I am looking at a 65inch q9fn or a q90r. Are these an improvement in picture quality compared to the ks8000 or are they about the same? I am a bit worried about the q90r as I have read that it cut down on the bright objects to make sure it doesn't bloom and has a tendency to crush the blacks.

Which tv would you all recommend I upgrade to?

Q90R is significantly better than the KS8000. For one it isn’t edge lit and has way more zones. Tizen has also improved a lot and doesn’t seem to freeze up as much on the 2019 models. I love my KS8000 as well but Q90R is a better set. It is also better than the q9fn (2018 QLED) you are looking at. Q70R and above are all FALD, however, Q80R and above have the anti reflective coating like the KS8000. One other thing to point out is that the Q80T (2020 model) supposedly has fewer zones than the Q80R and the Q90T is more like a Q80R. Although missing from the specs on Samsung.com, ABT has pointed out the Q80T has the ultra wide viewing angle technology (apparently the feature is on the box). 2020 models support 4K 120hz and eARC on the Q70T and above. From what I’ve heard the Q90R is the only model from 2019 that will be updated to support eARC. Not sure what features you’re interested in but there are a lot of options available so you’ll want to make sure to get whatever model has the features you’re looking for.

Not an answer to your question but that is a clean looking setup.

Thank you this was exactly what I was looking for. Looks like I'm going to get the q90r and a Panasonic dp-ub820(to replace my Samsung k8500)

Disney Plus issues.

the app worked fine on my KS8000 for several months until it stopped opening a few weeks ago. I tried reinstalling the app, resetting the Smart Hub and the app still won't open. I'm guessing something happened when a firmware update changed Disey+ to be a recommended/built-in app.

I finally did a full reset of the TV and at first I was able to open Disney+ and log in. However after I logged in to other apps (Prime Video and/or Netflix) I was unable to open Disney+ again. App works fine on a Roku connected to another TV we have and on our phones. Samsung support says there is nothing else they can do.

Has anyone experienced the same thing on their KS8000/KS8500?

7.4.4 wth bro your walls will collapse !!!
My wife will never let me do it 😕 you lucky bastard.
More seriously, i tried a q9fn for few days and found it a slight upgrade over my ks.
Never had a q90 but it’s not better than q9fn.
The upgrade i noticed when i got my q9fn was the size it’s a real difference a good one.
Then i moved to oled and for sure i will never go back.

I checked my firmware this weekend and it said I was up to date but the last FW update is dated late 2018 I believe?

My Disney works, its the showtime app I have trouble with and I have to do a soft reset and then it works again for a couple weeks and then won't load and I have to do it again.

Also I didn't see apple TV app on my smart hub and I did a search for it and couldn't find it? Is it not available for the KS series?

I work to live and live for the beach.

I know firmware updates on this set have been hit or miss, I'm currently on 1233, is there any good reason to not go up to 1242 atm?

Wondering if anyone can help me with game mode

Hello, I play mlb the show diamond dynasty on the faster graphic setting which means the game renders for gameplay over graphics and I play with game mode on the tv, yet I still experience input lag. Is there any way I can fix this? Or should I reset the tv? I have the ks8500 55 inch

Dead LEDS?

Only really noticeable when the picture is very flat and bright like a blue sky. I am sure there are a few dead leds in the backlight strip. At one point, looking from very near the bottom edge of the screen, I could actually see one flickering on and off. I can't find anything with the thread search (which doesn't work worth a damn on Android). Anyone recall seeing this mentioned in this huge thread? Also, can parts, and a service manual be ordered? I'm sure I could replace the strip, but would not want to dig into it without the manual.

Gord
My 2.5 year old KS8000 now looks to have 6 dead LEDs along the bottom edge. Is there any fix I can do or is it time to call a repair tech?

Thank you

I would call some service tech companies if they can swap the edge lights.. but probably no tech visits till after Covid .. however long that will take

I have been experiencing intermittent audio drop outs with firmware version 1242.

Have others been hearing this too?

You know that was an issue a long while ago and I haven't noticed it recently as my KS8500 has been on auto update and I haven't been paying attention. I just turned it off, I'm on 1241 and haven't noticed that annoying sound drop out I did a good while back, I just turned off auto update as I don't want that non-sense back, thanks for mentioning this.

Can anyone help me with a query. What is the largest size external drive size capacity a KS8000 can read to play files from?
I have a 1, 4and 5Tb portable external hard drive and my ks8000 can only read thr 1TB one. If it can read anything larger (1.5-3) I would buy another drive. Thank you.

I noticed last night that I had ARC turned on. I changed my configuration a couple weeks ago and stopped using it but never turned it off. Last night, after turning it off, I didn't have any audio dropouts. I hope that solves the problem but I won't know for several days.

I have two different 2tb portable external hard drives. One from Toshiba and one from Western Digital. Both work fine with the TV.
