If you were paying the grandfathered price of 7.99, it's going up to 9.99. Either way you need to be paying the 4k tier of 11.99 if you want 4k

Important Dolby Vision/ HDR10 question.

Is it true that when both modes are triggered the backlight goes to max?

Funny is, the Vizio sees the AVR and they seem to communicate, except the sound signal.
Over the weekend I had it working until I turned everything off and on (got to enjoy the weather, right?) and no ARC since then.

I tried all combinations and wirings... All i got is hope for the next FW, otherwise I have to go TOSLINK or buy a new AVR
Well, they have an Onkyo model of some kind working in their lab.... but they also were able to replicate the issues some Pioneer guys were having with dropouts/no atmos etc..

We'll see whether what rolls out helps you. Did you contact them with specifics?

I spent the last few days testing everything I could with the TV. I didn’t notice the yellow band until everyone started talking about it. I had to really strain to find it but it is there barely visible on my TV. It would never adversely affect my viewing experience. It is a non-issue for me. Maybe it is more visible on other people’s TVs. It sure isn’t a significant issue on mine.

I use the Samsung K8500 to play youtube 4K/UHD @ 60 FPS. Even my high end gaming laptop can’t play all of those videos smoothly. The Samsung player always plays them perfectly. It really is a quality player.

I hope it can be fixed by software and it isn't a hardware limitation (as pushing 4k @ 60fps is taxing)

Yup, the Samsung was my reference to Vizio when I reported the issue. Like you said, the K8500 played them properly.

Not to pick nits since we don't know yet, but I suspect HDR10 will max the BL and contrast just like on every other set.

I suppose. DV maxes it out when you are in proprietary calibration mode so it know max brightness but backlight is totally dynamic. I can't imagine why backlight would be constant in HDR10... maybe it's just a visible setting to set the ceiling at max.

You just won't get HDR...yet. An update to the K8500 is supposed to be released this month to the Amazon app to provide HDR access. Of course that will still be limited until the P series gets HDR10 support.

On every other LED TV it does...we don't know for sure what will happen with the P series until HDR10 support is provided via update. Since HDR10 is not a dynamic control it is likely that it has to put the TV in the max contrast mode (max BL, max contrast) to give the range necessary for it's static metadata.

Which Vizio soundbar are you using? I have an SB-4051-C0, and was under the impression that neither it, nor any of the other current Vizio bars can decode DD+.
It is just DD that I get, but still 5.1. I have the same soundbar.

When I say frozen, I mean truly frozen. It's locked on an image and unresponsive to all input from tablet, android phone, Vizio physical remote, Verizon physical remote. Can't even turn it off with the physical remote, I have to unplug the TV. Last night I got a new issue. I plugged in a Roku streaming stick to see if the reboot issue would occur with that device and it played fine but then when I went to turn the TV off (using Vizio physical remote) the TV repeatedly turned itself back on. It's as if the Roku was giving it some signal to turn back on. After about 5 attempts I just unplugged the TV...

As a last resort, I will call Vizio support tonight.
I experienced this issue the 2nd day I had the TV. I was watching Netflix and attempted to switch shows. The Tv stopped responding to inputs, the tablet was also unresponsive to inputs. The TV turned off and not even the toy remote would work. And then the TV went through a few cycles of powering on/off, but I think it could have been input lag from me attempting to power it on via the tablet and toy remote. The Power button on the back of the TV didn't work either. I unplugged the power cord for a few seconds, plugged it back in, and the TV brought up the tablet pairing screen again. I touched the tablet to the corner and in a few seconds everything was back up running as normal.

[QUOTE=Ph8te;43211706]As far as I know the Shield is not DV (or HDR10 at this time) complaint. You will probably never see DV on the shield unless they make a new one that has the SOC needed. As far as HDR10, The shield is also not compatible with that. Not only would you need to wait for a 2.0(a) firmware update, but also for Android and its related apps to support it.

Just an update on the nvidia shield. As a nerd that want to know the why on such tech. I contacted nvidia. They said it should be able to pass thru the metadata via HDMI 2.0. The TV/display if it has the dv chip it should work. So i contacted Netflix, looks like the app for android TV OS is not passing the metadata via hdmi causing the display not to decode the data. I open a escalation to developers to look in to it. They will contact nvidia to work it out.

Edit: Also told netflix that we dont see the DV logo on content like Marco polo. Only shows 4K, 5.1 on the description. Only shows the DV at load. He said, that they working on adding the logo.

1. Install an amazon Fire stick on the TV- Cost $35 (or cheaper when they go on sale on amazon). This method will work 100%

2. What could work, theoretically, is launching amazon video in a chrome browser, and casting directly from the browser. Technically anything on a laptop in Chrome is capable of being cast using the Chrome cast extension. I haven't tried this yet but I will soon. If it doesn't work I'm sure someone will know what the limitation is.
