Amazon are confusing with their 4K shows. The show will be listed twice - one is the standard HD and the other is UHD. I found it difficult to find the UHD second season of MITHC. The HD was front and centre and Season One of the UHD was at the end of the list of UHD titles. Took me a while to notice that when I was in UHD Season 1 at the top of the screen it said 'Seasons'. Selecting this led me to UHD Season 2!

The HDR is impressive but I do find interior scenes a little dark.

Much simpler with Netflix. It just shows 4K version if recognises you have 4K.

Season 1 is full 4k HDR here in the UK. I've read that Season 2 was not HDR, but that's wrong, it is HDR too.

I watched the first episode last week and it looks great.

I suspect the problem is that Amazon's interface is so bad. They treat "the 4k version" as a completely different title: you have to search separately, find it separately, watch it separately, etc. Instead of what they should do - have more than one version of each thing.
Ie "The Man In The High Castle", in Amazon's eyes, is a different series to "The Man In The High Castle [Ultra HD]"

Edit: Blenky beat me to it! I was busy taking a picture

I'm not sure if they've hidden the HDR version extraordinarily well, or if it isn't available yet for all international Prime users. Scrolled through the interface again, did a separate search for the show, and only found the 1080p non-HDR version.

What are you all using to clean the screen surface?

I have something that transferred from when the surface was touched with skin yesterday and they don't seem to want to come off with just the included microfiber cloth.

Is this OK to use here:

Their interface is not something you'd expect from such a huge company, let's put it that way. It's a disgrace.

From "Home" I have a "4K Ultra HD TV" section, and it's in there. But I did read that it required a huge amount of scrolling down to find it, before that section was created.
And a search never finds it.

Previously covered in this thread. Use the search feature.

I believe that the Monster product is as good as any, but overpriced, like most of their products.

So what is the best search or method to find the HDR Man in the High Castle on Amazon? They really need to update to something like Netflix uses.

Input labeling issues

We have two Directv boxes hooked up to our KS8000 (55 inch). For some weird reason, I can't get them both to appear on the Smart Hub bar. Also, I tried renaming them (my wife prefers the Directivo, and it's an argument I can't win). So I have a Genie Gen 2 and my wife has her Directivo DVR.

For whatever reason, the TV will not let me put them both on the SmartHub, I even tried renaming them with our names so she can get hers easily, but it keeps getting bumped off the SmartHub lineup. Oddest thing is if I add hers to the Home list, and then change to mine using the source function, mine ends up in the space on the Smart Hub. Well, my name ends up there, but it defaults to HDMI 1, which is the input her Tivo is connected to.

Very confusing. Also when I tried to take the custom names off the inputs, I delete them but they keep showing up on the Smart Hub layout.

I'm good with letting her Tivo be the only one on the smart hub panel, and using the voice command for source to switch to my Genie. But it's an extra step. Anyone have any thoughts on why the input situation is so flaky? I am pretty good with gear, and I am following logical steps. I know when something is not responding as it seems designed to do. But I could be wrong. It's running FW 1154, I believe (had a recent update).

Any ideas would be welcomed. I tried switching my Genie to Input 1 and hers to Input 2, but same results.

Otherwise my set seems okay, have had it almost two weeks. I did get lucky yesterday as BB reduced the price from $1,199 to $999 (I paid the former) and they gave me the $200 price match discount since it was within the 15-day return period. I have my 50-inch Panny in for a new power board, so I do have backup if this panel turns out to suck and Samsung hears from my attorney (my wife, haha).

Content in HDR viewing mode (streaming netflix app from built in OS) is auto-dimming significantly...is this normal? Picture mode is dynamic, backlight is set to 20, and all eco functions have been turned off but the video image is much darker than the menu's or any other non HDR content. Streaming 4k HDR content via youtube does not result in the same local dimming, only when the message appears "An HDR video is playing". Is there a way to make all HDR content equally bright? Are the youtube demo's not actual HDR video?

Seems odd...

Hi,
I just received my 65" KS8500 ordered through Samsung EPP yesterday. While I am generally pleased with the set, I am observing clouding when a bright text appears on an otherwise dark background for eg: During the final moments of introduction credits in The Man in the High Castle. (Attached). Is this acceptable for the set? Or should I go through the trouble of exchanging the set? If it matters, the settings I used were more or less similar to rtings/CNET settings.

Also I do have question about picture modes. Pardon me if it has been already asked before but I tried to search in the thread but its really really tough to find the answer in such a huge thread.
Can I create multiple picture modes for SDR day/night, HDR day/night settings? If yes, how?
If I use say Movie mode and don't enable HDR+ and start playing Amazon/Netflix HDR enabled shows, will the tv change my settings?
Apologies but I just want to know how the TV will chose correct settings based on SDR or HDR content.

