Ok.. wow.. WOW.. Smurfs 2 HDR on 8500 without even going through settings.. kills the EG9600.. From a normal viewing distance the black levels are similar to the effect OLED gives but the colors and picture quality my entire family easily notice how better it is compared to our OLED.. I have the 8500 set to "dynamic" color and its instant that this set is superior..

The Sony rep I saw at Best Buy was really confident that I could place this up against the G6 (which was on display while the X930D wasn't).. When the kids go to bed later I will dig in but this set replaced my EG9600 which will now go into the master bedroom..

The truth is that these TVs all offer more than 20% more color space than REC.709 did. That is a big deal and ALL of them will look great with respect to color with HDR material.

940C. I'm not sure the D is a big upgrade. The sound is fantastic as well.

That's a great deal. See if you can negotiate. Ask them to throw in a stand, remote, or other component. That's how I got my BDI stand for $50.

If you have no issue with the speakers, get the C while you can before they are out of stock. One advantage that we already know the C has over the D series is the sound. And Cleveland Plasma has a hell of a deal on the 940C right now and that is with shipping! If you want the 940D, it's still a few weeks away, if you want the 940C, I would say you can't go wrong with either one, but we have no info on the 940D yet as far as performance goes. I have a 940D on order, the wait sucks, but I'll be happy once it gets here.

I'm waiting on Sony to give me a reason to upgrade my KDL55w900A. The Quantum Dot tech in that TV (in theory) can provide 94% of the P3 color space. Ha, only issue is, the HDMI 1.4a can't accept anything close to that! still it's an amazing TV. 2013 was a good year for Sony products.

Amazon would have cancelled imo. VE would not match as I checked during that timeframe, (slow return email-lost chance for me as I was watching here intensely) . Not their fault for a Crutchfield mistake but I know where I will keep an eagle eye out for my future 75 in DV TV. Integrity is the bees knees where I come from.

I'm going to my local Magnolia center to look at it now..
Al,
Tell me what you think of your (older now) 900b compared to the 930d (and 930c if you've had experience with). I actually have one on hold (900b) at best buy do to an extended remodel (very extended). I am deciding wether to keep it, or exchange for the 930c/930d. I actually like the speakers...but am mostly about the PQ. I played with some BD on the 900b last year-were very good. Also, would you tell me how either tv handles live tv broadcast (I have cable). It might be best to PM me on all this, thanks.

Just remember, stock on the 940C is running out, so if you want to get one, it's a good idea not to wait. Always a chance at pricing going back up also. And does Best Buy have free delivery?

Remove the HDR requirement and I believe the 900B is the best LED TV I've ever purchased.. The 4K fidelity from the 4K media player and even upscaled Blu-rays (Amazing SpiderMan 2 and Big Hero 6 in particular) are jaw dropping. The quality with those B series was really high level. When I purchased my first 2014 OLED I had buyer's remorse for a moment because the 900B quality, brightness, and black levels is really impressive.

The only reason why I purchased the X930D is to have a set at home that can play the HDR 4K discs.. I am watching Sicario now on the 930D in HDR and it looks exactly how it did on the non-HDR EG9600 OLED (with the color on 85 and the OLED light on 100% pretty much with the OLED on max settings).

I am seriously on the fence about the viability of HDR in view of these high-end TVs from the past 3 years.

I don't think so but that depends on what you're needing. Only reason I ordered the 65 930D versus getting another 950B was because I need a thinner tv to wall mount in my bedroom plus I want to see what's all the hype on HDR.

The 950B is FALD which the 930D slim backlight drive might compete with but no way beat. Having Android TV isn't enough since that can be added but nice to have.

I think the 950B will still have better PQ. Deeper blacks is important. HDR is in it's infancy but some might feel that's a priority.
