Ah I forgot we use the OCB for HDMI. Yea it's possible they could release an updated one with new HDMI and hopefully just give us a firmware upgrade to support it. I guess that's another benefit of the OCB aside from being able to neatly organize wires

Oh I definitely knew the risks. It's just our sets already have HDR so a firmware upgrade ( or just a new OCB ) is all we should need. Hopefully Samsung comes through!

Do you have turned on UHD HDMI Color? If yes try turning it off.

BTW, i hate Game Mode but what to do...games are looking much better when I'm not using Game Mode. Colors are more vibrant, everything looks better. I think I'll use Game Mode only in multi-player modes/games and for SP I'm turning OFF Game Mode.

Firmware Update 1140

Just was updated to Firmware 1140.7 . Noticed the favorite channels are no longer on the home screen . HDR remains the same, only available in Standard and Movie modes.

65 is either Samsung FA01 or AOU AA02, same as the 55

I'm happy to report the new one is about on par with the first one so I'm leaving it at that and this is what I'm keeping. First one was a little better.

I'd be really surprised if they needed a new HDMI hardware just for dynamic metadata. The actual metadata required for HDR must be pretty compact, basically a LUT or set of parameters that would be in a relatively small block of text. A per-scene HDR meta update would be a few kilobytes at most. Even if it were frame-by-frame, which HDR10 will apparently support, the data increase would be really minor. I could see needing a hardware upgrade if there was a more significant increase in bandwidth, but dynamic metadata alone shouldn't really be the thing that requires more bandwidth or new hardware.

Maybe I'm also missing the point of dynamic metadata a bit...having done DaVinci color work and compositing on film and tv productions, we're always grading on a scene-by-scene and shot-by-shot basis. If a movie is properly graded, wouldn't it all fit within a static 10-bit HDR LUT just fine? Given that someone still has to generate the dynamic metadata per-shot or per-scene, why not just bake that into the images themselves so that the whole movie is evenly graded?

In this article they mentioned that it helps with dark scenes:

http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php...&id=1463138030

You know what also helps with dark scenes, grading the production properly in the first place.

Quite right. ~15Mbps vs ~80Mbps using the same codec. It's pretty obvious what's going to be better. And remember, that 80Mbps is only a few % of the original uncompressed picture, so the more bits the better.

60 inch or 55 inch?

Hello,

I'm currently on the fence right now trying to decide between the 55KS8000 or the 60KS8000. I've read a few Reddit threads saying that the 60inch goes through a different manufacturing process and is lower quality. I've also read on Rtings.com that the 60inch has a narrower viewing angle.

I wanted to gauge this community to help with my decision. I've been waiting for the 55 to drop in price but it looks like the 60 inch just dropped to $1500, which is only $200 more than the 55 inch.

What do you guys think? is the 55inch a the better way to go or should I pull the trigger on the 60inch?

Wondering the same thing. 65 is a little too rich for my blood and 55" is too small for my room.

The only videos I can find of the 60" are spanish and its dubbed a 7000 series wherever the guy is from. The blooming and light leaks looked really bad.

The 7000 is the European equivalent model. Please check the "Samsung 2016 TVs" link in my sig. It's made all the mode confusing because Samsung have re-used numbers for completely different TVs in different markets, but I've colour coded them.

I have no complaints with blooming, bleed, dead pixels, or anything like that personally. I'm surprised there are so many posts on the subject, unless the quality control in America really is that bad!

Yours is a 55", from what I understand its the 60" that is more of a concern.

I'm reading all the posts...guys HDR is working in Game Mode if you of course have Xbox One S and HDR capable games. Is working also in Movie and Standard mode.

I think Deus Ex also has HDR features on regular PS4. I'm waiting for PS4 Pro.

One question for you Xbox One S owners...do you have different settings for Gaming Mode when playing regular games and for the Gaming Mode when you are playing HDR games?

Look at when anything bright comes on the screen, in particular when the HUD's show up on the right and left side of the screen.

Second video at 12 min is what I am referring to. I currently have a 65" Vizio M series and the blacks are great. I just find that my 720p cable looks very washed out, almost like there's a haze to the screen.

I too have experienced this issue on my PS4 two times during the first week when I purchased the set. (Only happened in Overwatch for some reason) However, in my case, I noticed that it only happened seconds after I switched game mode on (after watching a movie). I assumed it was some processing left over from switching modes, but I'm guessing it could be another issue? I also have multiple consoles connected, and this particular error only occurs on the PS4. Wondering if more people with this issue could chime in? So far, it has only happend twice, so it's not very common.

Waiting for sales coming up for the holidays, it looks like the 55KS8000 will find a new home, in my home. My TV stand is now large enough to accommodate the leg distance, one piece of wood, some nails and a little drilling, voila.

yea .. i called square trade before buying it. They told me yes amazon the tv has to be bought from them. secondly costco can be from any authorised retailer. They tried to offer me 30 off their price but was still 189 for 3 extra years. so i went to coscos site purchased the 3 year warrenty for tvs over a 1000[ Thats their top tier-good up to 5999 for tvs]. square trade sent me a email and i had to email back a reciept. for 94 dollars-5 for non member- it is now a 4 year waarenty. Still shows costco on their site but will call them next week to have them change store, not sure if they change purchase retailor of if its for purchase of contract, but overall they did state to me that costco covers all authorized retaliors.
