I hate that there's always random new apps being installed that I can't remove. I don't want Deezer or UFC etc on there.

AMEN!! I asked the Samsung tech guy if those could go away? He said no they are necessary for other apps to function properly. Then there was a moment of silence and then we both laughed. But I said again, I want them gone, I'll never use them. He said they pay big money to be in your face. Which I knew already, but just wanted to try.

I'm not a huge fan of the remote that came with the ks8000. I've tried to like it for a few months but I prefer standard remotes. I was looking online and came across the Samsung BN59-01054. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge as to if this remote will work with the tv and all it's functions? I did concider a harmony but I really don't think I need something that controls a bunch of things. I'm just looking for quick and simple.

Not sure about that one but if you look at the BN59-01247A this is what is supplied with the UK model (in addition to the "smart" remote which you and I don't like).
NB: It's not a smart remote - it can't control anything else except the TV. But there are buttons for everything instead of having to press 3 or 4 things to get to things.

ps. It can also be used to get into the service menu, of course. Try doing THAT with the so-called Smart remote

I run an IE window, a Chrome window, a 1080 JRiver window and an excel window on a 4K desktop.

Windows Media Center at 4K is not going to look better than running WMC at 1080P and letting the TV upscale. Especially if you are viewing compressed cable content. The very best image from a PC comes from running 4K with MadVR as the renderer and a powerful Nvidia card at minimum a 1050ti, preferably faster. You can configure JRiver to use MadVR for live tv (not in WMC). This won't work for protected content though. Letting MadVR render at 1080P, then letting the TV upscale to 4K produces excellent results and a 950/1050 class card gets the job done nicely.
Thanks for the info.
I record a lot, so I'll need the DVR in WMC because it shares to my other TVs (all VMs or nettops running WMC). I don't mind running 1920x1080 and using WMC. It looks fine, but I'm also wondering if there's a way I can run 4K when using Kodi. I'd hate to have to change the res all the time... is that what I'd have to do when switching between WMC and Kodi?

I have a question on the free HBO Now Samsung promotion for Samsung KS TVs bought at Whole sale clubs like Costco. Perhaps someone here has gone through the cancellation process and would know the answer to my question:

I submitted my request for the free 9 months of HBO Now. It was approved and Samsung Promotions sent me a HBO Now code. I now have to sign up for HBO Now through the Samsung TV ap and then use the code when I finish the process on some Samsung checkout site.

The instructions state that you have to sign up with a credit or debit card so that you can be charged when the free period ends. It states that you have to cancel before a billing cycle to avoid being charged for the next cycle. It then states, "Cancelation of the subscription will stop service before the next billing cycle and the subscription will stay valid until the end of the current cycle. "

Since Cycles are monthly period I am not sure if that means my subscription would end the next month after cancellation or if it would last through the whole free period of my subscription. I assume the whole 9 months but from the quote, in the instructions, I could see it being either way.

Basically what I want to do, is sign up, get my free nine months, then immediately cancel so I do not have to worry about being billed in 9 months in case I forget about it but I am concerned that if I do that, my subscription might end the next month, and I would lose all the rest of the months I was supposed to get free.

I sent an email to Samsung PayonTV that handles the billing for HBO Now but I am not sure how fast they will respond nor if the language barrier would produce a reliable answer (I can envision the agent just replying with one word, "yes" to my question.) So I want to check if anyone here went through the submission and early cancellation process and therefore knows from experience how it would work:

Has anyone here done it and then cancelled early and therefore know how it would work as far as how much of your subscription you get after cancelling early?

The Samsung light option does not turn off the red light. There might be another way, but I do not know of one. You could put black electrical tape over it (the light seems small so it would just take a small piece of tape to cover it or you place some object in front of it.

Lightdims would be a better option than tape.

Guys can anyone help with my problem with this tv and the weird crackling sound it keeps making intermittently while having it switched on? Noise seems to have gotten worse over the last week and happening more often and louder. I've tried isolating the issue - disconnected all leads from tv except the cord from the one connect box, updated to latest firmware, reset to factory settings etc
no joy

Connecting 5th HDMI device (Nintendo Switch)

I tried setting up smarthub again, but it didn't work. I struggled for an hour trying different things and finally I pulled the plug for the TV. I waited for a minute and plugged it back in. Ran smarthub setup again and everything works now!

If I press home on the Switch, it will change to HDMI 4 on the TV and to the correct input on my AVR. If I choose another input on the TV it will change my AVR input to TV and I have audio.

Tldr; Try power cycling the TV if you are having ARC issues post Switch.

I just ordered a Switch and was wondering what would be the best input setup for it (I don't have it yet). Like you, all 4 of my HDMI ports are in use (1: Cable; 2: Blu-Ray; 3: Xbox One; 4: ARC to amp). I figured I'd just connect the Switch to the amp and hope for the best. Are there other configurations I should consider? Thanks in advance to anyone with some insight on this. I hope I'm not raising well-covered ground but I couldn't find any clear answers via search of this massive thread.

After that was completed it took a few WEEKS to have the Samsung checkout website not error every time I tried. All good now.
Hi, did you ever try to cancel your HBO Now? I am trying to figure out if you will get all the free months if you cancel early or if you will just get the rest of the month in which you cancel. The instructions on canceling are somewhat misleading on that point.

Cary, I just bought the single for my KS 8500 and it's more than bright enough. Just throwing that out there for ya, if you find the quad to be too bright. By the way, you're gonna love thier bias light kit.

I am such a nerd. I am home alone and I wanted to re-aim the west-facing (I have two) antenna in the attic to pick up the PBS channel better, so I brought up the signal strength screen on the TiVo, pointed my Mac camera at it, made a FaceTime call from the Mac to my iPad (so I could see the signal meter on the TV), went up in the attic with the iPad, and aimed the antenna. I used the TiVo app on the iPad to change channels on the TiVo, so I could check the signal on all the stations. LOL.

Hey everyone! So I received my 55'' KS8000 on Thursday, and I've been busy at work, but at night I've been setting it up and everything in my room. Just dropping in to give a recap on the TV itself. It's an "aao1" panel. When setting it up, I didn't notice the back panel coming apart not even the slightest, everything is firm and placed for now. I did my tweaks for calibration was going through content and everything worked seamless and smooth. I notice very minor backlight bleeding on the bottom right edge and bottom left edge. Aside from that, I the TV hardwired and Netflix, Amazon, & YouTube look amazing from the apps I've tried on the TV. HDR content is set for its own calibration like Marco Polo and everything else that isn't HDR is set for its own calibration. I uploaded a picture of my set, and I also uploaded 2 pictures of Marco Polo showing off 4K and HDR, just the first scenes I came across. Then I uploaded 2 pictures of Secret Life of Pets. Just let me know what you guys think! Pictures were taken from my iPhone 7!

True, the single row of lights can get really bright. But with the Quad promo, you're getting 3x the system for almost the same price as the single. Per my correspondence with Jason (founder of the company), they'll be selling extra remotes and USB/switch combos for people who want to break apart the larger set.
