Smart LED should not be set to high for normal content. Not sure where you came up with that but it's incorrect advice.

As limited as the "local" dimming is on this display I use it to help maximize contrast even on SDR. It can improve highlights and help also with black level performance.

Just had a 55" KS8000 installed. only hooked up to cable. This morning I noticed the Tv picture dimms alot automatically. When I go into menu and hit brightness or something it pops back to normal. then it does it again after a few seconds. Is it because its on standard mode ( energy saver mode)? Last night everything looked great. so not sure what is happening.

In "HDR/Game" mode you do have to set them each time.

There is nothing in the manual about HDR, at all, but many folks here believe that HDR is only engaged in Movie, Standard and Game modes; and that you do have to manually adjust HDR/Game each time an HDR game is played.

These are awesome TVs, though, and if you can still get one at close out prices they are my recommendation to anyone shopping for a new TV set.

Thanks for the feedback, I guess I can deal with the HDR settings issue (in game mode) but my other source switching/detection issue is truly ridiculous for a display of this caliber (especially considering how long these units have been on the market).

Maybe it's just better to return it and save myself the headache, hate to see it go since it does have a great image and we paid about half of what they still sell for (makes me wish my primary use was not the pc as the other sources seem to be fine... PS4 Pro, Xbox One S, WiiU, Blu-Ray player, OTA hd tuner/dvr).

Thanks again,
- Jason

It's a screen with a scrollbar on the right side. Every dialogue box in the entire Smart TV interface is the same: you use the up/down arrows on the remote to scroll from page 1 to page 2, etc.

You probably didn't realise there was more than just the text that appears initially. This isn't your fault, it's because the scrollbars are almost invisible (a classic case of "form over function" with a graphics designer slapping themselves on the back thinking they've done a good job), and they only fade up to white while you're scrolling and then they fade away again.

But what is 100% certain is that there are two pages of information, and you didn't press "down" to see the 2nd page which contains both MAC addresses (one for Ethernet, one for WiFi).

In this age of snazzy designers getting rewarded for this - for producing interfaces which aren't intuitive - we all need to learn to just try pressing buttons to see what happens. The days of being able to rely on what is shown on screen or what is clearly obvious, are long gone unfortunately. Otherwise you won't find half of the functions. Sad but true.

Go into Menu/system/eco and turn all the energy savings to off.

I've done this on my 8500 and still see Dimming from time to time. Almost as if there is an auto brightness nice that reads the room and adjusts accordingly.

Yes, we are. My bad, I clicked in the "Active Topics" column to the far right to see your post and mistakenly thought you'd started a new thread. Look in the dark bar just above the first post on each page. There you'll see the "Search This Thread" selection.

Hey, I also use my pc on this display all my time using it cept gaming on console. It's forcing PC because it knows it's being sent a pure pc signal , RGB 4:4:4:4 8 bit color. You can turn it off by CEC to off on everything including the receiver you're using but that just creates more issues like receiver not auto going to tv audio when you want netflix or youtube.

It forces pc cause it KNOWS only a pc can send that signal. So when I go to ps4 pro or xbox one s I go scroll up after switching on receiver to correct input then on tv I pick game console. I just prefer to do it this way as other way just creates other issues with CEC off.

Well, after about a week of fiddling with my ks8000 I think I'm going to return it .

Don't know if I just had bad luck with the panel lottery or not but whenever I tried watching movies (after setting up my picture and tuning everything) I had very noticeable light bleeding on the bottom, like a row going across the bottom in like a band across it and then each corner was slightly bigger with the light. It made any dark scene look light compared to the top half of the tv and the right side had really noticeable light going down it if even a tiny thing was illuminated on that side (didn't happen on the left side).

Think I'm going to just opt for an the b6 oled even if I have to move to 55" and pay slightly more.

The HDR/brightness was nice, especially for bright scenes, but the black/night scenes were just too much for me.

thanks, I will check it out tonight. blew my mind this morning when I turned it on. looked like someone threw a thin blanket over the screen. Funny thing is last night when it was on, it was fine. How could samsung possibly think that anyone would want this to happen as they are viewing the Tv.

Good point but that's not the color format that I am sending, I have been an AV/PC enthusiast for 20+ years so I am not unaware.

Also as I stated... with the initial set-up the 65KS8000 does not auto detect the pc (even if I do it over and over), it's only when I switch sources on the AVR or sometimes at random that it actually detects it as pc.

