I got this update a few weeks ago. Since the update, I've had complete audio loss twice which required a reset. Both times happened coming out of a commercial.

Their disk stock is sometimes limited on new issues so some wait time occurs but they are reasonably priced and there's nothing like watching 4K disks on your OPPO!

Have you been happy with them? I was going to rent from them last week. Then, I came across a few negative reviews and got cold feet. The negative reviews were for scratched discs and having them claim that they said that they did not receive returned discs.

I haven't had a problem with them. Did have an instance to communicate online with them once and all was handled promptly and correctly. No bad disks yet received after over a year's of service with them. Monthly price went up a buck or two a few months ago to current level. I subscribe to the 2/month plan which in light of the new titles they have monthly works out about right for me. Frequently have to wait a week or two for new releases though they have started offering 2 business day shipping for an additional $3. Used to use Netflix mailed disks and there was no delay and the disk arrived in 2 days max but until a large player like that appears, this has turned out to be the next best thing IMO.

I recently purchased Sony's X800 4K player last week and it does play You Tube HDR videos. Watched the 4K disc Sully on it last night and it looked fantastic. I would say it rivals the Panasonic UB900 when It comes to video quality and it plays SACD and DVD-A disc's to boot. I had to take my Panasonic player in to Best Buy for repair ( couldn't get a hardwire Ethernet connection to work) and they said it would be about 2 weeks before I got it back. I actually picked up this player while I was there on a whim since they had just reduced the price plus I had a $50.00 rewards card so the price was right and I have 45 days to decide whether to keep it or not. It is starting to look like I am going to keep it as eventually as I will get a 4K TV for the bedroom.

I actually have been having my audio go out also but this happened to me a number of times while watching Direct TV before I did this latest firmware update. I was able to fix it by just turning the TV off and back on again. I actually thought the new HR54 client Genie that I recently upgraded to was the problem but lately it hasn't done it. The reason I thought it was the HR 54 DVR was because if I went into the audio menu and turned Dolby Digital from On to Off it also fixed the audio.

SO,,, are you saying when watching HDR Video Clips on YouTube, the TV set is showing you are in HDR Mode like it does when watching a 4K HDR Movie on the X800 player????

The TV YouTube app will never play HDR.

If you use a player (X800 or other) than can send an HDR10 signal, then the TV "should" display it as HDR, but the decoding is being done by the player at this point not the TV.

But we need to wait and see to be 100% certain since nothing has been released YET.

Yes it automatically switches to the HDR picture mode just like it does when playing a 4K disc that has HDR or when streaming a show from amazon that has HDR. You would think our TV would be able to do this but it was mentioned in a previous post that it will never be able to do this, something to do with SoC in our TV. I'm not sure what SoC is exactly maybe someone could explain that. I have tried to ask Panasonic, since I have there 4K player also if they might enable that feature in there player with a firmware update but couldn't get an answer. I thought Sony's customer service was lacking but Panasonic is even worse.

So far I am happy to report that I have had very few issues with the TV since the update. It does appear to be more stable and the remote is more responsive. I did get one of those pop-up messages in a rectangular grey box stating something (I forgot what) has stopped working but no rebooting on it's own, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I don't know when I will get to see HLG which was part of this latest firmware update but I do have the HR 54 Direct TV 4K receiver so maybe it will show itself on some of the live sporting events that they occasionally have on one of the 3 4K channels. Also I was wondering why I don't see the "like" option anymore on any of my posts did I break some forum rule?

Sony xbr75x940c stand

Need the stand(s) for my 940c. Found them at encompassparts.com. But not clear if they come with screws, and encompass cannot determine. What size/thread do 940c stands require, and how many?

For those with both a streaming unit and a stand alone UHD player.

Assuming you have adequate speeds for seemless streaming, do you find the PQ of UHD movies (via Ultra, Vudu, etc) to be better, worse, or approximately the same vs a dedicated player?

Since the price is the same ( which I think is ridiculous, should be at least $5 less) I was trying to determine if it made sense to purchase a streaming version (instant access with no storage worries) vs buying the hard copy and hoping that the UV version will give you streaming 4K vs a BR version which seems to be the more common scenario.

Thoughts from those who have made the comparisons. Thanks

Physical disc is the best, but streaming is acceptable. The disc will give you HDR10, but the streaming version may or may not depending on the studio and where it is redeemed.

I agree 100%. I stream from Netflix and Amazon and own an Oppo UDP-205 UHD DVD player. The PQ from a physical disc is far superior, IMO.

Search for Tanaka 887-021 or Tanaka 887021 or Hitachi 887021 for the best price shipped to you.

For those who don't follow the Master List of currently available 4k HDR titles thread...

Best Buy now has an exclusive SteelBook version of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" up for Pre-Order which contains both the 4K/UHD and the 3D versions (Yea!!!).

