Defeats what point? What would be the benefit of local dimming on a hockey game?

Thanks!

$650 for a 55" P series sounds like a great deal to me. Make sure it has the tablet with it.

I'm a gamer too but I don't get so many people's obsession with HDR gaming latency. Very little info has been released. HDR to me is a way bigger deal for movies.

It does. Some guy returned it after 1 day because he hated the tablet is what they told me.

I'd buy it for that price and I don't even need one.

Cool. I'll probably pick it up shortly. Hopefully Vizio will fix the HDR lag issue soon, if Rtings report is true.

1080i deinterlacing issue, FALD issues

I've noticed that when I have the FALD activated, transitions from light scenes to dark scenes seems to have a little lag; as the picture switches to the dark image, the brightness seems to stay high for a split second before catching up. I can even notice it with white subtitles—as the subtitles disappear, I notice a leftover blooming/flicker of light for a split second about an inch all around where the subtitles were.

This is the first FALD display I've owned, so I'm sure if this is normal (maybe I'm just not used to such high levels of contrast lol), if it's something that can be fixed with calibration or wear-in, or if I simply have a faulty display. I don't notice it at all with FALD disabled.

I would greatly appreciate any help!

Thanks
@Matt McRae

I notice this too. I also notice during credits with white text on a black field a pulsating effect that is not present if FALD is disabled.

Hoping this other issue can be fixed via firmware update. I watch a lot of 1080i broadcast TV, and the TV displays combing artifacts as deinterlacing doesn't appear to be handled correctly. I can duplicate this at will with my HQV Bluray benchmark 2.0 test disc and setting the player to output 1080i, which leaves the deinterlacing chore to the TV.

Can the FALD fine-tuning and deinterlacing tweaking be done via a firmware update?

Otherwise, loving my P65-C1!!

I also see the 'Pulsating' during end-movie credits, but it's no biggie to me. The Active LED Zone feature is much better on my P50-C1 than it was with my 2014 P50. Perhaps it's a trade-off?

These 2016 P-Series (and M?) have 'less picture processing' to show more detail, from what I understand, yes/no?

Any 'deinterlacing' (or up-scaling?) problem that I see this time around, is through my Sony DVR when viewing 480i or less, if the output is left at 720p or 1080i instead of switching the Sony to 480i. I didn't have to do this with the 2014 P50.

I have my set top box setup to output the source resolution of the channel I'm viewing, so in this case 1080i is being passed through to the TV, which then has to do the deinterlacing. The set top box doesn't have a 1080p output option.

Regarding the pulsating during ending credits, it's just a small thing really, as movies generally look very good. However, even in the course of regular content being played, I do see some pulsating here or there, especially when there is some panning in the scenes or live broadcasts.

Yeah, quite a few HDR capable games are coming to consoles this year. Rise of the Tomb Raider is another. Some older games are getting HDR support via updates as well. Also, the original PS4 and the PS4 Slim will be getting an HDR update soon.

Watching Notre Dame football in 4K UHD on DirecTV...awesome. Beautiful picture. Calibrated mode, back light 85, color 45, sharpness 10, factory normal color temperature. Looks like every ND game on NBC will be 4K presented by DirecTV.

I watched the Revenant straight through on my P65, a little stutter now and then. The M65 was a disaster. Keeps freezing and this weird glitchy color bar kept coming across the screen.

Hmm. Can't say that I've seen that. Now ya have me looking for it.

I know with my 2014 P50, there was a scene during Gunsmoke, at night, with some highlights here-n-there. It was so specific that the FALD was pumping up and down big time. The TV didn't know what to do with that scene.

I turned off the Auto-LED, rewound to that spot on my DVR, scene played ok.

I'm unimpressed, but willing to try another P55

The features, the colour, the tablet and the viewing angle is excellent, I really want this TV to work out.

Thoughts on ps4 pro compatibility with the p series? It looks like hdmi 5 will not be an option for gaming due to lack of HDR. Will this lead to lag issues? I hope I didn't make a mistake buying a p65. I will definitely be gaming on the new ps4 pro.

It's all a guessing game for now. We'll get a better sense of the situation when the PS4 HDR update goes live next week. Once the first game is patched for HDR we can finally get some non Rtings documentation of the input lag with HDR.

The Forza Horizon 3 demo hits Xbox One tomorrow, and it should be HDR-enabled, so we should have answers sooner than that.

Can anyone who uses bias lighting, please provide a link for a good brand product? Is it best to put a strip on the bottom and top of a 65" display...or is one strip in the middle enough? Thanks

Hulu Smartcast Vs Apple TV

I have the P65 and noticed that when I was watching Hulu on my Apple TV that it upconverts the signal to 1080P/ 60. But when I watch Hulu casting from the Tablet it's in 720P/ 24. On my P65 which way of watching Hulu do you think is better?

Thanks

So my Netflix problem has returned. I discovered that when playing "Cosmo Laundromat" my Denon 3200 plays "DOLBY SURROUND TV" and audio works fine. When playing "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" the Denon 3200 displays "DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS" and the audio is very choppy and loses the Dolby Digital signal. The Dolby symbol on my front display will disappear when the audio cuts out. I can't switch my Denon to play Dolby Surround and no other setting I played with would prevent the audio from cutting out. Anyone with any advice or a Denon receiver that could help would be great.

Weird,
Aren't they supposed to play the videos from a USB-stick?

That's how all companies do it nowadays. They don't rely on external sources anymore. Because of exactly that: manipulateso sources

The enemy can feed false Intel here on avs as well 🤔

Ended up getting that P55 for only 600$ but it has some issues. Even after updating the tablet and TV for a couple hours. Casting from various sources Netflix/youtube made the TV seems like it was set to only 20 on backlight or something....very dim.

No clear action or lack of brightness was the issue. Xbox looked good but kept loosing signal. It also has some pretty good IPS glow and banding. Probably will return it or see if maybe Vizio would be willing to exchange it.

I wish I could just buy a new Panny VT plasma. Love plasma's.
