I think I know the answer already, but I might as well ask.
Tonight our W800C got fairly dim... like 'calibrated' dim, except it is kept at the maximum backlight setting (all dynamic lighting stuff is off (light sensor, contrast enhancer, etc.)).

It's on all inputs and I tried a reboot. Are there any suggestions before 'factory reset' and 'warranty service'?

Yikes. Same thing is happening to me. I toggled the power with the brightness to min and that was able to alleviate it. Wonder if I'll have to do this every time now....

Were you able to find a solution? This on top of the calibration settings not immediately applying is kind of irritating.

Wait, you fixed it how? It sounds like you set the brightness to minimum, powered down (rebooted?), and then set the brightness back where you normally have it? I never tried that. (Edit: Tried it, works, but is only a temp. fix).

There was also an issue with the TV occasionally not turning on right away without hitting the power multiple times (remote or physical button).
I tried a factory reset and thought I saw the bug again shortly afterwards, but not for a couple days now. My fingers are crossed. (Edit: Didn't work)

Edit 3: Since the last firmware update, which I did along with a factory reset, I have not seen the light sensor issue or power up issue.
Instead I've ONLY seen the color temperature too cold nearly every time the TV is turned on after any period of time.
Although there are some threads about this issue (https://community.sony.com/t5/4K-Ult...els/m-p/629049), it sounds like it isn't on every single TV and Sony Support claims they've had no reports of that problem.

They've offered to do an exchange. I'm luke warm about that idea, but I don't have a better one.
It sounds like some of these just seem to have more issues than others.

An update: Our original TV was made April 2016. The factory refurb was October 2015.
AND IT STILL HAS THE SAME COLOR TEMPERATURE ISSUE!

The only answer is that this bug is widespread and people just don't see the colors as wrong. Bah. Will be giving Sony hell come Tuesday.

I think the latest firmware (May 2017) resolves a power ON/Off issue that I was having. The power would turn off by itself and then to get the TV to turn back on I had to unplug and plugin again. Since the firmware upgrade the ON/Off has been working perfectly.

Is there anyone who can share some settings for the SONY BRAVIA KDL55W800C?
I've trying to get the righting picture settings for watching movies, and playing video games. My room is bright during the day. I have a lamp with a 3000k bulb on at night, so the room is much dimmer. I keep switching back and forth between settings.

There are some suggested settings in earlier posts on this thread

Well so much for that theory. Today the issue returned. In order to get the TV to turn on I had to unplug it and plug it back in first.

Yeah, the Color Temperature issue isn't fixed either.
Of course Sony has no idea these issues exist and won't pass them on to their upper techs.

See, the problem is Sony believes ALL TVs, regardless of model, react the same way. So their tech support keep one 'representative' TV for testing all consumer issues.

If an issue is with the W800C and they can't reproduce it on their X810C (which is what I think they were using the one time I called), they assume you have a bad television.

I have a suspicion Sony will eventually get hit with a class-action lawsuit over the way they are handling their android televisions. There are a lot of people across different models and years that are getting pretty fed up with the lack of bug fixes.

Got another firmware update last Friday, still hasn't resolved the black level issue I've had since the very first update which made the screen way too bright. Instead of being around 48-50, I have to lower it all the way down to 37 before the 2 pluge bars on the left disappear on the calibration disc... other than that it's fine

Hi guys,

Using a 2011 LG LCD tv, I've done a lot of research and planning to buy 50 or 55 Sony W800C.
Read almost all posts in this thread, but unable to confirm 100% about a question I have.

Can I play x265 videos on Sony W800C ? Which player(s) should I use?
I'm worrying about this since the x265 seems to be getting popular with less file size for the equivalent data, and I seriously miss this on my current setup.

Thanks in advance!

I tested an x265 720p file on the W800C and it failed to play. I don't know if it was just the file I tested or if it's not supported.
I expected it to work considering that the media player is the identical version as higher model TVs that support x265.

You might want to test a third-party app like Kodi for playback, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

So, yesterday I noticed that my W800C was spontaneously turning itself on after I had been watching it for a while and then turned it off. After about a minute or two, it would turn itself back on. So, I decided to reboot it. Before I did I went into the About menu to check for software updates. There were none. So, I chose Restart. It then turned itself off and I was expecting it to come back shortly thereafter with the usual booting-up screen except that it never came back. Now I can't get it to power on at all. It seems totally dead. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps listed on the Sony website, to no avail. The set is 18 months old. That seems a bit soon to die. The closest Sony authorized repair center is more than 50 miles away, so that's not really a practical option. Ideas?

Did you try unplugging it for a long period?

Did you buy any sort of extended warranty like SquareTrade or use a credit card that automatically adds time to you warranty?

Yes I left it unplugged for more than 8 hours overnight. No, sadly, the credit card I bought it with doesn't have that benefit.

So you've tried the power button on the remote and the back of the TV and nothing at all happens? No lights or anything?

That's not good in general, but the W800C uses an external power brick. Make sure all connections in and out of it and to the back of the TV are tight. Barring that you might want to see if you have a way to test the transformer. It would be the cheapest easiest fix.

Yes, exactly. I'll try replacing the power brick next, although the TV was powered on fine and died when I selected restasrt in the UI. It seems sort of unlikely that the power brick would have failed at that exact moment. Still, compared to the price of a new set, its a minimal risk.

So I got a new power brick for this TV today. No joy. It is still dead. Look like I'll need to replace it.

Sorry to hear that. I suppose you could try calling Sony's support, but I can't imagine it would be reasonably priced to get it fixed.
You can see if you have a local electronics shop that is Sony certified.

Manually updated the W800C earlier today with the new Nougat OS firmware. Flawless and painless.

Additionally, I'm cautiously optimistic. I have not seen the color change issue since the update.

Edit: Three days later and still no color issue noticed. In fact turning on the TV I see the input text is bright and bluish occasionally, then the picture refreshes back to the correct profile.

This is how our X850C's act and they never had the issue.

My head has exploded. Sony may have fixed a 2+ year old problem.

Anyway to force install a firmware update on a Bravia?

So I recently changed Tcon boards for my 43W800C Bravia. I can hear sound coming from the TV but the display shows different patterns. I read that I need to install the firmware update so that it will update the new Tcon board. Unfortunately the TV firmware is the latest one and would not install the same update nor any of the old versions. I know the only way for it to work is to get the TV to bootloader mode (alternating green/amber blinking LED light) and that would force the installation of the firmware update. Anyone knows how to get into this? I remember once I was able to get into that mode but I don't remember what I did.
