Vizio sent out an email to people that asked them for email information updates.

They say in the email if you go online to Visio.com and register your P series with them for warranty they will send you a free copy of Star Trek.

I can't seem to get the FALD to turn sections of the screen off that are actually black when using correct settings. My setup is as follows:

HTPC running Windows 10, GTX 950 (latest drivers), connected via HDMI (high speed cable, doesn't matter) to HDMI1. In the NVidia control panel I have the color format set to RGB full (0-255).

With that in mind, when I'm on both Calibrated or Calibrated Dark, if I set the TV's colorspace to RGB (instead of Auto or YCbCr, which seem to be the same thing) and any gamma (1.8 - 2.4), the backlight still lights up if the screen is completely pure black. I can open Paint, make a pure black image, make Paint full screen (F11) and the FALD still feels it has to light every part of the screen.

Here's where it gets weird. If I change the colorspace from RGB to YCbCr on the tablet, pure blacks actually do make the right backlight zones turn off, but it appears there's some massive black crush going on (regardless of color format in the GPU control panel). With the gamma set to 1.8 it's a better but that introduces other problems.

I have tried another system going to HDMI2 with similar results.
I tried the Xbox One S with it set to "PC RGB" and the picture mode on the tablet set to RGB, same result when watching a movie or being in the menus (some seem to have pure black backgrounds).

This leads me to believe that either Calibrated or Calibrated Dark aren't set up correctly and/or Color space in the picture settings is broken when set to Auto.

The only thing that seems to work is bumping the brightness down to 32/33/34 in both picture modes but I feel like that makes the whole panel too dark in both dark and light environments. I looked through several pages of the calibration thread and used some of the provided settings but those didn't help at all - they had brightness at 50 anyway so that shouldn't be changed.

Anyone have any clue what's going on and how to fix it while still being in full-range RGB on an HTPC?

Great, thanks.

This is only for Warner Bros. releases, correct?

Fald does not turn of backlights completely it only dims them. It isn't a problem it is by design.

That's cool. I don't have a UHD bluray player. I'm going to stream, but haven't done and UHD streaming yet. My speed test in the app shows 20mb down, but it's gotta be faster. Vizio's speed test it so fast, it doesn't have time to build the speed up I think.

A friend of mine says of the digital codes he's got from movies, most are just HD and not UHD, he said not many for UHD.

If you sent me your serial number before... you are enabled. Please let me know if you want to be removed from the early release group. This is a test release and it is likely that there are bugs and maybe some adverse behavior.

The release is an early version of our Sprint 1.3. It has the following additions and fixes:

- GoogleCast v1.21 which adds support for Google Home voice commands
- 4:4:4 improvements in Computer Picture Mode
- 4:2:[email protected] rewrite to support HDR gaming
- Improvements to WIFI stability
- Improvements for P50 low IRE flicker
- CEC and ARC improvements
- SoftAP/WIFI improvements
- PQ improvements and updates to DolbyVision 3D LUTs
- Firmware update improvements (solves hang at 100% etc)
- Numerous HDMI and EDID bug fixes, improvements
- OOBE improvements
- Stuttering and frame drop fixes
- Hundreds of other bug fixes across the system

The team is still working on a couple of issues that are not yet in this release. This includes the Black Drop outs on HDMI sources and frame doubling and blurring seen by some users. In addition we will be improving the P50 flicker issue and fixing a bunch of issues with 4:2:0 and 4:4:4 as we finish up this release. Also, this release does not separate HDR and DolbyVision PQ engines (that will be in Sprint 2 which will land in Q1 2017).

Despite this, I felt many people would still like to get the hands (display) on this release and start enjoying HDR gaming... especially with the Holidays approaching. So, hammer away, report any issues you are seeing and we will take your feedback as we work towards a final Sprint 1.3 release over the next weeks.

I'll be traveling this week but checking the forums every time I can and rolling up feedback for the team. Again, if anyone wants to be removed from the early list please let me know.

Happy testing and thank you for your patience!

Matt

Anybody using Sling on the tablet remote with their P-series? It is extremely flakey(pixelated, res drop, buffering etc) on mine with my P65. Sling on my Xbox One S and Samsung SUHDTV is much more stable and solid. Is this something to take up with Vizio regarding the app........or Sling directly?

It's heeeeeere...

Swapped it with my 2014 M75, changed to calibrated dark, enabled SS, plopped in Pacific Rim UHD and it just worked. The colors on the HUDs...oh my....

One 6' and one 10' AmazonBasics HDMI cable in the chain.

I *think* I have have noticed vertical banding because I was looking for it...but then it was out of mind.

Also, my earlier question regarding the silver bezel...I forgot it was even there during PR.

So yeah...I think I won the panel lottery good enough the first time.

Now to find one of shoman's posts for his settings...

Hey all, should be getting my P50-C1 soon! Question, and sorry if this has been asked, but I've been looking at sticking a soundbar underneath the TV, what is the max width it can be? I tried Google first but it didn't come up with anything. Thank you.

Go into the PS4 settings and get to the screen that checks what your set is compatible with. Also you are on HDMI 1,2,3 or 4 as input 5 is not HDR compantable. What HDMI cable are you using? I had tons of issues getting one that would work.

It has worked for Warner and Universal so far. Fox and Sony movies are only available in HDX on Vudu so that is all you get for those codes. Idk if there are any UHD streaming options for movies by Fox and Sony.

All the UHD blurays come with the regular bluray too so you'll have that option as well. I also think the Vizio speedtest reports too low a speed because it is such a small download. I get 100Mbps on various speedtest sites but never more than 20 according to the TV which is connected by ethernet. Streaming shouldn't be a problem for you as long as Vudu's servers are working fine (they have had occasional problems on their end lately).

Yes, I got the movie from Vizio, but you have to use a VPN to show your IP address is in the US to get to register on the Vizio site and to use VuDu in Canada.

So I ordered my P65 from BB today. Another BB near my work had some different stuff playing on the P65 so I was finally able to see how the screen actually performs. It is too bad the demo videos on vizio arent quite as strong at showing off the panel strengths compared to sony/samsung. However there is about 10 seconds of cityscape that seems to show of the display really well. If you are looking to buy this tv I recommend you find this particular demo on the floor. Here is a video of it (fyi this demo was playing under full florescent light) :

Having a little buyer's remorse, so close to CES, but the Best Buy discount to $1799 got me to move. Delivering December 3rd, hope it's as good as advertised. (I know I can search, but if someone feels like reminding me off the top of their head the Xbox One S situation, I wouldn't complain. HDR gaming, HDR streaming, HDR discs?)

I just had my P65 delivered from Costco today. So far, I am really impressed. The picture is amazing, especially 4k material. I know I will be tweaking the settings to dial it in, but I am feeling really good about my purchase! It looks way better than any demo I saw at Best Buy stores. Just a couple of questions:

I went to register it online to get the free Star Trek download code but I cannot find the P65-C1 in the drop down for the model number when I try to register it.. Am I missing something?

The right side trim has a gap for a couple of inches on one side It looks like that trim is glued onto the side edge and they may not have put the one side on correctly. It is not big deal and I am sure I can get it taken care of under warranty no problem, but wondering if anybody else has had that issue and if so, if they were able to fix it themselves or if they had to have Visio come out and fix it.

I tried it some time ago, and it's like you described... it was bad. Try turning OFF Bluetooth. It might help a bit. Definitely helps when mirroring video from the Tablet when an App has no Cast feature.

I looked up Sling on the Amazon reviews. Plenty of 'poor' performance reviews.
