Is this something you have installed yourself? My 8500 shows 5.30.30 as current when I check for updates.

I paid $1799 not counting tax two years ago.
How about a response???

This latest update doesn't happen to fix the Dolby Vision issue where this TV is using an old version of it and it's not compatible with other devices using a new version of DV does it?

I have manually installed the update (which curiously never appeared as an auto-update on the TV), but I have not watched a DV-enabled show as yet to look for any improvement. HDR content looks fine, however.

Read a few of the more recent pages; aside from DV, are there any other commonish issues with this set (saw something about 'yellowing' spots on the panel)?

I found a used 65" locally and would love to put my 55" C6 in my bedroom and get a larger TV for the living room (and still have 3D!), just want to see if there is anything I should look out for.

Thanks!

Looks like an update came down the pipe...at least I'm getting prompted to install it. Anyone tried it or know what it's supposed to do?

I installed 05.30.60 yesterday after seeing the on-screen notification. It included a software update for the Magic Remote, not sure what other changes were included.

Any idea of what it does, or have link to the release notes? Same for the Magic Remote update?

About the only difference I can see is that it seems, without changing any settings, to have better black levels and noticeably less local dimming artifacts when white titles are in the center of a black screen. Looks better for bright scenes, but dark scenes seem a little darker with a little bit of lost detail, although that may be my imagination. Tested so far with HDMI cablebox input and internal Netflix & APPs, HDR10 and DolbyVision.

If you go to LG site and look next to the software download, there is a link to the right that says "reference"

If you click on it, it will expand to show what each software update has.

Can anyone confirm what the latest update does? It seemed like a pretty big update. It even said it was updating the magic remote. I was really hoping this would fix Dolby Vision on this set. It's flat-out broken imo and unusable as I explained previously when I was testing out Dolby Vision. I haven't actually tested Dolby Vision since the update.

Their site only lists:

[05.30.60]
1. Security Update

But there's got to be more than that because it doesn't even mention the magic remote update (whatever that was for). Theire update notes are garbage, just like Samsung.

After I received the update for both the tv and magic remote I put in a DV disc just to see if the DV issue had been fixed. Sadly, I report the scene to scene dimming and brightening are still present.

I've called the service center and ask them to make a visit tomorrow.
This is due to you have something obstructing the sensors on the under-side of the TV, around the base. This problem happened to me last week. I changed the batteries, changed WiFi networks of both the TV and nearby devices, none of it worked...until I cleaned up around the TV, removing any game consoles, controllers, and cables sitting around the base of the TV.

We know software version 05.30.60 did include a software update for the Magic Remote. One function that appears to have changed is there is no longer an on-screen notification for low battery. My remote stopped working yesterday. I checked the voltages, and each AA battery was at 1.25V (too low). I changed the batteries, and it works fine now. Not sure if this is a bug in 05.30.60 or an intentional change.

Anyone know how to kickstart a magic remote update in the event that the TV firmware was updated while the remote had no batteries in it?

Ok thanks. I have seen the notification before the update, but is apparently unrelated to the update. I am using rechargeable NiMH batteries which have lower peak voltage and probably different internal resistance than AA alkaline batteries which might cause an incorrect (higher) voltage to be reported by the remote.

For the LG 55UH8500 ... which is the last firmware before HDR Game Mode was ruined by a darker picture?

No such announcement yet, but I wouldn't buy a TV expecting it to happen. Currently there will be no Amazon Fire app for Disney+, so it sounds like the company is working some sort of licensing deal with hardware providers.

Is anyone else having issues with Dolby Vision content in iTunes all of a sudden? This just started for me. The colors go all wonky for certain scenes of some content. This picture is from the Apple TV+ trailer of For All Mankind.

It does it at the exact same parts of the content every time. It’s not just these trailers, but these are the easiest ones to test.

If I force the Apple TV to play the same content in 4k HDR, everything looks great. Dolby Vision content also looks fine elsewhere like Netflix. iTunes was never a problem until recently so I can’t figure out what’s causing this.

Interesting! Is this anything with our TV, or has Apple changed something? It doesn't seem to be happening to people with other TVs.
