I definitely have no issues with relatively minor early adoption bugs. Upscaling can be easily solved with an external box. My concern is just what is software vs what is hardware. On the pc issue, if it is purely a software issue that will definitely be fixed I am happy to go buy the screen this week. Just would like reassurance that it is, in fact, software.

Might have to buy one and test it out. It could take some work with the video card manufacturer to get the kinks worked out. Vizio is VERY engaged in assuring quality gaming on their sets. They engineer with the lowest lag in the industry for a reason. I'd feel pretty good about your "use case" working out.

I have the 636 and it does a very good job of upscalling to 4K. Better than the P in most cases.

Beautiful setup, looks out of a catalog
Thx. Took a while but they did a great job. One thing I regret is not putting the biggest Niles soundbar in. I did an inwall soundbar and a subwoofer which sound pretty good.

Wish I'd known. The 646 looked like a good deal; but it's a refurb and "all sales final" so unless I want to flush $325 down the drain I'm stuck with that for the foreseeable future.

Can anyone comment on how well the Denon X4200W upscales satellite-based content compared to the P-series? I have a X7200WA connected to a JVC front projector in my dedicated theater room but I don't use it to do any upscaling. It'd be an apples-to-oranges comparison anyway.

I'm getting the X4200W so I can use it to switch all of my sources (and for 5.1.2 Atmos/DTS:X); if it's a decent upscaler so much the better.

Not sure on scaling but I have heard that it's handling the ARC audio from the P correctly.

What audio formats can you get via ARC, from a Vizio 2016 p series, on a Denon X4200W?

So now onto the next piece of equipment to support my p75 - a new receiver. I'm looking at the new Yamaha RX-V781 but am open to suggestions from the group. Want to make sure I buy something that supports this beast properly!

Great informative thread! One question I had. Are you able to download the Kodi app to the tablet? I currently use Kodi a great deal, but with a external box. It would be nice to have one less piece of hardware in the equation. Thx.

In this post, a dealer stated that the X4200W can upscale in 4K/60Hz: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-rec...l#post36253594 but stated whether it upscales better than your TV depends on your TV upscaler.

I have a X4200W but no 4K TV now. I hope to get a Vizio P series in near future. I'll ask in the Denon 2015 X series thread to see what people think of its scaling.

You might want to email Vizio and confirm which receivers they know to be working with ARC correctly right now. We an certainly ask owners what they're experiencing here as well. My Pioneer SC-95 (awesome amp) is only reliably passing PCM from P series to AVR. DD is working intermittently and no Atmos yet. Engineering is actively engaged.

I believe there are reports of Denon's working correctly but might want to give it a few weeks to let another firmware patch clean this up.

So, as someone who has their 65' P-Series (2016) still in shipping I am trying to make heads or tails of this thread. It seems well established this TV might not have the best upscaler, which is a little disappointing. However, mine main device is the Nvidia SHIELD Android TV which supports 4k HDR through its HDMI 2.0A port. I am very curious how content from Netflix and other services will look since the Shield will be doing the scaling. I am assuming raising the sharpness setting doesn't help the soft look with the internal scaler?

Before we get questions on this the DA is the lossy version, NOT the lossless version. So ARC will not support lossless versions of DD or DTS (as always).

Streamed content is going to look very good. You don't need to worry about Netflix, VUDU, AppleTV, Roku, Shield etc...

Generally speaking, 4k images don't need a lot of sharpening. Other sources to taste. You'll have lots of options for your streamed content.

CNET posted article this morning: "HDR is TV's next big format war, and Samsung and Sony could find themselves on the losing side"

Good read.

http://www.cnet.com/news/dolby-visio...tv-format-war/

I have a feeling this may not be something I'm supposed to include in this thread, but I rationalized it since this tv is one of the few that can support both formats this year. Feel free to delete if I'm wrong.