Here are the direct LINKS for both the US and Canadian sites:

Note: This will be Disney/Marvel's very first 4K/UHD Blu-ray disc!

My 75x940C just broke with 4 blinking red lights. Bough it back in April 2016 and the manufactured date was Feb 2016.

I'm very disappointed that the warranty covers only one year. It should be a few years for internal parts that or at least cover some part base on hours of usage.

My TV has around 500 hours only. Hardly use it.

I wrote to Sony and hopefully they can assist. Anyone with good news with their TV just past warranty?

I'm scared of purchasing another Sony product nowadays.

Also, when working, the TV is sluggish at times and will restart randomly.

Unhappy Video Dropout Glitch

I have the following devices in the video flow: Oppo UDP-203 (recently serviced by Oppo to resolve potential FW bricking); Marantz 8802A; and a Sony 940C UHDTV. All devices have the latest FW. Signal travels across certified premium cables (Oppo's brand in the case of the 203). During playback, video drops out once or twice during the film for approximately 5 sec. Audio continues to be heard. During 3-D Blu-ray playback, the active shutter lenses unsync during the dropout. Video returns after approx 5 secs and, in the case of a 3-D disc, the glasses resync a few secs later. This occurred most recently, twice, last night during Avatar (3-D). This did happen before the Oppo was recently serviced causing me to wonder whether it could be caused one of the other two devices in the flow (though one can't rule out a deeper programming error in the Oppo I suppose). I should point out that it does not happen while playing a disc in an Oppo BDP-95. Regardless, any guesses on what might be the cause?

I run through my Yamaha. I do not have any drops with my 203 and 940C. Your HDMI out from the Denon is also certified? Have you bypassed the Denon for troubleshooting?

This time i used help button on remote to go into troubleshooting area- clicked many areas until finally found something that said "personal" under one of the settings- clicked this & it got into the home screen area- under apps found sony update app & deleted cache & file (or whatever other area was called). all is normal now. Very briefly turned on Amazon app on a HDR movie- the lip sync seemed normal & using the volume button did not seem to have the skipping it did previously- Only did this quickly- more later tonight.

So, I've done the update and I see the reference to "Personal" in the help docs. However, when I click the link, it takes me to the home screen but nowhere else. Feels like perhaps something didn't go right in the update.

Also, I had a bunch of "... has stopped" dialogs come up after the update (Local Storage, Navigation, etc.). Beyond frustrating.

I suppose I could go through the full reset process again (did this once after initial MM update) but this seems silly after a minor update.

Yes, a certified premium from monoprice delivers the video and audio from the 8802A to the 940C. I have not tried bypassing the Marantz. That's a good idea.

Off topic...Are you going to make a future strategic move to replace your 940C with a Sony OLED? I'm not trying to be nosy but just curious. Looking back I sure wish that I bought the 940C but just couldn't afford it at the time.

I probably won't be back in the TV market for another 3-5 years unless the 940C craps out on me before then and is still within the extended warranty. Assuming it lasts past 5 years, I will start looking for a new set and expect that it will be an OLED unless there is no OLED that supports 3-D. I'm fully prepared to pay premium dollars for a large flagship if necessary to get 3-D. Now if no OLED supports 3-D, then I'll look at any available FALD LED sets that do.

Check to see if your credit card has any extended coverage automatically when you use it. This happened to me with a tv once and my Visa covered the repair cost.

This is one of my biggest fears with this television. At this price point, it should really have a 2 year warranty. Fixing electronics is expensive these days.

I got lucky and Sony replaced my motherboard shortly after the warranty expired. If they won't try to find the part and replace it yourself. I did this myself with an older Sony tv. Saved me a couple hundred dollars. I watched the tech do the repair and it was not that difficult.

I also had my main board on my 940C replaced. Geek Squad warranty. It may be easy to procure a main board online but there are also steps needed to enter the special service mode where the main board needs to be programmed to your model Sony television and has to also have the correct serial number input into the main board. I assume messing up the model selection process would prevent the correct firmware updates from occurring.

The tech that did mine just replaced the motherboard and updated the firmware. Nothing special.

Question do the C and D models need another update for HDR10 or HDR10+ or whatever it is? Or is just having HDR period is enough? Just wondering!

Same with mine and after he did it has been much better, but I realize it will never be perfect.

They just added HGL to HDR in the latest update not sure when I will actually be using that but if they added it must be something we will see more of in the future, possibly on Direct TV.

I know it's pretty late to be asking this question, but do you owners think it would be worth it to "upgrade" to a 930C from my current XBR65X850C? I like my 850C but I feel I'm missing out on HDR due to lack of any local dimming. The problem is I enjoy 3D Blu ray so any new TVs are out for me, and I read that the 930D had terrible 3D that Sony refuses to fix. I have seen refurbished 930C's for a good price that offer returns so I don't see it as a huge risk. My sources are a Sony UBP-X800, PS4 Pro, and Amazon Video for HDR.
