Was this related to any firmware release? I have noticed this set has a horrible motion stutter from day one, regardless of settings and source material. Is this something they can repair and is it worth contacting them over?

Not sure but I would imagine it was either firmware or something just went bad. I have done another update since but it did not help. I originally noticed it when I first got the Sony X800 player and it was very jarring and noticeable. I thought it was the player and swapped it only to have the second do it too.

At the time I did not notice it on any other source including my One S and regular Sony blu player. Never noticed it with the K8500 either(moved to the Sony when 3 died with the blinking red light, otherwise they worked great). Sony support told me not to use a surge protector so I redid all of my power management, bought all new certified HDMI cables, tried bypassing the AVR, tried all HDMI ports on the connect box, turned off AMP, and tried different settings on the player. NOTHING worked so in end I ended up swapping out 5 Sony players before I decided to go back to give another K8500 a try figuring my TV just did not like something about the X800 even though other KS owners have and love it. I ultimately decided to give the new M9500 a try since it was new at the time.

Eventually started noticing it on all sources and then the M9500 too. Have no idea why it was only noticeable on the X800 at first or what went wrong and when. Waiting to hear back from Samsung being its the weekend but on a side note the M9500 is a fantastic player.

I really wanted to love and keep the Sony cause all of my other players in the house are Sony and have been great but other than build quality I personally think it is actually better than the Sony. PQ is just as sharp and detailed but the colors really pop more giving the image more of a 3D feeling to me. Not sure if its just how it happens to work with a Samsung TV but I have no regrets not going back to the Sony once I found out it was the TV with the problem. It has Netflix, Amazon and Youtube in 4K HDR and 24p with DD+ and a rumor it may soon support VUDU UHD. I sold my Roku Ultra to cover the difference in price since I will finally have an all in one device.

Back on track though I hope it is any easy fix like a new one connect box and cord or something. Everything else with the TV has been almost perfect(notice about 5 dead pixels pop up but very close to the edge and hard to find only 1 foot away from the TV).

how to check panel version?

Hello,

SO i know one way to check panel version is to look at the sticker that says type but its covered up on my box with another sticker that when you pull off leaves sticky residue that blocks out the letters (makes it feel deliberately hidden). So is there another way?

I suspect that my 50" Sammy DLP's color wheel is in it's last year. SOMEthing in that box that spins is grinding. After 8 years I think it's time to accept the inevitable...soo...

Has anyone had any +/- experiences with Walmart's refurbished KS8000 55"ers? I've had good luck with other refurbished electronics (my refurb'd Nikon D610 has been great) so I'm not inherently against going that route.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Can someone tell me, when using the ks8000 as my pc monitor, should I put the hdmi black level to auto, low, or normal?

With it on auto the blacks look crushed and I notice some dark details missing, but with it to normal the blacks aren't crushed but it has kind of a gray filter over the picture compared to auto.

Wondering same thing myself lol. I know one guy in here has one and it was great on day one but after a month or two it developed stuck pixels, he was gonna update when he received the new one. I dont think the KS series is necessarily built to last given the form factor, if you are gonna buy this refurb i would probably add extended warranty, but at that point you are nearing new prices and you might as well get one at costco.

A general Samsung product rant!

What is Samsung's fascination with having us unplug their devices to do a hard reset? I just had to do one on my washer because it wasn't doing the final spin cycle. Which made it impossible to dry soaking wet clothes On the flip side and more on topic. TV still delivers a fantastic picture despite these hoops we're expected to jump through

He said there is a label covering the label with the panel version listed on his box.
Once the TV is opened there will be a label on the TV itself that will have the info.

Your panel version is also located on the back of the television where the One Connect Box cord plugs into the tv. Hope that helps. Make sure to check out the Owners PDF (See my signature) or go to the first post, first page. Lots of useful information that @Terminader put together with some of the other owners.

I'm getting really frustrated with this 65KS8000, this tv is so smart it's dumb (why Samsung..?).

The initial setup where it should sense the signal and determine what the source is never works with my pc yet every time I switch sources via AVR (and back to pc) it then detects the pc and changes over to pc mode even though that is not what I have it set at.
I am using a single input on the breakout box (not ARC) and simply want the single input to stay put (hold settings) regardless of the source that I feed it through the AVR, this is the first display I have seen that makes this simple task something more complicated. I have tried with HDMI-CEC off and on.

If HDR should have backlight at 20 and Smart LED at high why does this not automatically switch when it detects an HDR signal.

Also when I have to set the TV's settings back to Game after it sets them to PC I have to turn game mode off and then back on but only after switching from PC/Game Console/Blu Ray Player and back (it's as if it resets everything).

I cannot imagine that everyone using a single breakout box input via AVR just deals with this type of issue so I am wondering if this is possibly a defect in my particular unit?
This is on firmware 1168 via the internal online method, I am tempted to try the newer downloadable firmware but see that it may have other issues.
I am honestly shocked that this caliber of (such a well regarded) display has issues so late in its life cycle (now discontinued), one would think the bugs would be ironed out by now.
I scanned through the AVS pdf and did not see this issue mentioned. I'd hate to return this unit as we enjoy the great image but I am not going to mess with these settings every time I turn it on or change sources.

Thank you for any insight, much appreciated.

