Question about 4k netflix via cast
-So my Tv is hardwired and speed test show ~48mps/down & 5/up
-Just upgraded to the netflix UHD plan
Good to go on the hardware & connection front!

The way 4k has been advertised on netflix it shows the content available with a "UHD" symbol when netflix recognized you have a 4k device, but since Netflix is on the tablet and not the TV, does netflix recognize that a 4k device is available?

I've only wached a few Netflix shows so far but they're not the 4k shows. I watched a few minutes of Daredevil and it looked amazing but honestly everything looks good. How can I be 100% certain the content that my netflix app is casting is in 4K?

The problem is the saturation of the 2.4GHz band and ISP-supplied routers. With only 3 available non-overlapping channels, 2.4GHz networks can be stacked 3 and 4 deep in populated areas. Even worse when someone's a bad neighbor and forces on 40 MHz channel width for their own benefit and nukes 2/3 at a time.

If I open up inSSIDer at home, I can routinely detect nine separate wifi networks fighting over the 3 clear 2.4GHz channels. In 5GHz space, I see 1 or 2 networks among all 24 channels. FIOS, my provider, only just starting giving out 5GHz wifi routers at the end of 2015. And then only for their top-tier customers. Everyone else gets to pay $200 for the privilege of owning Verizon's very average-low end 5GHz router. Of course, anyone who knows better buys their own (and if you're doing that, you most likely already know how not to have these problems).

Glad to hear it! So the P-series can output legacy DD, and not just DD+, from its cast streams it sounds like. Is that just for NEtflix, or other apps as well?

SpectraCal releases CalMAN 5.7 beta for DolbyVision...

Download 5.7 automatically here (for CalMAN Enthusiast owners)

It's been recommended by Tyler Pruitt (Wifi Spy) that we wait to calibrate until VIZIO releases the P specific Golden Reference.... Vizio?????

Release Notes:

CalMAN 5.7.0 requires updated maintenance. Maintenance expiration date cut off is Jan 1, 2016.
Added Dolby Vision Golden Reference .dvgr file import function for Dolby Vision calibration.
Added Rec2020 support to QD780 and QD804 pattern generators.
Added the OLED Judd Modified white point.
Added Pattern Insertion feature for OLED displays. With this feature enabled, CalMAN will periodically display a full field pattern amidst the normal pattern progression. This feature is under Application Measurement Options and allows the user to specify frequency (in seconds), pattern duration (in seconds) and the pattern level.
Added a "User Mode" Exposure mode for the CR-100 and CR-250 meters.
Added support for the Teradek Colr LUT Box. This functions as both a Display and a Pattern Generator.
Added support for the Panasonic DX (2016) series displays.
Added a new EDR for the C6 to support LCD (LED PFS phosphor) displays.
Fixed issue connecting to the PR-730. We don't have one of these in house, so we'd love to get verification from the field that all is working well. If you have access to one, please let us know.
Added ST2084 Gamma formula to the ISF Professional license level.
Added support for the NEC and HP branded i1DisplayPro meters to the Ultimate, Professional, Expert, and Studio license levels.
Added support for the ISF Advanced report to the Studio license level.
Added 33 & 65 PC level 1D LUT data point options for the HP DreamColor z27x display.
Added 28 & 56 Video and 33 & 65 PC 1D LUT data points for EIZO displays.
Fixed an issue on the SI Basic, SI Advanced, Quick Analysis, HT Enthusiast, and Color Cube workflows. The drop down for Colorspace was using an inappropriate data field.

On the tablet, System/system info/system info will show you the resolution.
Make sure you have changed playback settings to high on your netflix account.

I have the shield and is working great. Getting resolution of 4K @60. Got Kodi working and is smooth.

Only issues:
Still can't load amazon videos apps. *politics. You could sideload them via chrome but max resolution is 1080P, have not fully test it.
Right now the Netflix app is not passing DV metadata.

Shield is the best up to date 4k device. HDMI 2.0 will be updated to 2.0a when HDR10 is finalize.

You can get Kodi on the 4k Fire TV so wouldn't that get you everything video streaming wise?

Firware updates for the new P series?

I purchased the 50" 2016 P series model to replace my 9 year old Pioneer Plasma that has worked flawlessly and still looked great but I couldn't be more pleased with the new set and the picture is even better and the black levels are as good as the Pioneer.

When I first turned on the set and went thought the initial setup the set found new firmware and downloaded it and installed it with no problem. I was just wondering if the future updates are just downloaded and installed or do I need to somehow check for updates manually? I wasn't able to find anything in the settings to check for updates.

Still a little confused. I see amazon prime in the Vizio apps list in their ads. Doesn't it work like it does on a Roku? I don't care if it casts, just want to stream their 4k content.

Not only didn't I do it consciously, but nothing presented itself to me in 2-1/2 hours that grabbed my technical awareness and stoked it. Often I thought... "wow, that's a beautifully lit scene" or on a few occasions it struck me that "I'd never seen anything on film like that before". Sitting 9 feet from the P75 is in itself a treat but the quality of the UHD, WCG HDR/DV image just wraps around you at that distance. Tonite, I wasn't reminded at all that the "P isn't perfect". We know that. But I also, for the first time in 3 weeks, stopped looking for imperfections and just realized how great this display is to watch a movie on.

Regardless of whether you ever own a P series, the story here is just how lucky we are to be entering this technical era where you can have something like this in our home, at a price that is becoming affordable for a much greater segment of the population.

It also struck me tonite that they have to transfer Moulin Rouge to UHD/DolbyVision.
What title did you watch?

Casting is how you stream to the P series... Otherwise just get an external player. Roku 4, FireTV 2 etc...

Besides games which goes to the shield, no streaming service is 4k/60.
So if your TV is 4k/60 and you input a 4k/30 signal you will get the same results, no?

So for purely a video streaming box, the fire has more.

now if android games are a priority, the faster cpu is needed.
But for video streaming? not so sure.

The new P series is on the android eco system with casting. They have a girl fight about TV video content on their devices. App for prime is different than the amazon video app. So no amazon video on android OS. You could go with 3rd party non Android os devices to be plugged via HDMI.

FYI some how Sony android OS has amazon app. It beast me. POLITICS and money.

That was their old system. The new Google Cast system does not offer Amazon. This is because of the "feud" between Amazon and Google. With the old Eco system they had Amazon et all becuse it was on the Yahoo system.

Well I received my replacement p series due to a few stuck pixels and tablet battery dying rapidly. Overall the uniformity of this set is much better and the dse is much better. However now I have several pixels in a splotch that look like they are either dirty, or dead. I have a replacement on order for it as these are dead center in the screen and I can notice them from where I sit. I watch a lot of hockey but they stick out on the white ice. Can someone tell me if they are indeed dead pixels?

So if your TV is 4k/60 and you input a 4k/30 signal you will get the same results, no?

So for purely a video streaming box, the fire has more.

now if android games are a priority, the faster cpu is needed.
But for video streaming? not so sure.
Having a good GPU like nvidia and good CPU and feature prof like hardware is everything to get smooth content. Is having a machine that could load any 3rd party app and make work smooth for example kodi. The amazon tv is a bit clunky, dont even have usb 3.0 or gigabit Ethernet *GB Ethernet comes in handing if your stream some content on your home network NAS.

Al i'm saying for the money is a great box.