That looks pretty bad to me. If it bothers you enough to go thru the hassle then do it. If your ok with it then don't. I would, there is a couple spots that seems it has no black at all in your pic. try turning off smart LED and see if that helps.

Ah, there's your problem!

HDR works in Game, Movie and Standard modes ONLY.

If you are in Dynamic, Natural, or Sport and feed the TV HDR, you will NOT get HDR. Whacking up the backlight to 20 won't trick the TV into doing it :-)

Unless you're playing a computer game which is a special case, always try to view your HDR content in Movie or Standard with Warm2 (or warm1 if you can't get used to it after a few days) Colour Tone.

Ok first, HDR+ is nothing to do with this - that's a special mode to fake HDR-like effects with an SDR picture. For the moment, forget about HDR+ completely.

Now back to your question. Movie and Standard both switch into a "HDR" set of values when playing HDR, so you get to save your "SDR" values as well as your "HDR" values in each of those picture modes.

Yes, the TV switches settings automatically from "SDR" values to "HDR" values when it detects the HDR signal.

If it's coming from HDMI, you will also see THIS "sun and moon" icon and message:

NB: this doesn't apply to USB, or internal apps which choose for themselves what to do. Amazon video is nice and gives the message, other apps like YouTube don't. It's up to the app developer.

As Movie and Standard are also very similar, you can use them as "day" and "night" modes.

for example, personally, my Backlight, Contrast, Auto Motion Plus, Gamma, Smart LED, Dynamic Contrast are:
SDR at "night" targeting 120 nits* - Movie: 5, 85, Auto, -1, Low, Off
HDR at "night" targeting 1000 nits* - Movie: 14, 100, Off, 0, High, Low
(I'm using Movie as my "night" mode)

and for my "Day", I'm using Standard:
SDR during "day" targeting 300 nits* - Standard: 16, 85, Auto, 1, Low, Off
HDR during "day" targeting 1350 nits* - Standard: 20, 100, Off, 0, High, Low

Spoiler!

Honestly mate, which part of "The response last time still applies to your questions today" wasn't clear?

No it isn't changed, what I said in that post was very clear, it was correct then and still is today. I've just re-read it.

One more time, as it's Xmas:
  1. If you have firmware 1152 or later, you have VP9 Profile 2 support in your TV. If you don't, forget it. Game over. Get the firmware.
  2. The YouTube App, which has not changed since April 2016, automatically plays the HDR videos if you have the firmware 1152 or later. This is because YouTube HDR needs VP9 Profile 2 to work. If you have the firmware, it works. If you don't, it doesn't.
  3. There is no new YouTube App, even though were are all desperate for one, because it's chock full of bugs like the overlapping text problem.

That's it. Just like all other HDR video content, you obviously need to be in "Movie" or "Standard" for it to display.

One more time, as it's Xmas:
  1. If you have firmware 1152 or later, you have VP9 Profile 2 support in your TV. If you don't, forget it. Get the firmware.

[/QUOTE]

Thanks. Really appreciated.
How do I enter different values for SDR and HDR in a single mode? If I change Movie mode settings while watching HDR content, will it become the new *HDR* value and persist next time I watch HDR content?

Hi all,

A quick question if i may. I recently just purchased the KS8000 and an Anthem MRX 520.

So far, everything has worked perfectly.

I do have one question about CEC though.

I have set the KS8000 to CEC and the Anthem to CEC. I am using ARC.

The KS8000 remote can turn off everything when turning the TV off.

It will not turn the Anthem MRX 520 ON however.

Should I be able to have the MRX 520 turn ON with the TV as well?

Not a big deal, but would like to know.

Thanks,

You're welcome. Yes that's how it works. Just press pause on some HDR.
The default will put Movie Backlight to 20, so it's really obvious when it's happening.
Press "stop" to switch back to SDR values.

For some reason, I'm having trouble passing thru 5.1 surround to my system. Using regular ps4. Games output in 5.1 fine, but not Blu-ray using same ps4.

Ps4 is connected straight to TV via HDMI for HDR gaming. Sound bar is connected to TV via HDMI ARC.

Info on the inside leg positions for the 60" for anyone interested:

Holes for legs on bottom of TV are about 36 1/2 inches.
The resting point of the legs are 41 inches apart.

Tried searching the thread but haven't found an answer to what should be a simple fix with 1 day old 8500. How do you disable the voice interaction feedback voice? 2nd day with TV, didn't notice the annoying and constant voice feedback yesterday. Any kind of command and also she interrupts programming to constantly remind me that I am using Time Warner and HDMI. I have gone into expert setting and have turned off voice interaction feedback but she is still giving feedback. I have powered off after setting to off and the settings stay @"off" I also have gone into privacy settings etc. to disable voice recognition and all that good stuff. Can anyone tell me what I'm not doing to keep the lady silent while I learn my new TV?
