My setup ks8000 to M550 and K950 soundbars.
If you want to add a soundbar i recommand the N 850/950 samsung.
Distance and practicality. The soundbar is at the headboard of the bed, the tv is about 5 feet from the foot of the bed and in between is a ceiling fan. I'd much rather have the sound behind & above me than increase the volume of the tv over the fan in the summer at night.
With some samsung sb you can use wifi to connect to tv, so you will get 5.1 dolby and dts.

My ks8000 seems to be forcing some level of motion smoothing. I have all settings for it turned off and have had this tv since 2016. This seems to have started happening since the last time I updated it.

If I enable game mode it stops and looks normal. But with game mode off using movie or even standard preset with all motion smoothing turned off it's forcing it. I've tried Blu-ray's, UHD Blu-ray's, streaming, movie files on PC, does it to everything.

It's not the full soap opera effect but can tell it's doing some level of light smoothing and its very irritating that it never did that for years but now I have to watch movies in game mode which doesn't look right.

Upgraded to a Sony X950G last night

Finally Dolby Vision and Atmos

With local dimming

Can’t wait!

I’ll do a review to see how it compares to the Samsung KS

Thanks that would be interesting. Keep looking at the latest Samsung's but lack of DV concerns me.

We probably won't see DV on Samsungs until they've given up on HDR10+. In other news, the HDFury folks have a way of utilizing player-led (decoding done by the player, not the TV) DV with one of their boxes and any HDR10 TV. Check their website or the HDFury threads in the "Video Processors" area here on AVS for details...

Hello!
I have a UE65KS9500 (in Usa UN65KS9800) tv and I notice that the picture quality is deteriorating from update to update. In this conversation: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/...1738773#M40279 several people are discussing this, that Samsung is constantly deteriorating the picture quality Ks7000-->Ks9800. The backlight control got worse, it didn't work well, the Smart Led (local dimming) got worse, the motion display also got worn, etc. Here, too, we would ask everyone to let Samsung know as much as possible to fix the bugs and not ruin our TV! I hope we can work together to fix the bugs as soon as possible!
Have nice day!

FWIW.. Samsung has always been pretty great with updates. They keep TVs updated for years after their release even producing hardware updates where available.

Any "bugs" of their own making are corrected in days and will even be a forced update if needed.

I personally dont have any problems with recent updates and my picture quality is definitely better than 4 years ago..

You mean the openings on the back?!
I doubt there is any mechanical ventilators on these sets.

There are no fans if that's the question. There are ventilation openings for airflow on the bottom of the sceen (between the feet/stands).

Have nice day!

That’s a load of nonsense!
By doing so, they’re opening themselves up to lawsuits.
Maybe we need to consider as that as the panels age, the backlight is not going to be as bright and the quantum dots are not going to be as efficient!
Sight memory is not very accurate and we just think something is better or worse.
Same as audio memory when someone thinks one piece of audio equipment sounds better than the other!
Only way to test is side by side!

If anyone here has tried this with their ks8000, what kind of results did you get?

I was going to try, since I have one of the necessary HDFury boxes, but my UHD player is older and not one of the correct ones (it apparently needs an internal DV chip or software decoder). Rats.

Have not tried because I don’t own one but the threads are very interesting. Basically some players (Panasonic, Sony, ATV4K) process DV on the player side (called LLDV) and send HDR10 metadata to TVs such as Sony OLEDs that support LLDV. The device allows you to fake the EDID of one of theses TVs (ie the Sony OLED) so that these players will send you HDR10 metadata after processing the DV for you.

The problem with relying on YouTube clips is that they are not always presented in the format claimed, hence the number of "HDR" titles that are actually not.

Yea I know that but that clip is HDR it's also HLG clip. I'm just wondering why it looks off , didn't this tv get HLG support. Of did they change their minds on that too.

HLG was only enabled for internal apps, IIRC, not for HDMI. So if this was from an external source, you wouldn't get it.

It is enticing, isn't it? I don't have one either. Quite likely the results would not be worth the cost of the investment with these sets. But the itch to find out is strong.

Yeah it is. Could be useful on any Samsung (especially ones that don’t get as bright). I think a lot of people are using it with projectors and the results look very promising. The owner will sometimes also post coupons in his thread. I think people that buy them also get it for the ability to split audio video across multiple HDMI ports. If you have an older receiver or TV and don’t want to replace it, it provides a lot of options. It is also capable of HDCP conversion which is useful for some older 4K sets.

Do the 8 series pass DD through optical out

Thanx Kg

My friend has a 55” and wants me to hook up all his non 4K audio gear, and i thought optical out would be a costless option instead of a soundbar. To my knowledge its gonna be a “streaming only” system

As of Feb 20th still looking for a Marantz SR7010

Yes. Plain vanilla DD (and I believe DTS as well) 5.1, or 2-channel PCM. No DD+.
