-There's handshaking issues with protected rights content coming from the third party boxes plugged into the OneConnect box.

Before adding more features with the software, they really need to troubleshoot these issues.

There's discussions on another forum that the OneConnect box will NEVER be able to pass Dolby to a receiver. This is unfortunate. Most folks will use the receiver as the main input, but this defeats the purpose of the OneConnect box and universal remote. Too bad. I am at my wits end with these issues.
Good news from my standpoint. After updating to the latest firmware, I can report that Dolby is passing through my Amazon Fire TV, Roku 4 and a Time Warner Cisco cable box. Now the one connect box is useful, I do like how I can quickly switch inputs and the I can use one small remote for all operations, controlling all boxes.

For me, just using the TV for several days - putting into Standby overnight - does it. All I ever do is select source HDMI4 and watch my satellite TV via my Denon amp.

I don't completely turn off the power at the wall overnight, because if I do that, there's a DIFFERENT bug which happens - it loses all the names I've given to my inputs!!!

Thanks guys for the information! As far as open box I plan to check it out throughly. Does anyone know if you can grab a warranty like square trade from open box items from Best Buy? I know they dropped support from Amazon warehouse. Also I've got a buddy that works at Best Buy and I'm certain I can walk out of Best Buy with a 60" for 1200 or a 55 for 1000

I'd say it's not an issue at all. See earlier posts on this thread. (DV is very unlikely to be widely adopted IMHO.)

The UHD color turns on automatically on the OCB when is conected to the UHD bluray player if I'm not mistaken.

Can you please be very specific about which "Dolby". DD5.1, DD7.1, Dolby Atmos? It's the last two that are in doubt.

Went shopping for our new KS8000 55" three weeks ago at Video Only, which when viewing the 60" KS8000, the picture quality was not as good as the 55" model. When our sales rep told me that the 60" KS8000 was a outsource panel, my decision was quickly made to purchase the 55" model.

After a few little tweaks, the picture quality of the Samsung KS8000 55" model is incredible and when viewing 4K HDR material, it's mind blowing.

Thanks,
Randy

It definitely did not for me but I also have that anynet+ stuff off so not sure if that has anything to do with it but it was still off and when I turned it on it kinda locked up the player and I had to turn it off then back on and all was well.

That is the only time it's happened cause since then I have routed my cable box through the one s to avoid having to turn off the uhd color anymore.

So I'm going back and forth between this and the LG OLED (B6). I was hoping to upgrade to an OLED but due to the average to high input lag on the B6 (and not necessarily wanting a curved screen so the C6 isn't ideal) I'm looking at other options. If I end up with an LED panel then I'd just plan on waiting for QLED to hit the market.

I currently have a Sony KDL-55W900A which has treated me very well. The low input lag in particular has been very impressive.

My goal with this up is to go up to a 65" panel as well as upgrade to 4K and HDR. I primarily use the TV for pc and console gaming.

For anyone familiar with my current Sony TV, would the quality of the KS8000 be a good choice as an upgrade (putting 4K and HDR aside) or is there a different model that might be a better fit?

I have a couple of questions. I recently purchased my ks8000 55" and was not happy with the picture at first. I had heard that this might be the case until the tv had 100 hours on it. Either way I have played around with the settings and bought a calibration disc which I have used to do a self calibration and I am liking the picture now. Especially when I apply the settings in HDR+ mode. Here are my questions.

1. I get some flickering or shaking/movement of some words/letters especially during commercials. It is especially visible for example during a car commercial when they show the fine print and it seems to mostly happen to words and letters that are white. Any ideas what this is and how to fix this?

2. I used the HDMI cable that came with the TV when I bought it. It is a monster UltraHD 4k HDMI cable. Would upgrading this HDMI cable have a significant impact on the quality of the picture?

Fair enough Who doesn't love overloaded model numbers?

In any case, the US KS8000 and KS9000 don't differ by much, so my guess is the firmware update covers both lines.

