Does not this explanation of the 2nd gen Fire TV imply otherwise:

Is there a further level of subtlety that makes your statement and that article both true, and if so, can someone explain?

The article only speaks to HDCP 2.2, the copy protection protocol, and not the HDMI version. Amazon itself sidesteps the issue by not putting the HDMI version down anywhere that I can find. The Fire TV 4K page does list the max resolution as 2160p up to 30fps under Technical Details.

This article explains what to expect with the Fire TV 3, and specifically mentions in the HDMI section that the Fire TV 2 and Fire TV stick are HDMI 1.4.

Consumer Reports also reports HDMI 1.4 in this article.

I thought HDCP 2.2 *required* HDMI 2.0a. I've never seen anything indicating otherwise. Is that not the case? Could there have been a firmware update?

BTW: Thanks for the explanation and the article links. Pretty much rules out the Fire TV for me. Still figuring out the current status of the K8500 player.

Bend in frame of TV

I'm not sure why posts aren't getting through, but anyways, what do you all think about this bend in my KS8000?

My TV is just delivered. PQ is amazing and i love it so much. The only issue i have with this TV, when in PC mode, Text looks blurry. Is there any way to fix that?

Note: Sharpness is indeed set to 50 in PC mode, but it don't look smooth. Maybe HDMI cable issue?

I could be wrong, but I haven't found a source that straight out says HDCP 2.2 requires HDMI 2.0. However, this article states that some Onkyo receivers had a HDMI 2.0 implementation that included HDCP 2.2 but limited itself to HDMI 1.4 bandwidth (10.2Gbps instead of 2.0's 18Gbps). Perhaps this is what Amazon did for the Fire TV 4K and HDMI 2.0 is a requirement for HDCP 2.2. Either way, the current Fire TV does not support 4K60 or HDR.

Just registered to ask that question!

Looking to get this TV after the PS4 Pro announcement. I saw that on rtings but was hoping to get confirmation from actual owners here.

I actually looked at my KS8000 last night using the same view, and it has the exact same mini-bend! The amount of curvature is like 1-2 mm for 48" of width, so I'm not going to get caught up on it.

1) Are you running at 1920x1080 or 3840x2160? Text will likely look blurrier in 1920x1080, as that is not native resolution.
2) If you are running in native resolution, can you confirm that you are getting 4:4:4 chroma? This page is a good guide: http://www.geeks3d.com/20141203/how-...our-4k-uhd-tv/ , with the test image here: http://i.rtings.com/images/Chroma-444.png . The bottom two rows of vertical lines should have very clear alternating blue and red pixels. If in doubt, take a picture and show us.
3) Are you using Windows or Mac? If Windows, you might want to re-configure ClearType.

Warning: This may be an unreleased test version with bugs and the firmware cannot be brought back to 1121 once applied. I can't say for sure this was the cause, but in the week since I updated it, the top bar of my Smarthub is stuck in a blank gray state and I have to reset Smart Hub to get it back. I lose all my sources, account services, universal remotes, etc when this happens, costing me an hour of work each time. It will probably be fixed in a future update but I'm SOL for now.

The tech was all over the place on the problem, claiming everything from never hearing about the problem, to saying that it is caused by the TV losing its internet connection, and even saying I need to wait 60 seconds every time I turn on the TV before calling up the Smart Hub. Unbelievable! I kept trying to get him to escalate the problem and he kept making stuff up, blatantly contradicting earlier claims. I suspect this will happen again and have no idea what to do.
I ended up calling the support phone number and had more luck. At least he is documenting and escalating the problem. It seems likely that it is caused by applying the 1132 firmware which may be an unreleased, buggy version. See my other post about that.

This happened to me twice while being on firmware 1121. I have also updated to 1132 and have not experienced any issues.. Pulling the power while the tv is on fixed the smart hub for me both times.

Ah, very important feedback. I always turned off the tv before disconnecting power, so I'll try it that way next time.

