It's been more then 2 months since the last firmware update and I never got the push. The waves never lasted that long. I wouldn't be surprised if they saw a lot of complaints on the last firmware they stopped pushing it. That's the reason they push it out in waves in the first place.

Maybe.... but who knows. I've never received the push notifications that I have new firmware either. The process to install via USB is so simple, I've never found it to be problem.

As @CCsoftball7 noted, the picture quality remains the same from the update, but the system seems to operate at a better pace. I too found no reason to do a soft reset, and everything operated smoothly upon initial boot up.

One awesome thing - my sound issues are completely gone! On DirecTV, we were getting a screeching sound when fast-forwarding on the DVR (sounded like nails on a chalkboard). It came with the previous update and left with the new one. Highly recommended!

The new update didn't fix my sound problem with my 930c. I didn't have the screeching problem - the issue introduced with the last update is that there's no sound for a couple seconds after coming out of a fast forward or fast reverse when watching recordings on my Tivo HD. Put me down as one owner as not pleased with Sony. Two months waiting for an update to fix a problem caused by Sony and I'm still waiting.

What amazes me is the amount of different types of issues this TV has been reported to have by different owners (I certainly have had my share) but than again the a/v combinations that people have I guess maybe it's to be expected. I called Sony yesterday about why I wasn't getting a notification on the last two updates and the customer service person intimated that it may have to do with my TV being almost 2 years old, but that I could still download it via the web-site.

I decided on yesterday to update my 940C via usb drive, because I hadn't received notification for the last 2 updates. Afterwards, I see 'Displays High-Quality signals on HDMI inputs 2 & 3...' , which was originally pointed out by daimler2015. Does anyone have an explanation for this? I thought on the 940C all 4 inputs were able to handle 'High-Quality signals'.

The TiVo HD is a 10-year-old piece of technology that is no longer supported by the manufacture. TiVo had a killer deal for upgrading the old hardware to a TiVo Bolt/Pro/VoX. It's hard to blame Sony for a problem with a discontinued product - no matter how frustrating. My TiVo bolts aren't having a problem with no sound out of FF FR, so perhaps this is a bug in the TiVo HD?

Do you have the TiVo HD outputting PCM or Dolby Digital? Maybe try switching audio between PCM/Dolby or Dolby/PCM?

Think it was mentioned that the 940d is only on input 2 and 3. They probably just forgot to change the caption for the 940c. Can you still set the other inputs to enhanced in the settings?

Yes, inputs 1,2,3 and 4 are STILL, 'Enhanced format' abled.

Does anyone know exactly what the "True Cinema" Motionflow setting does? I've now noticed that the Custom setting is shared between SDR and HDR. I like to use Custom with Clearness 2 for SDR to lower the brightness, but also want Min/Min settings in HDR to lower black level. I tried the "Clear" preset but found it introduces SOE. So I would like to set True Cinema for HDR but I don't know if it would affect my HDR gaming with additional lag or something. I don't want to be changing these settings every time. I suppose I could run dual HDMI out from the AVR and have separate inputs for SDR/HDR worst case.

Isn't turning motionflow off recommended for HDR?

Unhappy What happened to my sound via external inputs?

I took the update and I can't say when I can remember that I had problems after an update with my 930C. However this time, non of my HDMI inputs are providing audio. The internal Netflix app is fine with sound, and if I enable them, I can get system sounds. If anyone has an idea on how to resolve this, please let me know!

I did reboot the tv, but I think I'm going to power cycle it as well and see. Until you hear back from me on how to resolve, consider one 930C owner without audio after the latest update...

OK, after full power cycle, I started getting audio again. All were fine then, except for my set top box from Spectrum, which decided to change the digital audio output to "other", (whatever that means!) Switching it back to HDMI did the trick.

phew

Best update in a long time.
This one fixed 95% of my issues ( maybe 100% but need to give it more time to see if anything resurfaces).

Can you please elaborate on the issues it fixed? I’m still weary of updating as I don’t want to mess with anything only because I’m loving that this tv has been providing without any updates to this point. Thanks! Updates sometime scare the crap out of me

TV hasn’t reset itself once since this update vs every 1 or 2 days max
TV use to squeal sometimes when pausing or changing channels (6-8 times daily) but is now stable/silent
Color seems a bit more vibrant (deeper?)
Apps seem a bit snappier

No negatives that I have seen or heard so far.

Also, I think the HDR is a bit better as well. I'm not sure, but maybe they tweaked the local dimming???

YES! I thought that also but it was subtle so I wasn't sure if I was just imagining it (looking for more improvements).

I installed the new firmware today and await the results. Unlike most, I purchased this set a month ago brand new, a January 2016 built set. I upgraded it to Android 7.0 and have been getting a reboot on startup about once a week. Hopefully this fixes it. Funny that I have never had any firmware issues with my 850C that I've owned since December 2015.

I usually use eBay's recently sold search to see what people have paid, but no 65X930C were listed. There were quite a few 65X930D sets. In general, these went between US$500 and US$1300.

Yes I checked there too but the C models are supposed to be sought after more than the D with the exception of a Z9D and are supposedly better sets from what I’ve read on here.

I updated my 930C to the latest software.
I think everything does feel just a little bit faster. But I never had any issues before.

I still love this TV!

Yes! I love this TV as well. Maybe its my anxiety but updating firmware always has me weary. The more positive comments the more comfortable I feel proceeding. It sucks this TV is a few years old now, which brings in less traffic, these sets are fantastic! My jaw still drops every night I pop in a 4K disc!

Thanks again all!

Thanks everyone!

Over the weekend I decided to buy a USB drive to do the latest firmware update this week, since my TV wasn't alerting me about the new update. So naturally Monday morning when I turned on the TV the notification of a new firmware update appeared. Anyway I did the update and based on the past couple of days the TV does seem to be more responsive. Also when watching an Amazon Prime Video show that's 4K HDR the TV is now much quicker to reach the 4K resolution where previously it took almost a minute for the resolution to get up to speed and the audio stutter is quicker to correct itself so that is also a plus. As far as seeing any changes in the picture quality I can't confirm that it is any different (might be a bit more vibrant) but at least it is still as good as it was. Previously I had read you should do a factory reset after doing a new firmware update. I haven't yet done that and prefer not to since it is a bit of a hassle to have redo all my settings so I don't plan on doing one.

I only do the factory reset when it's a major version. Like going from 6.x to 7.x otherwise I don't bother.

I have a 940c and never got the January Naugat alert / update and no longer see that file on the support site.
I see that the recent pkg 5 update also includes Naugat 7. (I better download it in case I don’t get the alert)
Do you think if/when I get the alert it will be ok to update?
I hate to do a factory reset because I have Google dual factor authentication and it was a pain to get YouTube

Good to Know as I really would like to avoid having to redo all my settings info and what not.

I would do the update when you get it. I have always done it from the TV, but had to be patient as it didn't always come right away as it seems Sony does not send out the firmware all at once. Of course if you get inpatient you can go the USB route via there web-site and as I said I almost wound up doing.

Ironically right after posting no update alerts for the last two upgrades I received the alert when I turned on the TV.
Updated to Naugat plus latest fixes with no issues.

It's been 4 or 5 days since I did the upset and no issues so far. I like the way they changed the OSD to be on one side and smaller so when you are making picture setting changes it's easier to see the results.