When you say "QLED" do you mean quantum dot LED? If so, that tech is already out and the KS8000 has it!

I don't know of the PQ of your Sony, but PQ is very good on the KS8000. This TV is very good for PC and console gaming, especially now that we have confirmation HDR works in game mode. The only gripes you may have are some flashlighting and minimal edge bleed in an absolutely dark room, and some motion blur for really fast scenes (although it doesn't bother me, and there are settings to correct for it outside PC/Game mode).

It happened yet again this morning and I turned off the power while displaying the smart hub for a minute. Worked like a charm! (Still on 1132) Thanks!

It ended up back at Costco. PQ was amazing, but itt was bothering me too much as well as a strip of light about a quarter inch from the top which was noticeable and distracting in dark scenes.

No idea what your flickering/shaking is, but it makes me think of TV back when things were analog. There was definitely shaking then.

As for the HDMI cable, it's usually something that works or doesn't. If it doesn't, you'll either lose all of your picture (black screen) or have very noticeable noise/artifacts. My guess is your cable is sufficient for everything 4k @ 30 Hz and below; you should definitely test if everything is smooth and consistent for 4k @ 60 Hz.

I've had my Vizio M65 for a week now and it's a really nice display but man do I miss the pop and wow factor of the KS8000! This leads me to my question. When it comes to deep black levels, if you're going to add biased lighting to the back of a KS8000 in a darkroom, will that pretty much iliminate the need for a P65 that has fald? In other words, does the P65 with fald, only benefit over the 65KS8000 if the room is completely dark with no ambient lighting?

Question about Blu-Ray 4K Upscaling - Should I let the TV or Blu-Ray do the upscaling?

*Background info - I have an Oppo 103 (regarded as top notch in PQ and upscaling due to the onboard QDEO Marvell chip). In my current configuration, the Oppo is going into my Denon AVR which then feeds into the OCB. Because my AVR is not 4K compatible, I cannot set the Oppo to upscale to 4K, I get an error message that the video signal is not supported - which makes sense. So it is sending the 1080p signal through the AVR to the OCB and the TV upscales it.

I did think to plug the Oppo directly into the OCB, but wasn't sure how to route the audio as the OCB cannot pass the Dolby/DTS TrueHD signals. I'm realizing that the Oppo has 2 HDMI outs, so 1 could go directly into the OCB allowing the Oppo to output a 4K signal, and the HDMI 2 could pass the audio directly to the AVR- although I'm not sure how to tell the TV to play audio through the AVR for that specific source.

Does any of this make sense, am I overthinking this, should I just leave it the way it is and let the TV continue to upscale? I'm just so curious to see if there's an increase in PQ when watching Blu-Rays, although it's rather good now. Thanks

I'm coming from a plasma too with inky blacks. The blacks on these TVs are deep. It's not a concern at all. As far as Dolby Vision, there isn't much content with it right now, as everything seems to be rolling up to HDR-10.

Hardly a scientific answer but, as these two sets were my 'finalists,' I would argue that the answer is YES to your question.

The impression I got -- seemingly confirmed by the answers that the team at rtings.com would give to this basic query -- is that with no ambient lighting, the P-series is better than the KS. But if there is any ambient lighting (including, I would imagine, bias lighting), the KS is the superior performer.

They are both pretty nice sets though. I went with the KS because the misses doesn't like to watch in a completely dark room during the day -- "sunlight is good!," she says -- so I needed the brighter TV. Also, the Sammy's ability to control additional gadgets seamlessly (thus far ) adds to the WAF.

My KS8000 comes tomorrow morning.

What should my first steps be? Anything to look out for?

I also need a good UHD to buy

Thanks
You need to set TV's input to the HDMI the Oppo is connected to. Before, when you watched BD, you had TV's input set to the HDMI your AVR is connected to. You then set the AVR input also to the HDMI your Oppo is connected to for audio.

Every research I have done in eventually buying the KS800D says the 9000 isn't worth that much more for barely noticeable improvement.