I may call back to let them know it is definitely a bug unrelated to the update. Unfortunately, 1132 does not fix it though.

Edit: Called them and reported the bug in 1121. Hopefully they will address it in the next release. Thanks!

Just got my TV yesterday, this time no issue with the OCB. Let me say the PQ is insane as previously stated numerous times on this thread, but the initial setup process was killer, didn't go to bed until 2:30am. I have a complex setup (Denon avr1911, Fire TV for Kodi, 360, Oppo, and Fios cable box. All was previously fed into the receiver via hdmi and then to the TV via one hdmi cable. After numerous attempts and resets, I could not get everything to work seamlessly with everything being fed through the avr first and then to the ocb, I also was wary of going straight into the ocb because I have my deck outdoor music tied to my avr via cable box and airport express. The issue was once everything was setup, I could watch cable, switch to youtube or netflix with the sound properly switching (hdmi arc), but when I switched back to cable, I had to manually switch my receiver back to cable 8 out of 10 times, that arc stuff is pretty funky (yes on hdmi 4 on the ocb)

So I took the advice of most on here suggesting to use the OCB as the switcher and to use optical back to the avr. This method works 100% and did not break my deck/zone 2 functionality. Right now everything is controllable via the samsung smart remote, except the oppo which I think it can, but would rather use the oppo remote for that. The current setup also enables me to turn on both the tv and receiver together, and cut them off together (the wife loves this - no more fiddling with 5 remotes). Would be nice if the Samsung remote's voice search carried over to the Fire TV, but no biggie. I also have LIFX bulbs that I can change with Alexa through my Fire TV remote, but I know this TV has Samsung Smart Things but you have to order a dongle, anyone try that yet?

Later on today I will experiment with the picture calibration, everyone seems to gravitate towards the Rtings settings, so I will start there. From my preliminary tinkering, I found Dynamic to be too high in contrast, very unrealistic. Movie looks like I don't have a brand new 4K tv lol. The best seems to be the standard mode at the moment. I tried hdr+ and it made everything dull, so I will search the thread about that. Also tried HDR mode (by first putting on movie mode and then selecting an HDR video to play) - I didn't really notice a difference, and wasn't sure how to tell if HDR was actually on, even though a popup said a HDR video was now playing. Maybe those poppy colors I was expecting only work on uhd blu-ray? Also, my standard blu-rays look phenomenal as well! The oppo can upscale to 4k but that's going into the receiver and my receiver doesn't accepts 4K signals, so I'm having the TV do the upscaling and I'm satisfied with it. ~More to come..

Thank you. I am running windows 10, and the resolution is 1080P. Is there a way to get the cleartype with 1080P resoltion?

If you are outputting 1080p and letting the TV upscale that to 2160p, I would actually recommend turning off ClearType altogether, as ClearType assumes a certain subpixel layout (which would not be the case after an upscale).

Does your PC not support output at 2160p? I would output at 2160p with some scaling in Windows (I use 125% or 150%) if at all possible. 2160p is one of the reasons to get a 4k TV to use as a monitor, right?

The "Disappearing icons" is a bug in 1125 and 1131 as well. I'm gobsmacked that they still haven't fixed it. It's made me rather discombobulated to be honest.

Picked up the 8500 two weeks ago and I've really been enjoying it. I'm coming from a Samsung plasma that's been moved into my game room. So far I've watched a little bit of everything from NFL/NCAA football/movies/TV shows via Direct TV, Netflix 4k, YouTube 4k videos, and Firestick Kodi. The picture is a beast. I can't wait to see what it looks like after I buy a 4k blu ray player.

I bought the 65 inches KS8000, i'm having a hard time watching HDR content on it, I've the Samsung UBD K8500 UHD bluray player and 20+ UHD blurays, but I don't see the "pop" that everybody are talking, I've calibrate the set with the settings form this forum, there's a possibility that my HDMI cables are thre problem (when the 4k bluray disc are playing, there's a HDR badge on top, but when I play some HDR demos from my HDD conected directly to the One conect box, the video have more pop and there a little badge like a sun and a moon besides the HDR badge) any input will be greatly appreciated!!!

