oh no your fine I didn't really take your comment offensive no worries man. Also yeah I know the magnolia design center called me and asked me about it and how it is because a friend of mine there told me they don't even have one for a sample set up for people lol. My guess is vizio and magnolia want to ship out the pre-orders first before they can get out a sample for people. otherwise that 1 person could be waiting for there tv to ship still which makes sense.

Because it does say so. Bottom left dropdown where it says "output color format." It's showing 420.

oh I see it thanks . I still haven't fiddled with the TV's setting yet though like high velocity mode or color settings on it so I will check back with you on that to see if there were any changes toward the color format.

Have you checked to see if Amazon hdr comes through on the vizio?

As of now the R65 is strictly a special order item, like Sean stated Vizio ships your order to a BB Magnolia or to an installer that Vizio contracted. So no, you just can't go to a retailer and buy one. Not now anyway.

Open HDR should not play until Vizio releases an update (following customer requests), so I would not expect Amazon HDR to be available.

The more important question is whether VUDU Dolby Vision HDR is playable.

With my Open HDR-enabled 65EF9500, I can play Amazon HDR (Open HDR) but cannot even find the VUDU HDR movies (which are encoded in Dolby Vision HDR)...

I already feel the answer is no, but might as well ask an OWNER since we now have one right?

And he commented in the other thread that he's watched vudu hdr with 3 movies now on his vizio reference series. The feedback was extremely positive.

Since Vizio has promoted VUDU DV HDR on the R65 why do you think it wouldn't be playable?

Well anyway, I asked Sean how VUDU DV HDR movies looked on his R65 in the anticipation thread and his response was as positive as it gets.

Yes, I've seen on the speculation thread that he has played DV HDR content on VUDU - since this is the first DV-enabled TV to come out, I originally asked the question here because I was not even sure that the DV-HDR movies were available/accessible yet .

I don't know whether you own a calibration meter or not, but investing $200 in one after purchasing a $6000 TV is an investment you are sure to be happy about if not .

I also see you owned a 65EF9500 OLED, so in addition to the comparison I have seen you state regarding black levels (equivalent, right?) and motion (better on the R65, right?), I'd be interested in comparisons on off-angle viewing and especially near-black uniformity.

The AVSHD709 disk contains 'near-black' field patterns (0%-4%) and the 2% and 3% patterns were especially useful for both exposing Vignetting and near-black nonuniformity/streaking/DSE.

Even without having a meter, using your eyeballs to set brightness using the black pluge patterns and snapping some quick pics of the near-black 2% and 3% fields in a dark room would be appreciated.

I've also been considering ditching my 55EF9500 for the R65 and your observations regarding near-black uniformity and shadow detail on the R65 would be highly appreciated...

Its also being advertised that mad max hdr through vudu is free when you purchase the vizio r, if he could confirm that then vizio is 2 for 2 on promises

All TV get calibrated at the factory but its a 45 second automated process that is not great. These R-series are made to order. I would not be surprised if the calibrated mode is truly a complete calibration at the factory. I'm curious what the factory calibration dE is.

I can do that too, but that's only 4:2:0, not 4:4:4. Mine passes that test even at 4:2:2 12bpc, just not 10/12bpc 4:4:4. For me to get [email protected] 4:4:4 8bpc, I have to set it from limited to full from the HDMI port settings. for some reason, anything other than RGB is somewhat unstable.

do you see the HDR tag when viewing the info screen?

do u know how to check for the HDR tag?

and yes, that looks like verticle banding. alot of tvs have that, i have very light verticle banding on my JS9500 but i can only see it on certain loading screens.

yes when you click on the video it will give you 4 options and it will look like this
[HDR] [UHD] [HD] and [SD] and you can select either one you want. Also is that a manufacturer default? I mean should I call it in and say something? or is it something to not really worry about on the banding thing?

depends how serious the banding is. some people exchange and some dont.

does it give you that same option for the vudu movies too?

hey, here is an HDR home made video. this is one of the best ive ever seen. try downloading this and putting it on a USB and playing it. let me know what you think if it does play perfectly. it should look "awesome" if the HDR10 is read properly.

That video was made by fellow AVS member Tom Roper. He used a Sony F55 camera (same camera used on the show blacklist) and then he graded it using the HDR10 standard.

If your tv is playing this, that means you've got full HDR10 capability! I love the way the water looks but also the rocks, and rock pile near the end looks crazy too.

If you havent checked out the HDR thread, here ya go. theres a few more videos you can download, but Toms is really the best one as far as quality.

So i think HDR10 has been confirmed on the Vizio R.

GOOD THING I ASKED :P (fafrd)

The only question now is... will it play back HDR10 from an HDMI source. If the HDMI ports are not full 2.0, that means it wont have 2.0a and will only be able to do HDR10 from a streaming/download site, just like the OLED EG9600

Definitely.

Perhaps we've also reverse-engineered at least one of the major causes for the final 1-2 month delay in the release of the Reference Series .

This seems to be a reversal of the 'Dolby Vision-only' position that Vizio presented in October. I would guess that HDMI 2.0a would have been easy to include at the same time and they decided to take the issue of unhappy customers with new UHD Bluray players off of the table, but I suppose we'll just need to wait and see...

I can answer that and its a YES! accordng to my handy dandy booklet manual and I have a pic to show you it says it will support new Blu-ray players and more
