a sports car but not everyone knows how to drive it. If sony made an oled the lg version would look like a joke.

Hey guys - I just received this email from Amazon. It looks like HDR is available their for the Samsung. Let's hope the 4K app gets developed this month for our beloved Sony's. See below:

Hello,

We're writing to let you know that HDR (High Dynamic Range) video is now available with the Amazon Instant Video app on your Samsung SUHD TV (JS9000, JS9100, and JS9500 series).

You can find HDR titles by opening the "Ultra HD" tile on the Amazon Instant Video Home screen. At this time, HDR playback is available for Season 1 of Amazon Originals Series “Mozart in the Jungle” and the pilot episode of upcoming Amazon Originals series, "Red Oaks." We're continuing to expand our selection of HDR titles; for titles with this feature available, an "HDR" label is included in the video details.

To play HDR videos, you may first need to update the Amazon Instant Video app. You may also need the latest version of your device software.

You can manually update your device software by following these steps:

1. Press the "Menu" button on your remote
2. Open "Support"
3. Select "Software Update" and then select "Update Now"
4. After downloading the update, your device will restart to complete installation
