If it supports 4k, then yes. Otherwise, it can be left at standard.

I have Direct TV with there 4K DVR and I use HDMI 4 with enhanced. This was why I was concerned when reading the info on the new firmware that Indicated only HDMI 2 & 3 were for 4K content. I believe it has been verified that all 4 HDMI inputs are 4K capable.

How is their 4k? I’ve been thinking of upgrading my DirecTV to 4k.

I’m downloading an update now. I had my automatic update shut off. I checked for one and it was there ready for me. Anyone know what this one does? Also what should I do after it downloads to avoid hiccups?

I would say that the 4K from Direct TV is a mixed bag. Some of the programs I have had to adjust some of the picture settings to get the picture to look more realistic. I watched the Master's in 4K and it did look pretty good but when switching back between a non 4K channel that was also showing the Master's the difference was minimal. This could be because this TV does a great job with upscaling. One show that stood out to me was the Norah Jones concert at the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London.

Does anyone have any concern about how warm this TV gets when playing HDR content? I’ve been extensively playing Gran Turismo Sport (which absolutely spectacular in HDR on this set) and I noticed this thing is just pumping out the heat after a few hours, reminds me of a plasma. I would hate to think I’m shortening the lifespan of the TV with HDR gaming.

I don't think it's HDR specific. I would just be sure to have it in a well ventilated area and enjoy. They do produce some heat, but it seems to be normal.

Using MotionFlow, Custom

On the 940C while using a single HDMI input, is there a way for MotionFlow, Custom to be Smoothness 3, Clear 1 for SDR and 3, 0 for HDR without having to manually change this back and forth?

It seems to me the "Custom" setting is not tied to the picture mode on a single HDMI input as I have tried to do the same thing. The only way I have thought to get around this is to use dual HDMI outs from an AVR and dedicate one to SDR and one to HDR.

So I have been going back and forth thinking about upgrading my 940c lately due to a very faint line that runs right down the middle of the screen. Can only see it in certain situations depending on the content.

So I noticed yesterday that in the great deals found thread for the z9d that best buy has started selling the floor models for the 75"z9d for around $2300-$2500. Stopped by the store close to my work today and they have not marked the display model down yet but are going to very soon(replacing it in the magnolia section with a 85"900f). Sales rep took My Phone number and said he would call me when they mark it down.

Anyone here have any thoughts as to how much better the z9d would be compared to the 940c? Also He warned me that the tv has been on display for two years but has never had a problem. A 5 year warranty can also be bought for peace of mind.

Ive been reading the owners thread but was hoping someone here could give me some advice. Seems like a hell of a deal for the floor model but a little worried that there wont be much of a performance gain considering the 940c already has excellent picture quality. Also kind of hate buying it at the end of its life cycle as im sure as soon as the z9f comes out I will wish I had bought it instead (probably will be 4 or 5 times the price and wouldn't be anywhere near what I would want to spend).

940C Action Menu

Hello,

Does anyone know if it's possible to customize the menu that comes up when you press the Action button on the remote? I need to switch scenes between CinemaPro and Game often.

I see that the Sports scene is in this menu, but I have not found a way to switch scenes quickly without having to go to Picture Adjustment, then click on the scene and scroll all the way toward the end (where the Game scene) is.

Thanks.

The 940E is an awesome TV. For me it was a great upgrade and picture and Dolby Vision capability. New ones are not much more than the used Z9D mentioned.

Anyone else having an issue turning thier TV on after the latest update? When I first did the reset everything was fine, but since coming back from vacation and 2 weeks of no use my set has been acting weird when I first attempt to turn on the TV nothing happens I have to keep pressing the power button for about a minute or two then it'll finally power on but it'll reboot before powering on. I've been having to do this for the last 5 days

Have not had that problem. Maybe try another factory reset if it’s no too much trouble.

Does the HDR look better than the 940C? Just added an Oppo 203 and had to use Adv Contrast Enhancement to get UHD discs to look good. Didn't have to do use ACE with Apple TV 4K HDR content, so I am not sure why the UHD discs required ACE to look good. Blu Rays and DVDs look great with the Oppo, but the UHD discs look dull (using recommended settings from the forum.

I am guessing because the 940C is old that maybe HDR will look better with a 940E or z9d.

Any suggestions?

PS- still looking for the Limited/ Full dynamic range option in the settings since the last update

Yes. The HDR looks great on the 940E. It reportedly has twice as many dimmable zones (256!) as the 940C. It should also be able to achieve a higher peak brightness for better HDR effect.

From what I've read, it may have more zones, but it has lower peak brightness (it doesn't hit 1000, the 940C is almost 1100).

As far as an upgrade (if you own a 940C), the Z9D would be worth it, but I would not change to a 940E for the difference...obviously that plus $4.00 will buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

I am not sure why either. Everything except the UHD discs looks great. I can't imagine it is something wrong with the Oppo since everything else looks good.

Sony says the elusive HDMI Video Range option is located under Picture Adjustments > Advanced Settings and located between the Motion and Reset tab. I sure don't see the Video Options tab between the Motion and Reset tabs.

Motion is set to Custom, Smoothness 3/ Clearness Min
Cinemotion Off

Sony says the elusive HDMI Video Range option is located under Picture Adjustments > Advanced Settings and located between the Motion and Reset tab. I sure don't see the Video Options tab between the Motion and Reset tabs.

Was just curious if you had it set to off or had clearness on, but that’s not the case.

Are you talking about setting the HDMI to standard or enhanced? You have to go to the settings menu through the Home button and select external inputs and you can change from there.

No the HDMI range option that used to be in the settings menus under Picture and Screen. It allowed to chose Limited or Full for the HDMI input.

There really should be no reason to change this setting from the Auto setting unless the TV is mis-detecting the range of the input signal.

For 8 bit signals
Limited signals are 16 - 235
Full are 0 - 255

The problem is that this can change. It used to be Graphics were always RGB with range of 0-255 and Video was YCbCr with limited with range of 16-235.

But now there are Video signals with 0-255 and they can be RGB.

So as you can imagine as the colorspace changes there are no guarantees you can get this right. I have never had an issue with the TV mis-detecting the range.

But if you want to use it:

HOME > Settings > Picture & Display > Picture adjustments > Advanced settings > Video options > HDMI video range > ...
