It's working to develop 11K resolution mobile displays with 2250 pixels per inch.

How can you not go wrong with that..

IF you need to tape 16 shows at once you got a lots of problems...
Yes. That would take a lot of VCRs to tape that many shows.

CES Tech Stupidity

Every year, CES reminds me that there are engineers, designers who do amazing things on really dumb ideas. ie: knock on the refrigerator to see through the door? A water bottle camera? I'm sure there will be more.....

Well, for those of us looking to buy a 2016 UHDTV set in sizes bigger than 75" diagonal i must say i am rather disappointed so far with the news from CES 2016.

Hisense is not advertising its curved 77" set for sale in the USA and seems to be making a big deal of the 65" set that has been available at Amazon for the past month with m.s.r.p. of $3K (discounted to $2.5K) and now it appears the new Hisense m.s.r.p. has been lowered to $2.8K.

TCL also seems to be making a big deal of its 65" UHDTV model with FALD + 288 dimming zones, HDR and quantum-dot tech, but how much of an improvement is it from the very similar model from Hisense ? Did the press release mention any set bigger than 65" diagonal for sale in the USA next year ?

Sharp will be releasing UHDTV sets next year no larger than 70" diagonal.

Vizio as expected shows the R-Series available in only two sizes, 65" and that senseless "proof-of-concept" 120" set with m.s.r.p. of $130K. Unless the company quickly releases some/any info on a 2016 P-Series i can see a lot of the excitement and sales Vizio has garnered for the past two years being contested by Hisense, TCL and the incoming Chinese juggernaut.

Samsung will have the new top-of-the-line 9800 line in sizes up to 77" and 88" (curved screen ?) and considering the company is still listing last year's 77" model with m.s.r.p. of "only" $10K i don't see how this new model would cost any less; Comparing that to the Sony XBR75940C currently being sold for $6k i would venture to say that Samsung will be losing a lot of customers to Sony.

Panasonic seems to be hedging all bets before giving up on the North American market by introducing a top-of-the-line OLED set (screen sourced from the only OLED screen manufacturer in the world, namely LG) and an entire new line of inexpensive LCD UHDTV sets (no FALD, no HDR, no WCG ?)

So far, nothing yet from Sony; I just hope their marketing department has been wise enough by keeping track of online comments from prospective customers for the XBR75X940C and realize that quite a few of us do not like or want non-removable side speakers that add tremendously to its size making it much more difficult to install in limited spaces.
I am sure that with all its expertise it would be quite easy for Sony to introduce a similar model in 2016 with "beautifully looking" side speakers that could be completely removed or installed at the bottom, at the owner's discretion !

The more i read about CES 2016 and UHDTV models larger than 75" diagonal, the more convinced i am that the Sony XBR75X940C appears to be my best choice by having the best ratio of features/performance/price and, dare i say it, reputation.

I'm in the same boat as you, man. I'm looking for something 75" or bigger, but unfortunately the only TV announced so far that fits the bill is the LG 77" OLED and it's probably going to be at least $20k(if not more) so that's a no go. Hopefully Sony will announce something tonight because if not I might be sitting on the sidelines for another year and that would truly suck!

Sony has a more diversified consumer lineup they want to talk about. Though they really should keep Playstation stuff out of this show, they do like 5 or 6 gaming conventions every year.

Yeah there's really only a few titles that I'm even considering at launch but there are some catalog titles from a few studios I wouldn't mind seeing in HDR.