Has HDR been enabled for the shield? I've not found any news of that update being sent out yet - https://shield.nvidia.com/android-tv/what-is-4k

So until the TV gets its update for HDR-10, you'll want to do your viewing through casting to get HDR from Netflix and Vudu

I feel obligated to respond since some of you are blaming this TV for issues that cannot be remotely it's fault.

HTPC: I have a HTPC (Mac Mini) that I use every night for watching movies with Plex. I've had ZERO issues. It's been flawless with 24FPS content with no stuttering, dropouts, etc. I've probably watched 10-15 movies all the way through.

Gaming PC/Windows:
I have an Alienware X51 that I'm using to game almost every day. The gaming is smooth with no stuttering. I probably have at least 10 hours of gaming in on several different titles. If your cursor is choppy maybe you should check your USB connection (wireless) or desktop refresh rate and make sure it's at 60-120HZ. If you plan on gaming at 120HZ you should make darn sure that your GPU can keep up. I have a GTX 960 and it's not enough.

Upscaling:
Way too much is being made about this. RTings has already tested it to be good at 1080P and above so we can disqualify any of you who are saying 4K looks soft or Blu Rays look bad. If it looks that way, it's meant to look that way. This leaves 720P & 1080i. Yes, the P series could be a bit better but again, I have a Pioneer Elite receiver with QDeo upscaling and a Darbee 5000S and cable can look great or bad depending on the station. Make sure you know what the content is supposed to look like before you say it's the P's fault.

What thomas said, streamed content is going to look great. Depending how old something is you watch, if it is in HD, it should look really good.

my GF tried to watch sex and the city (pre HD), and that looked like straight up trash.

After about 2 weeks with my P65, I've decided its still a keeper. And that is after not having watched anything in DV since last weekend.

Regarding my FIOS picture, I'm not sure if I've tweaked the settings properly, I've adjusted to the bigger screen, or I've been watching different shows but I am now very happy with how it looks. I just re-setup the old Sony 40" XBR3 in the basement and watching 1080p netflix via a Ruku3, my reactions were: 1)wow, this thing is small 2)It doesn't look as smooth as I remember 3) wow, this thing is dim and the blacks are awful

I am down to one intermittent issue that sounds like the video stuttering some are reporting with PC based sources. I've noticed it mostly via FIOS at 1080i and a few times on Netflix. But the majority of my viewing has been via FIOS so that may be why I've noticed it there the most.

It can't be the the HDMI cable since a) I'm using the same HDMI cable as with my old TV b) its happening via Netflix which is internal. Note that I am currently AVR-less so all sources are connected directly to the TV. I'll have to check some of the recorded shows on the TiVo to see if the stuttering happens there as well.

Not to jump off P series topic but that recover looks solid.

If a receiver has atmos, can we assume it has Dolby True HD? I would just make sure it covers dts-hd and as many formats as possible.

Idiot question: I went to buy DV movies from vudu but they all say UHD and not DV. Heart of the sea, Lego etc. I did this via my iPad and vudu's webpage, not the app. I'm trying to load up my library for "testing" Friday when the P75 arrives. So are those the right movies and will kick in to DV when I cast?

Vizio P75-C1
Yamaha RX-A1040
5.1- Def-Tech STS towers, mythos 10 center, mythos gem rears, super cube sub
PS3
Roku 4k

I know when I was in the various shops near me and their demo sets were playing content on 65" screens it looked like I could reach out and touch them they were so lifelike, and that's what the promise clearly was. I thought tech would be able to take a 720p source and blow it up to 4k with reasonable interpolation, or at worst, keep it close to what my old set did. This is decidedly worse.

I even tried watching House of Cards on Netflix tonight. First time I every streamed anything. If that was 4k (I read somewhere it was shot in 4K), everything was soft; like a film was over the screen, blacks not deep at all, faces soft focus. This using the calibration on post #1 of this thread.
Hi,

Please use the AVS 709 DVD disc to calibrate the TV. I did wonders for my panel. I think the brightness/contrast/color will vary from panel to panel. My second is quite different than the first one I exchanged due to DSE.

Thanks