I have assigned the single input that I use as a "game console" and tried to unify the source signals (nothing is sending RGB) specifically to avoid these issues and to make proper calibration more unified (the KS8000 simply does not care and does whatever it wants). What would be great is if Samsung simply offered us a way to disable this auto detection so that those that know how to set this gear up properly could bypass that 'feature'.

Part 2: Why is color Volume Important ?

Hey my friends, it’s me again.

I just wanted to let you know that I finally finished the second part of my Color Volume article – which is post #2 in my “What is Color Volume?” thread. If you haven’t done so already, I would like to invite you to first read the first part of my article – which is post #1 in that thread.

>LINK: What is Color Volume ?<

I also made further improvements to the first part (post #1 ) of my article, adding more information, including more pics and illustrations. I also added a lengthy Quote from professional colorist Stephen Nakamura to the HDR section.

Stephen Nakamura is a colorist with "Company 3" in LA, who has worked with really high profile directors and cinematographers and knows more about HDR than most people. He has graded in HDR movies like Exodus: Gods and Kings (the first ever movie to be HDR graded); Tomorrowland (Disney’s first HDR grade and a movie made for the format); The Martian; and Joy.

Click the LINK above, or in my signature below, to go to the article.

I hope you like it, thank you!

That is probably a perfect surrounding for bias lighting as the light will only go a few inches around the TV and will stay uniform around the TV without spreading farther.

Exactly my thoughts as well. I bought some controllable led lights, so I'll check those out first. If they don't work well I'll but some of the lights people have been talking about in this thread.

How much room between the TV and the back wall? If 6+ inches you could maybe just use a single 6500K small bulb back there. It would lit that area easily - only concern would be if it made too much heat. Or you could get a single 6500K LED source.

Hi. Quick question....I just bought a new Onkyo TX-RZ810 receiver. When I switch the HDMI UHD Color to "on", on the TV, I do not receive audio while watching cable TV. Video is fine, just no audio.

I've tried a million different connections but nothing resolves the issue.

As soon as I turn it off, the audio resumes. Connection is HDMI ARC out from receiver into HDMI 4 ARC on connect mini box.

I'd like to use the one HDMI out connection from receiver because I have other UHD devices going in to receiver (UHD player, Roku 4k, Xbox One S, Fire TV 4k, etc.) It's just when watching cable TV that the audio is off.

Thanks.

so basically if I have it on standard mode ( with energy icon) than you are basically tuck with all the eco settings. When I put it on Natural mode- I get the soap opera effect ( anyone know what its called in the menu to shut it off?)
So I put it back on standard for now. I like the picture for the room its in ( kitchen-eating area). so far so good. Movie mode is too dark for the area. we'll see if starts timing agin tomorrow morning.

Auto motion plus is the SOE settings.
You can still use Standard setting and turn the eco settings off if you prefer the way it looks.

Hi all. I have had my 65" KS8000 since Thanksgiving, and for the first 4 months everything was fine. But recently it is driving me crazy. All of the colors, brightness and contrast are set perfectly for my liking but I don't know if it was a firmware update or if it is just me but the motion performance as gone down the tubes. Any motion seems to have an extreme lag or trail almost like the previous frame has not completely faded away before the next one is displayed. I have other Samsung LCDs all over my house and this one is just the worst. The funny thing is it was the best up until recently. I don't use any of the dam apps on this TV I just use it as a monitor essentially. Has any of the recent updates screwed with the motion performance of the TV? I have Auto Motion Plus off and when I try to enable it to fix what I am seeing it only gets worse. I don't know what to do watching this TV is giving me a headache lately with all of the laggy frame rate. I watch cable over my TiVo which outputs 60i. And AppleTV with is sending mainly 24p over 60p. 4k Blurays sending native 24p don't seem to display the same effects. So it is almost like the cadence detection is screwed up. I honestly don't know what else to change, everything is just a burry mess right now. Any suggestions?

I as of today began to notice something similar on mine. I was on the PSN store and the ads were trail significantly, so I tested the Order:1886 and the shadow detail began to smear a yellowish/purple color.

I messed with it for awhile and the issue seemed to correct itself. My viewing room is usually pretty cold, so I assume maybe the screen itself is cold and merely needed to warm up.

It has corrected itself for now, but will keep an eye out.
I am currently running firmware 1168.
