Streamcast and Kodi

Does anyone know how the Streamcast will work if you want to stream Kodi from an Android Box for example?

What is the risk of doing an hour drive from Montreal to Plattsburgh and importing a P65 for using it in Canada?
Why wait for an official Canadian release?

They won't honor the warranty if you buy across the border. That is the biggest risk.

As long as it's coming, that's the main thing. Gives me a little time to get the finances, and other real life issues taken care of first.

Given the numerous reported issues, I think that is a Bad Idea, since as mentioned, there is no warranty coverage for US models sold in Canada. Just wait until Costco.ca or BestBuy.ca gets it. That's what I'm doing (albeit likely for the M-Series).

So you'll have to wait a few months. No big deal, unless you are currently completely TV-less or something.

In my case it's moot anyway, since the TV I want won't even fit in my cars.

Waiting is no big deal, but I am TV-less for the most part right now. So what I did was order a 43"D Series which will become the backup display until the P Series arrives.

While @Matt McRae explained the reasons to me the decision to limit and restrict the P series to BestBuy only (and vizio webtsite) is still a major head scratcher to me..... You don't see Sony and Samsung or LG limiting their outlets like that.

With the R series I can definitely understand that rationale...... but with the P? Come on Vizio..... common sense here?

and on the topic of that I wish they had a 60inch size available on the P just for covering all bases. There are some people where size is a limiting factor because they can't physically fit in a 65 but then 55 might to to small where as a 60 is a good compromise

and no having a 60 in the M doesn't alleviate this especially if you want all the features the P has.

With all these gripes though, I am happy with Vizio this year for what they have achieved and wish a company like that nothing but lots of future success. I'll definitely spread the word around to people I know looking to buy TVs to give the vizio serious consideration.

It's probably more of a soft release so we can beta test. =)

I'm pretty sure it was explained that Sharp couldn't produce and adequate yield... or I just made that up. lol

Maybe i could use a family florida address to register it.
I guess that if somthing happen, I would need to ship it or return it to plattsburgs bestbuy?

Anyway, I live 6 hour from montreal's bestbuy, its not a big deal to drive an hour more.

I just checked out the new p series at best buy. I was ready to buy one from reading all of the reviews. I must say I was extremely disappointed! Vizio needs to learn how to make a demo. The TV was dimmer than all of the other TVs on display. The colors looked like your standard $1000 samsung TV and were nothing special. The sony right next to it was blowing it out of the water with brightness and color. It wasn't even close. Yet that same sony has worse reviews. What gives?

There are just too many variables when doing in store comparisons unless you have control over each set. Who knows what was done to either to make it look the way they were. This doesn't even factor in that Sony and Samsung often use "in house" loops. Vizio IS making the rounds to different best buys, but they are not really going after the vivid look. They want the TV to be more natural and thus it will look different than the vivid sear your eyes out settings of competitors.

I just saw the new Samsung KS9500 & the KS8000, and they look super vivid, it's like they have it pumped up to max, even my wife commented, on how vivid it looked.

That's probably because they are set on Vivid with everything maxed out. This is not how people usually watch TV (well here at the forums at least).

I guess that they are trying to save some money. otherwise they maybe have to increase the price.

If you watch movies in a dark environment then good luck with those displays.

I had the same issue. I have an edge lit Samsung right now, and I really want to get back onto FALD. The picture looked good, but it didn't wow me as much as I was expecting. I mean, the Dolby Vision Lego Movie section was impressive. But I was hoping for more demos that promoted the sorts of inky blacks/lack of blooming I'd get closer to with FALD and there really wasn't much.

Didn't help that an LG OLED set was right next to it and there demo is full of bright things on big dark black backgrounds with no blooming.

Save money? Exclusives happen all the time we saw the same thing with the P65 in 2014....The exclusive window is temporary, and I have a feeling that Vizio made an "executive" decision based on sales and incentives that BB offered for this window. When you think about it, this makes sense as it limits "problem points" and allows Vizio to more closely monitor for issues. After this window is up it will be available more widely. So people just need to be patient.

Store Demo booth is not the best way to judge or compare any display.

I mean that It could be that the selling price is close to what it cost to build. then warranty ,return ,exchanges and what would cost to them to place that tv in the stores.

If I compare to other displays that have the same spec or less from other brands and are heavily advertised but they cost twice the price.

Selling price is usually the same regardless of retailer. Costco and such may offer 1-200 off, but that's about it.

I think people are trying to read too much into the exclusivity deal and are frustrated that they can't get it at their retailer of choice. Sometimes it's better to wait and sit back to let the major initial bugs get ironed out

My local BB had the news playing on one of their OLEDs while it was sitting next to another OLED running the LG demo material. Absolutely huge difference watching regular cable content on the OLED and drove home the advantages of the "tuned" demo.

Hoping Vizio gets their own tuned demos going soon.... hate for them to lose sales over something so trivial.

Dumb question....I know the TV doesn't come with a tuner. If I have cable and plug the cablebox into the TV via HDMI, then having no tuner doesn't matter to me or affect me, correct?

Correct. If the way you watch TV is via a cable box or external device like a Tivo, you will be unaffected by the lack of a tuner in this display.
