I tried connecting the HDMI directly to my pre/pro and then another HDMI from one of the pre/pro's two HDMI outputs out to the TV but just got a blank screen.

In retrospect I realize this was a stupid question since my pre/pro doesn't pass 4K. On another note by just connecting the Optical output from the TV to my pre/pro it gives me DD 5.1 for my Direct TV programing, my over the air antennae and also streaming Amazon prime video from my TV. I would have thought I would have had to connect the optical output from my Direct TV DVR to my pre/pro but not necessary.

Anyone else have apps you don't recognize shutting down lately for no apparent reason? I get messages like "imogee app must close - cancel or yes". this happy sometimes right in the middle of a Blu-ray playing back from an Oppo through the Marantz and other times while watching cable TV.

I wonder what's causing this? I am somewhat relieved to learn it's not just my 940C. My 3-year extended warranty is just about halfway to the end.

Well I had the main board replaced approx 4 months ago no more random shutdowns, but random APP shutdowns. Anyone having had an Android phone would be familiar with random Apps shutdown, so I believe it's more of a Android software issue. I don't think it is hardware related, just my 2 cents worth.

Just realized I can't play VUDU 4K content on any of my Sony 4K TVs. So sad. Is anyone else disappointed in this?

Worst, the 4K purchase of Guardians to the Galaxy vol2 on VUDU is not available on other portals, only the HD version is shown purchased through Disney Anywhere or Ultraviolet. Does VUDU have a proprietary version of UHD?

Since the last update, Android is just bugging out- apps constantly crash, as do other programs running in background.

Now that I've gone on and purchased a nVidia Shield, I was curious if there is a way to disable Android on our Sony TV. Anyone have any insight into this? I did a full system reset, and would love to just uninstall everything.

Thanks

Emmett

Unplug it...that's the only way to disable Android. BTW, it's the OS on the TV, like iOS or Android on a phone. You have a brick without the OS.

However, you might be able to uninstall or disable some of the problem apps. Go into settings-->Apps and see what you can uninstall or disable (especially if you know the problem apps).

These instructions from Reddit were pretty handy cleaning up the TV home screen. Try and see if this works.

Remove Featured Apps Section

Open Settings > Apps
Find Sony Shelf and click on it
Force Close it
Set Notifications to off

Another thing that is annoying is the Sony Select app, which also suggests apps to get that Sony recommends.

Remove Everything Related To Sony Select
Open Settings > Apps
Find Sony Select and click on it
Force Close it
Set Notifications to off

With the update to Android Webview app the previously updated YouTube app will now play 4K content at 4K resolution.

I actually went back to the previous YouTube before the update because I wanted to force the 4K resolution. My Sony 4K player's YouTube app has the same format as the YouTube app after the TV's YouTube update which is another reason I uninstalled the YouTube update on the Sony so I can have the two different formats. Will it play HDR video's like the Sony 4K player does?

Thanks Paul, I did try a few HDR YouTube videos and no HDR just wanted to make sure it wasn't my TV. It seems weird that the Sony 4K player can do it but not the TV.

According to Sony the chip in the 2015 TVs does not have the capability of doing YouTube HDR. Only Sony TVs produced in mid-2016 and later have that capability.

I don't know, but I would never consider using anything but water and a cloth. I would be afraid to use any kind of solvent.

Hi all. After sitting on the fence for a while looking at getting a 4K tv, I jumped off the fence and into the 65" X930. I had read and watched several reviews.. all very flattering, so yesterday I pulled the trigger and picked one up. I had an Oppo UDP203 for a couple of months, awaiting the time when I could fully utilize the capabilities of it, so after setting up the tv, we watched "The Revenant" in 4K last night. All I can say is WOW!!! I was extremely impressed with the picture on this TV. So many of the scenes in that movie were absolutely gorgeous.
I was initially looking at the Samsung QLED series and also the LG OLED, but came across the reviews of this Sony on Rtings website. I hope I made the right decision, all things considered.
Best Buy in Canada had the X900 on sale for about $1000 less than the X930, and one review I read said that it wasn't worth the extra $$ for the 930, yet another review said if you have the money, get the 930 over the 900. I'm sure I would have been just as happy getting the 900 home and set up, but I didn't want to have the "I wish I had gone with the higher model" feeling stuck in my head.
Anyway, just wanted to pop over to this thread and say Hi, I guess.
Dale.

Anyone have a problem with losing volume on tv when's turning on after hours of no use? Also sound base lose volume too? It not this model Tv but a Sony 830C with android 2015 set. I can't find a thread for this model? Soft reboot is the only thin that brings volume back. Happens all the time now in the last few weeks. Could anyone point in the right direction?

No, but I have had the message the TV will turn off in one minute due to inactivity, even though I have been changing channels, volume, or app usage. This has happened twice on 930C and once on the 940C this past week. There is nothing I can do but let the TV turn off after a minute and turn it back on. I don't know if it could be related. Just odd that I've never had any concerning issue since the last major update and now this out of the blue, unless there was some background update I don't know about.

Thanks I'll try those to see if I can get some feedback otherwise I'll call Sony support. It's a friends tv, I have the 930C and have no issues except with the wireless sub woofer but it's not the same problem. I figured they both have the same operating system.

Seems like a software issue I'm thinking? No sound coming from tv speakers or sound base which is the HT ST-1 after turning on.

When u update Tv you have to make sure USB fob is disconnected. Shut your auto updates to off that will solve your problem. I have another issue with a different model 830C no sound when turning on and I have soft reboot every time to get sound back.

Is it me or does anyone else hate the HDR effect on our TV? Is there a way to turn it off? It greys out night scenes instead of it being black.
