Mine works fine. I have a Denon though, and I think they are known to be working fine.

So, after watching all the crap unfold over Pacific Rim, I paid for it this morning.

First of all...holy hell is it fantastic in UHD HDR...like wow! It blows Mad Max outta the water. I would say it is a properly done HDR movie, where Mad Max isn't.

Secondly, I messed with the backlight during playback a little, it's interesting the effect it has. It makes total sense, but is tough to describe.

Lastly, one of the startups of the movie, not only did I see the backlight boost(which I have it set to calibrated dark) to 85, I also noticed the color tones change in the white VUDU graphic as well.

Also to add...confirmation of variable backlight, different startup points yields different backlight numbers.

Mine doesn't switch to 85. If left at default calibrated dark setting for dolby vision, it switches to 45 here when I start the movie.

Thomas, you're spot on. As long as its withing a normal range, I can handle the uniformity variances. The wife will not allow a unicorn chase for the perfect panel and constant swapping.

Also, Thanks for helping everyone with your early adopter experience and recommendations. That along with Matt from Vizio and Scott's podcast, I'm going to stay with the p75 order.

Here's what I have to say about box store demos.... just my opinion...

Regarding auditioning displays in box stores...

1. Cable sources are run off a multiplexer. 2 tv's side by side running the same channel can exhibit perfection on 1 signal and the other looks like it's OTA analogue. Demo over..

2. Settings between manufacturers... just never apples to apples. Over....

3. Unless you can view a Bluray or 4k source directly connected (not over some multiplexed feed) forget the comparisons. Too many things you can't account for.

4. Getting advice... from who? Unless you personally know someone that you trust, it's best to just trust yourself in your home. Best advice is right here on AVS.

5. Ambient light.... kills any demo, period (unless of course you plan on viewing in a room with flourescent lighting).

6. You cannot judge this tv's performance during a 20 minute demo at a box store.... over.

The days of the showroom demo from knowledgable professionals are over, unless you are willing and want to do a high end integration with Mag or your local HT company. If you choose that route, you'll be mostly missing the opportunity provided by this option. They can't make any money selling this TV.

Vizio expects you to take this TV home and use it. They sell it themselves online... Returns are part of the business model.

Pictures of box store TV's... seriously, think about how useless that is. We've already established the picture is being taken of a TV that's likely setup wrong with a marginal feed. Now we go further off the cart path with a picture taken by a cell phone camera in a room with overhead fluorescent lights? Please... This goes for any brand...

You are the best judge of what's acceptable to you and IMO that decision cannot be reliabley made during a box store viewing. Get it in your house and if you still feel like you need to come and tell us why you returned it and bought the OLED, have at it.

JMO

Along almost the entire top edge and then a bright orange/yellow line vertically about 12-18" from the right side.

Regarding panel quality, I took a closer look last night and did not notice any bad pixels. It may have a slight yellow bar at the bottom middle but frankly unless I had known to look for it I would not have noticed.

Happy with what I have.

The top edge was probably adjustable in settings. I would have probably kept it and updated the firmware first personally. I understand how you were thinking though at the time.

I added this after the fact...it depends on the startup point in the movie, that's the number that permanently shows after that.

Ugh maybe you're right it looked like really really bad edge bleeding and just weird mixes of bright colors and that line going vertically was maybe 1/2 inch thick it just looked very not normal, before I could even say anything the deliverymen said "well that's going back" - who knows, too late now. I live in a one bedroom apartment in the city so I have nowhere to keep a spare 65 inch television until an exchange happens was basically my thinking.

Thanks for checking. It was back this morning so I reset all settings on the TV and we'll see. I think if it keeps on happening I may have to start the exchange process. I don't really want to even entertain the idea of spending $8K on the Sony and I'm sure if I did I would find a different problem with it.

Not a problem....probably just a problem with yours somehow. What has Vizio had to say about it?

Now that it's been talked about people are gonna watch for it. I wouldn't start thinking silly thoughts of a different set just yet...lol!

P now or M later

P vs M
I have a 50" 1080P Samsung plasma that I sit 9 feet from. I've been wanting a larger screen for a long long time. I love how my plasma looks (I just want a larger movie-like screen). So I'm not sure if I'd be happier with a 65" P series that I could get now or wait for a 2016 70" M series to be released.

It will be a long time before my next tv so I want one with a great picture and a big screen on a $2000 budget.

Opinions?

If you can justify the expense, get the P. I had an M80 (great TV). You won't regret having DolbyVision, HDR and the wide color gamut afforded by a true 10bit panel.

Sorry to say but I am returning my Vizio 65" P Series. After having returned two Samsung JS8500 sets (for backlight and dead pixel issues), I am now completely lost as to what I should get. LG's reviews don't look that great either and is limited to 3 HDMIs. Sony is over priced and apparently not even as good as the LGs.

The problem with the Vizio for me is the software. It's either buggy or just too unintuitive.

Yesterday I played a youtube video on the TV for the kids. When they were done, instead of hitting stop (or stop casting), i moved to the Vizio remote app to change back to the HDMI input so I can just watch regular TV when i noticed youtube was playing on HDMI5 instead of CAST. So i killed the youtube app. Yet video keeps playing. I turn off the tv and turn in back on 30 mins later. Youtube still playing! I unplug the TV and plug back in later, youtube still playing! I switch the HDMI physical cable from 5 to 4 and youtube still playing! I couldn't figure out how to get back to regular tv! Needlessly to say it was frustrating like all hell.

Little software things like this, picture looking like crap from my Verizon fios feed (through my tivo), much more crappier than the JS8500 i remember, no USB input support, etc makes it an easy decision to return this thing.

Maybe I'll give the 2016 Samsung KS series a try but they lack Dolby Vision and FALD...Why is it so hard to find a tv nowadays.

With the backlight set to 10% in calibrated dark? I don't have access to my set right now but I'll be curious to take a look when I can.

Do you feel your picture is a reasonable assimilation of what you were looking at?

thanks for clarifying! I may get the Roku now but hate to buy additional item as already have directv, ps4, apple tv. I sent note to Ultraflix support saying I signed up cuz their website says the support Vizio P series (obviously the old version when the smart OS resided on the TV) and asked if they had plans to support GoogleCast w their app. for now I will stick to Vudu or Hulu.... and hoping Directv ads HDR to their movies sometime soon....

will have to get tv delivered to check out answer to music app within the vizio app question...

I shared some thoughts about the interface on the HTG show I did with Scott regarding some of my concerns in this regard as well. The firmware updates have been rolling out as well as updates to the apps. Might I suggest reporting the issues and keeping the set up until your return date is about to expire? It might give you a chance to get within you tolerance window. There's a lot of evolution to come on the interface.
