I remember talk of HDR being its best if based off of one of the Calibrated 'profiles'. I'm curious how HDR differs when using different profiles. Horizon looked frackin' spectacular in HDR! FFXV looked good too.

Oh, and play Horizon Zero Dawn!
One sec, when you say "turn sub-sampling (AKA Full UHD Color) ON for that input" what does that mean?

On your tablet, go into settings>Inputs. Depending on which firmware you are on, it should be called Sub-sampling or Full UHD Color.

Finally got around to putting my bias lights on - BECAUSE BLU-RAYS ARE MASTERED FOR THEM!!!! - and I sure hope that @Matt McRae hasn't forgotten about giving us the option to kill power to the USB ports when the display is off because unplugging is a nuisance. Since 2017 sets don't come with the tablet, the raison d'etre for the always-on ports to power the charging cradle is mooted.

One weird thing that happened, while adjusting the lights brightness* I brought up the Uniformity Pattern first and then switched to 30% gray. When I turned it off, the screen went black but would not return to the source signal. I tried toggling the SMPTE pattern, the grays, everything and whole the info toast would say things were turning on and off, the screen remained black. I had to soft reset it to get the picture back. Last time I looked at the uniformity patterns it didn't lock up like this.

*I'd been under the impression it should be about as bright as a 30% gray field, but I see that the "SMPTE Recommended Practice document says the level should be less than 10% of the peak white level on the viewing device. How much less? Most viewers in the professional world settle in at around 5%."

Does anybody have any idea on if there will be any sort of process for 2016 owners to get a 2017 remote? I read there's a beta running on here that includes getting a remote; how do I sign up? I love the way the screen of the TV looks, but the tablet is INFURIATING. If I could just buy a new remote and throw my tablet in the trash, I would do it in an instant.

Matt has said there will be a means to purchase the new remote, but nothing has been announced. He has said old remotes with D-pads will work - wouldn't it be awesome if the VIA apps button brought up the new SmartCast UX? - and eBay is loaded with old remotes for $10 and under. Harmony remotes will also work. I gotta think that pretty much any universal remote with Vizio support will work. These new clickers aren't proprietary to 2017 models AFAIK. Just styled that way. Remember that the old ones have keyboards on the back, too.

I honestly feel like that is really only important if your TV struggles with contrast. If you have an OLED or good FALD, then I personally find it unnecessary. If you have an edge lit, sure.

I bought an older Vizio plastic remote off Ebay new (still had the plastic film on it) for a couple bucks shipped... works great.

Or your can plead your case to Vizio support, they may take pity on you and send you the 2017 remote.

I actually use them for ambient room lighting as I don't really notice a ZOMG!!! difference in PQ between having them on or off. They provide enough of a glow to see and not be sitting in complete darkness. Otherwise I'd have a 60W lamp on next to the TV, off to the side, and that's too much sometimes. This way I get light and little screen reflection.

Bias lighting also just looks cool. I currently only have lighting behind the left & right edges, so it's kind of unique. I've got it plugged into a switched outlet along with my credenza fans. If the lights are on then I have cooling. Kind of a reminder to myself to ensure I don't forget the fans.

Personally, I think bias lighting in a colorist environment is necessary to protect the colorist eyes, especially if the colorist is dealing with the light output of HDR.

You DEFINITELY do not want to engage Clear Action if Game Low Latency is Off. It is broken atm, and introduces really bad after image effects at random, unless GLL is turned On.

ONLY use Clear Action with Game Low Latency On, and really, I suggest only using it for gaming. Do not use it for any standard media, with the exception of 60fps content like sports, racing, etc. Even then, I'd recommend you use Blur Reduction for that instead. Blur Reduction works just as well, and the additional input lag is of no consequence for non-gaming/PC use. I don't think I've ever noticed Blur Reduction introduce any artifacts, unlike Judder Reduction (only works for 24/30fps content) which will.
Are you seeing the Clear Action = ON, GLL = Off issues with 1080p @ 120 FPS or just with 60 FPS output?

Well we ever get native amazon instant video support on 2016-2018 p or m series built into the tv like 2015 m series, I find it so dumb to not be able to have amazon video app not be on the tv itself when every other brand offers this, amazon, netflix, vudu are the best options for uhd hdr content so it should be part of the tv ecosystem day one

I owned the 2016 50" p series and returned it for ks8000 to have amazon and more nits for hdr which i sold because backlight was terrible being edgelit vs vizio fald, didnt have the inky blacks vs the p so i love vizio nd currently own a 2015 m series 50" and 65" and ready to upgrade but no amazon is a deal breaker, i dont wanna have to buy a firestick, roku, or use my ps4 pro to get amazon it should be built into tv period.

Another issue i hope is fixed is game lag, 43ms for hdr is not great because as we all know hdmi input 5 is hdmi 1.4 port, 2017 models have hdmi 2.0a port 5 so hopefully this is fixed, and with matt saying 2018 will be a hardware upgrade i dont see these 2017 p selling well with a conplete hardware refresh around cornor that will most likely introduce hdmi 2.1, VRR, youtube Hdr, and most like amazon we hope, chromecast was a dumb idea in my opinion, ive been able to cast youtube to my tv since 2012, this isnt anything new and currently do it with 2015 model m series i own, vizio make this amazon tv app happen asap, ditch chromecast and give us a more intuitive tv menu like samsung tizon or lg web os and get off the chromecast junk
