Difficult to say - the package numbering is identical apart from the EUB and NAB tags for the update in each territory but the changelog on the US support site is woefully ill-described.

To test the HLG playback, I loaded the HLG sample from here onto a USB and whilst it played via the built in "Video" app - it certainly didn't engage HDR. The file from its metadata certainly seems to have 10-bit/BT.2020 colour space and HLG transfer characteristics according to the output of a mediainfo scan.

I don't have any device that can feed HLG via HDMI (my Denon AVR doesn't support the passthrough of any other HDR standards except HDR10 until an update scheduled for later this year or the beginning of next, and my Samsung UBD-K8500 UHD player doesn't support it I don't believe, although I didn't have time to test this).

It's quite strange to see Sony ahead of the curve by adding bleeding-edge features so fast when there is v. limited existing adoption - I wonder what devices they used to test this functionality if indeed it is really included?

As for the other major draw of this update for me: the supposed resolution of stuttering of playback in the Amazon app when vol. controls/Action menu are engaged, it has certainly improved and stuttering is less severe than before when adjusting volume for instance, but has definitely not been entirely eliminated for me. I'll do more testing on this as I watch more content...

Installed the new 885 update last night (It's a biggie at 1.4 gb), factory reset TV via 'Settings', reset all my previous settings - no problems.
Am now very happy bunny as this seems to have resolved ALL my issues. TV is now performing very nicely with all functions that were problematic before now acting as expected and even appearing to be much more responsive (Quicker). Haven't tried to to test the HLG yet as not interested at the minute.
It also appears to have made a big improvement on the way it handles my Sonos Soundbar. I know it was mentioned in the release notes but didn't know what to expect. Not getting any drop outs or small hiccups that i got before so a definite win win for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All we need now is for a further release adding Dolby Vision?
Thanks Sony

No I did not do a factory reset.

I used my TV all last night and it seemed to be just fine, no apparent issues.

None of my picture setting were erased or changed.

And that's how I would describe it. To me, it seemed to be displaying the WCG, (and along with that, probably 10-bit), and due to a higher frame rate, looked great. It didn't look like HDR-10 HDR to me, however.

Which is just the thing. I don't know what HLG HDR looks like.

On a Samsung Q9, HLG appears very colorful but darker overall than HDR10.

I skipped the previous update, the one that seemed to give people trouble; if I download the most recent one, will it include the skipped?

I think it depends on the video. I compared the HDR10 version vs the HLG version of the LG Jazz video on my 2016 Samsung, and it didn't look that different.

There are some nice looking HLG videos here as well: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...9Ih8qQwMgaiOFQ

So PQ not as good as HDR-10, but improved over SDR. Correct?

Yup, that's what I would describe it, but I don't want to put too much weight into my qualitative observations. Overall, it didn't seem as bright as HDR10, and some scenes seemed to be crushing detail a bit in either bright or dark areas.

I will say that it definitely looked brighter and more HDR than what the clip looks like on YouTube on my WCG MacBook Pro.

It should, updates are typically sequential, new ones building off previous ones. Unless it downloads all of the updates as a combined package, don't know that Sony does this though. But it really shouldn't be an issue for you since the most recent one seems to address issues the previous one might have caused.

OK, thanks Jonas...guess I'll take the plunge and keep fingers crossed....shouldn't have to do that with an update, though; even Windows 10 doesn't give me pause any more.....

Question about new update for 930D

I currently am running 3.865 and am experiencing lots of full tv crashes and reboots. I saw someone say 885 was out. How can I get this. Is it a slow rollout or should I be able to download it now?

Thanks!

I also haven't received the 885 update via OTA yet. I guess I'll look out for it during the long weekend and maybe download it. I'd prefer OTA like the last time.

Well, after getting the opportunity to pick up the 65X930E at a steal, and flip my 930d to a buddy, in two weeks I’ll be saying goodbye to the old (well 10 months old) girl.
I loved the 930d 90% of the time, but look forward to the improvements 2017 has realized.

I'd do the same thing if I had anybody to flip it to! Hopefully you'll like the 930E 100% of time. Even though you're "leaving the family", stop back once and tell us all we need to upgrade....

Wonderful; Agree in total. Via USB, HLG looked exactly as you described. Nice, certainly better than sdr but below HDR-10 PQ. So in the end do we have HLG support on our US 930ds? Me think we do.

Does it trigger HDR video mode? If not, then it's probably not actually working. At best you're getting 10bit SDR

I hadn't checked for the OTA update since last posting, but today the 885 update was available. Mostly smooth update and things working fine (as they mostly were for me before this update). Glad to see the more synchronized volume bar fix.

OTA finally arrived - so did a factory reset and re-applied morphinapg's settings and we'll see how things go. Looking good so far - although I have a nasty secret.. I quite like keeping XDR on 'low' ;-)

When HDR content is loaded, I keep all the same settings as above, except I change Brightness and Contrast to Max. Local Dimming and XDR will be locked to Medium & High in HDR mode as well.

I've found that Brightness at 13 in SDR mode allows 100nit content to be displayed at the same levels as they do with Brightness at Max in HDR mode. That way, content above 100nits is a proper extension above what you're used to seeing in SDR. I think a big part of what people get wrong about the HDR experience has to do with their SDR calibration. If the SDR settings are too bright, then HDR will actually be a bit darker in many places, which makes the image look duller, and not like the natural expansion it's supposed to be.

Did the update today and Netflix stopped functioning. Works fine with my Apple TV (1080p) but I am paying Netflix extra for 4K and am not happy. I thought I added this but I didn't. I got a prompt to reconnect my network on the TV. I did that and all is well. However, I really don't understand that HBO NOW and other apps worked but not Netflix until I re-did my wifi connection.

Fixed it. Got prompted to re-do my Network connection. Why, I don't know since HBO NOW worked on the 930D last night after update. Re-doing network connection and exiting out of Netflix a few times and things are back to normal. It's very SONY to add these extra steps which make no sense since HBO NOW worked on both the 930D and Apple TV last night. The Netflix app like other Android apps are a bit more clunky. Can't wait for Apple TV to upgrade to 4K since things run a lot better and smoother on the Apple device. I've only had 2 or 3 restarts on the 930D since I've received it early May and I'm hoping the update fixed that. Love the TV overall. Picture is great, design beautiful and although the TV's 3D has a little more crosstalk than my 2011 KDL-55HX729, its not bad. Happy guy overall. The 930D price was excellent too.
