They both meet the specs set forth by Samsung, but you should always purchase which one looks good to you.

Lowering the backlight is the solution here right?

That does seem to be an issue with this TV (some are worse than others).

Yes, lowering the "Backlight" will help. Also, make sure you have "Smart LED" turned ON.

Does anyone have any information regarding the screen dimming on the KS8000?

During scene transitions where they fade to black and especially during the start of a movie with all of the warnings, the screen will go completely black almost like it powers on and then "fades" back in. It's quick but very noticeable. It's almost as if there's an eco setting turned on that dims the screen when there is nothing on it but all of the eco settings are disabled. I've also disabled Smart LED.

I noticed a similar situation where if you don't have HDMI devices powered on and go to the Home menu, the menu is dimmed even though all of the backlight settings and everything is identical.

Is this is a glitch? Is this working as intended? Ideally I want my screen to stay uniform the entire time I'm watching. The fading, going black, dimming, etc. is really distracting.

Your TV is working as intended by the manufacturer. I would re activate smart LED, if I were you.

Cheers

Does anybody know if this fix is for the 8500 as well? I'm bout to pull the trigger on an 8500 and this is very important to me.

I ended up picking up the 60" version of the set yesterday. Picture looks great however I'm curious on how you know if you are watching HDR material or not. I turned on HDR+ and UHD color for each input however when I go into Netflix there is no indication that the titles are in HDR despite me knowing they support HDR.

So how prevalent does excessive light bleeding along the bottom and tops of the set seem to be? I really like the set otherwise and might exchange it for the same one but I'm nervous that I'll end up with the similar amounts of light bleed. I don't want to exchange it more than once and I'll feel really bad if I end up exchanging it once and then returning the set altogether. Any advice? Should I just stick with the set I have if I'm going to keep a KS8000? My other option is to go for a Vizio P or jump up to an LG OLED C6.

Picture size for 4:3

Hi all,

Just picked this TV up last night and kinda frustrated...

I tried watching Stargate sg1 a 4:3 show on Amazon video and this first time it showed original picture size.

Now it stretches the picture, and the picture size setting says this function is not available. Can't get it back to original

Any thoughts? Love the TV but this is very annoying!!

Thanks

There is a know issue with amazon app resizing the screen resolution. I don't have Amazon so can't comment. However if you look back in the thread (or do a search) you will see a number of posts about it.

Hello All ,

I've just purchased 49 inch KS8500 , connecting to my pc to use as monitor.

My GFX card is 980gtx , Titan X Pascal is on the way

Anyways, the issue is under Nvidia control Panel when I select YCBCR444 or RGB - FULL , my game mode becomes unselectable.

Only Standard and Dynamic picture modes are active ( no movie , natural ) . Is this normal ?

But when I select YCBCR420 , all modes get active and selectable.

Thanks in advance , best regards

HDR+ is a "hack" so I would turn that off. That setting is intended for content without HDR to simulate HDR.

I don't use Netflix but playing a UHD Blu-ray, you'll get an alert at the top of the screen saying that the content was detected. It's pretty noticeable. If you can find a daytime scene, it should basically look like real life. It should be brighter in certain areas such as the sun or bright lights whereas without HDR, everything is a uniform contrast.

Consider your timeline for returning the product. There may be an adjustment that works for you. Maybe let King Richard see some pictures. I was disappointed with mine, not for the same reason, but eventually, through this forum, kept working with it and now it is perfect. Seems reasonable that there could be enough bleeding that it ruins the experience. Post some pictures. I think everyone would chime in. You can also use those picture when you return it if you do.

My 65-inch KS8000 was delivered today. With a big crack right down the middle of the screen. Refused delivery. Replacement scheduled for delivery next Thursday. Heartbroken.

Upscale? Yes.

The quality will not be as good as a true UHD signal.

That's appalling. But at least you checked it. Imagine if you hadn't! In 5 days' time you'll have a great TV hopefully.

I wouldn't call HDR+ a hack! Its faux HDR but I think for good quality HD sources it works very well. Personal preference of course.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new here. However, I was looking into getting the KS8000 for use with the PS4 PRO/ HDR gaming content. Can HDR be enabled while in game mode? I've been hearing conflicting reports about some people saying its possible now, or that it's not possible. Wanted to check in with more experienced people, I didn't see anything in the FAQ pertaining to it.

This question gets asked a lot; I'll add it to the FAQ later today. Yes, HDR can be enabled in game mode with the latest firmware update (at least it has been verified by HDTVtest).

Because I can not edit my message above ,

Ok, I've found the solution to my question , but now a new one occurs :

When I select PC as my input ( the other choices are hdmi , game console , blu ray player etc. ) I can only select standard and dynamic modes ( no game mod ).

If I select other choices on the list , game mode can be activated.

I am confused here , everyone tells , writes that we should play pc games with game mode on , but If I select PC as my input , samsung 8500 tv does not allow me to do so .

So, what should I be doing ? PC mode without game mode , or just like RTINGS tells movie mode and activating game mode ( during their calibration ).

thanks a lot in advance

When you do finally get game mode working, let us know if you get any weird stuttering when trying to do anything on your computer (even just moving the mouse around on your desktop). It would happen ever few seconds for me.

I wasn't crazy about PC mode because it has significantly higher lag.