I've been using a 55HU7500 (8500 in the US) for the past 3,5 years with which I'm very happy. It has been working overtime all these years, and its unfortunately starting to show 'fatigue' issues - there's a yellowing on the upper center part of the screen which I believe might be related to the heat emanating from the chipset (it uses a fan!). My problem is, the entertainment center I use can accomodate a TV with a max length of 136cm and a few mm. So I'm limited to 60" as the maximum TV size I can buy... And it seems that 2016 was the last year that 60 inch models were available.

The UN60KS8000 (or UE60KS7000 as it is known here in Europe) seems like the best solution to this conundrum. 55 inches is fine, but bigger is always better. However, while this model is still in stock here in Greece, I'm weary of the various issues I have read up online. Specifically the panel separation issue (which is purely cosmetic, and something I could perhaps live with) and the severe backlight bleed at the bottom, where the leds are...

So my question is, are there 60" KS8/7000 owners out there who are happy with their sets with regards to these two points? Is it worth getting or should I hold out for something better in the 60" range, or is that panel size dead and done?
I have no problems with my 60". light bleed is fine and incredible picture.

They are just regular old OEM high speed cables. You can get a premium Monoprice 18gbps HDMI for about $3.99

HDR only affects those settings automatically in Movie and Standard Modes. In those modes, backlight and contrast will, indeed, be set to their maximum values. And, these "HDR/Movie" and "HDR/Standard" modes will retain their settings for any time they see an HDR source. (Regular settings will return when you agian play an SDR source.) In "HDR/Game" mode you do have to set them each time.

There is nothing in the manual about HDR, at all, but many folks here believe that HDR is only engaged in Movie, Standard and Game modes; and that you do have to manually adjust HDR/Game each time an HDR game is played.

These are awesome TVs, though, and if you can still get one at close out prices they are my recommendation to anyone shopping for a new TV set.

Color banding UN65KS800D (8000) Samsung UHD

I am used to a Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro panel, and dont recall seeing this stuff.

Now I have a couple new Samsung UHD panels, and both do severe color banding as per below image i found on the google machine...This occurs mostly on internet source (Roku or Samsung apps like Netflix, HBO GO) or directv and not on my blu ray.

I have reduced the background setting to 5, changed it to standard setting, etc. The more I reduce the brightness of the picture the more it seems to fade, the problem, but it is still there no matter how dark I make the picture and I of course dont want a dark picture, one of the reasons I got these sets vs the Pioneer Kuro is contrast or brightness, the plasma were quite dark. Also wanted UHD, obviously.

Are Sony's as bad as these Samsung's? I even read elsewhere or here maybe that the LG OLED do this also.

What can be done? It isnt a flaw in the manufacture, right? I mean not fixable by Samsung, so to speak?

I mostly see it in black backgrounds like night scenes but am seeing it also on other colors like blue. Please at least tell me this is normal, per se. Not just me? Cant be, right?

Check out the KS8000 owner's thread. There is a detailed FAQ, and you can use the "Search this thread" device in the upper right corner above Post #1. Search for banding.

I'm tempted to upgrade from the regular PS4 to a Pro, but all the horror stories I'm reading about people having flickering issues with the KS8000/PS4 pro combo has me still holding onto the the regular PS4, which works perfectly fine with no flickering issues at all.

I am sitting at 1168 on my firmware and have seen zero flickering. The KS8500 actually looks sharper with a Uhd signal either Blu-ray or Pro game than my X900E.
I have been completely satisfied (minus my first one with dead led zone) with the Pro/XB1S performance.

Agreed, you can still find the KS8000 /KS8500 at Best buy 55" fairly easy. You'll have to do a little foot work, because they won't list them on their site in some cases.
I prefer the KS8500 to my X900E in almost every way.

What is your source for the image? It looks like banding.
With some content I have seen this, but mostly in gaming and it seems to be a per game issue.

I see this for instance on HBO GO on my TV apps or ROKU, when there is a night scene. I also see it on my DIRECTV for the same show, like "The Leftovers" on HBO, but it is on all black scenes on BOTH the internet sourcing like Roku or apps AND on the same show on Directv.

If I watch a blu ray, no problems with this.

Help me search this forum or thread for "banding" as someone suggested, when I put it in the eyeglass box and search I get this thread all 800 pages. How exactly do I do that?

Thanks, I dont see "search this thread", we are in the thread you are recommending, right? The 8000 owners thread? I see a magnifying glass, as in search box.

If you see it on some sources (internet and satellite) but not on Blu-Ray, then the issue is with the source material. Your display is fine, it is simply displaying what it is asked to display.
joe75xp and King Richard like this.

To anyone interested in a Google Chromebox or Chromebook..
Be aware that these boxes run a variant of Linux and DO NOT support HDCP!!!
This means no support for HD on most streaming services. I wish I would have known this beforehand....

I agree and this makes sense. Having been used to a Pioneer Elite Kuro, and having never seen this before, I am now alarmed at how bad this is. The KURO had no apps of course, but i had my ROKU attached, and never saw this.

I assume most others see the same thing when they are on their Roku or DTV?

I have speeds of 100mbps over 10mbps on my internet and a very good signals from DTV, so while it is the source material it cant be my access to them, right?

So this is a known issue that most others deal with, right?

I am still trying to find "search this thread" so I can find fixes here.