I would like to know as well. I was going to try this, but my receiver (denon avr1911) does not accept the 4k signal that the Oppo outputs. I also cant connect straight to the OCB because the OCB cannot passthrough Dolby HD or DTS HD. Maybe there is a way to get the high fidelity audio from the Oppo directly to the denon, but I am already using the optical for everything else. At the end of the day it may not make much difference as the TV is doing the 4K upscaling, but I would really like to see what the Oppo could do in this regard, as no one really had a 4K TV to test this years ago when it came out.

I've never seen a sun or moon just the little drop down that an HDR video is playing. Though I do get that whether uhd color is on or off for that hdmi port. I know since before I ran my cable box through my Xbox one s I had to turn uhd color off to get sound and left it off going back to my k8500. I noticed right away it didn't look right even though it said an HDR video was playing.

Have you made sure to turn on uhd color for the hdmi input?

Just got this email today.... isn't this swell . . . if its real?
You may have heard reports recently about a security issue involving VerticalScope. We would like to make sure you have the facts about what happened, what information was involved, and the steps we are taking to help protect you. VerticalScope owns and operates a number of community websites. You are receiving this email because you are a registered user of the following community website(s) involved in the data breach:
www.saabcentral.com
www.toyotanation.com
www.powerequipmentforum.com
www.avsforum.com

What Happened?

On June 13, 2016, we became aware that February 2016 data stolen from VerticalScope was being made available online.

What Information Was Involved?

Community member usernames, email addresses, hashed passwords, community userIDS, community website, and the IP address the username originally registered with.

What We Are Doing

We have invalidated passwords of all VerticalScope user accounts. We have posted a site security notification on each site updating users on the potential risk to certain accounts, the password reset and steps we are implementing to improve security. We have implemented stronger password rules (passwords now require a minimum of 10+ characters and a mixture of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols) along with automated account password expiries to encourage more frequent password changes. We will remind our users to use good password practices (not using the same password for multiple online accounts and using unique strong passwords). We are in the process of implementing additional safeguards to detect, alert and mitigate any future brute force attempts, and have notified our third party vendors that interact with our various forum API's of the February breach to allow their own security teams to investigate. We are continuing our investigation and will be collecting information to provide to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

VerticalScope is taking steps to strengthen account security. We were already using encrypted passwords and salted hashes to store passwords, and our new password controls are intended to further strengthen user security. We are taking steps to investigate and test new encryption and security technologies to further protect our users.

What You Can Do

To keep your account as safe as possible, we recommend that you regularly change your VerticalScope community password, and that you use a unique password for each of your online accounts. Using the same password for multiple online accounts significantly increases your chances of being compromised. Even though the passwords stolen in February were hashed, we recommend that if you were using (or are currently using) your VerticalScope community password across multiple online accounts, that you change your password for such other online accounts. We encourage you to regularly review your accounts and report any suspicious or unrecognized activity immediately.

For More Information

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Community Management team by email at [email protected] or on the website that you frequent. A support thread has been created on each website, and our support teams are on there to help you through the process and answer any questions you may have. A Notice of Data Breach is also available on community websites involved in the data breach.

Oh, just being sarcastic! Im such a kidder I'd never pick on you! It is a good word though. I'm going to submit it to bill o'reilly on fox news . . . so he can use it at the end of nightly program where he tosses out a great word of the day so we can improve ourselves. I think he used to be an english teacher.

Damn . . . another good one:

Like @frisbfreek said, let it go. All you (or any other new owner) should be worrying about is whether it delivers the picture and performance you wanted.

The sun+moon is an icon at the left of that little sliding drop-down. Blink and you'll miss it.
