Which would be typical of a board issue. Since it is mostly C users and it’s just now popping up, it’s most likely a malfunctioning board. Almost all TV’s are susceptible to this as they age. I only know about replacing boards because I still have my Samsung UN55C8000 (Samsung’s best 3d TV in 2011, lol). I use it in my office as a third screen and sometimes just to watch ESPN while I work. It started to have issues turning on, so I did some research, had the board repaired, I reinstalled it and now it works just fine. Just like the C, my particularly C8000 model was prone to have this issue. Given the C’s are 5 years old now, I’m surprised more issues haven’t cropped up. Ultimately, this is one of the best TV’s I’ve ever had, from a quality and picture standpoint. I would just pop in a new board rather than replace it.

I do have same opinion. 940C and Z9D are best ever 4k TV`s !

Wireless sub

I’m pretty sure the complimentary Sony wireless sub for the 940 is discontinued, but in order to save electricity these days by not running the home theater, I figured I would ask you guys if there’s a recommended/ compatible wireless sub that’s still available for the 940.

Now that the Wireless Sub by Sony has been discontinued you can still use any other sub with rca inputs. Just need a mini jack to rca cable and hookup from headphone jack on tv to subwoofer. That will give you a wired subwoofer.

Press the action menu on your Sony remote and see if the picture mode is in HDR.

What picture setting does it lost? If it’s not the HDR picture setting, them the show is in 4k, but not HDR.

I contacted Sony US and opened up a support ticket asking when the US version would be released. I encourage everyone else to do the same. There's no reason why this update can't be rolled out in the US asap, and they need to know we want it. I have yet to receive a reasonable response from Sony.

Anyone tried using the new Sonos Arc with the 75X940C? I'm considering it, but not sure what the limitations are going to be because of the outdated HDMI spec on the 940C?

Amazing, and I say that not because it's Android 8.0 but because Sony is supporting a products that is 5 years old. I've been purchasing Sony products for about 25+ years now and they almost never do software support after a year, unless it's a bug. Sony is like the automotive industry, they prefer you to buy the new **** than to support the old ****.

Updated my x940C and x930C. I was about to buy a Nvidia box for both, now I can save $300. I have a Nvidia box on my 2010 hx909 and 2014 x900B. Before Android TV, Sony smart TV software was bull****.

I believe they only continue to support it because of the original high msrp. I doubt they would if it wasn’t a flagship unit.

Sony is supporting all 2015 Sony Android TVs with the Oreo update. It you take a look at the supported TVs this update supports you will find many 2015 "C" models plus many "D" models that were not previously updated.

Performance wise, about the same, maybe better, too early to tell. I wouldn't expect anything with PQ. My value in the update is all 5 TVs UI, 6 if I include the Minivan/outdoor projector with Mi Box, are the same. Moving back and forth between Android 7.0 and Android 8.0 makes you feel like 7.0 was just clutter. I do like the highly customization of the launch pad of Android 8.0.

It may be another week before it's in the UK, it was about a week for the US after Asia.

Aside for the permissions for Google Assistant and how the Home Screen options have changed in the settings menu I haven't notice any changes. I assume their are a lot of under the hood changes. I have sideloaded the Comcast Xfinity Stream app and before the update the controller did not operate what was on the screen, now the controller is recognized. Since HLG is not yet used for live broadcasts via HDMI in the US I don't know if the feature has been added, but hopefully it has.

Wow I just randomly decide to check back in on this thread and saw the Oreo update news. Does the new UI operate less sluggish than the previous one?

On my TVs which has the same processor it appears much faster. You have the option of getting rid of all the "junk" and previews which I did.

Just did the update. Much faster and responsive UI than the old one. Other then shifting my main apps to the side (which I had to add back) it seems to have preserved my settings which I'm grateful for.

Installed the Android 8 update and all of the Smart TV functions are much faster for me. It is really nice being able to get rid of all the stupid ads and clutter. Took about 45min on my 940C. I was able do the update from the menu on the TV no need to download the firmware to a usb stick.
