No pic quality difference but I do have a separate setting for HDR in Game mode. If I am on my Xbox home screen it says UHD in the top right corner for the picture details, once the game starts playing it says HDR UHD and my brightness jumps up.

Mine updated yesterday afternoon and I played a little Master Chief Collection last night. I did a quick look on Netflix after I saw your post and didn't notice any degradation in the picture @LonestarROB . What were you watching that you noticed this in? You know my set up by now, no cable on mine. Audio seems to have improved @lmartinijr1 . Didn't seem to have to crank things up with Netflix or YouTube, but that could be my imagination.

I think you might be mistaken there about the two settings for Game mode. The Samsung engineers have only said that they are planning to add it, and given us dates in October and November for the rollout of that new feature. (It is a new feature, not a "fix").

Greetings all.

I have spent a lot of time searching the AVS Guide and this thread before asking for this help in my quest to lock the settings for my KS8000 OSD and Universal Remote to simultaneously control my Marantz SR7010 AVR and Xfinity DVR. I set it up using the Universal Remote settings and all goes well. However, if I switch the AVR to Media Player (for my Asus Kodi box) and come back to the the OSD it has changed the input selection to PC. I can no longer control the DVR channels (or the AVR volume, depending on the day).

I'm using a single cable to HDMI4 and have the ARC and TV Audio thing figured out pretty well but this other glitch is driving me nuts! Apologies if I've missed it elsewhere but this thread is a wee bit dense right now. Am I SoL?

Thx, jasn

I'm sitting here wishing my TV was capable of 4,000 or 10,000 nits, and you guys are turning your wonderful LED TV into an OLED with poorer blacks? I know everyone is different, but I'm sorry to say, I just don't get it.

However, for those of you who are doing this, maybe try leaving Backlight at or near 20 and setting Smart LED to Low. I think you'll have better results as far as black levels and blooming.
What is everyone watching that is so bright? I've yet to experience any HDR content on my TV that I felt was super bright.

I haven't seen any HDR that was particularly bright for extended shots. However, Ghost in the Shell is a mostly dark film (in my opinion), but one scene with bright tasers is pretty blinding for me. The fact that my eyes are adjusted for darkness and then the bright lights suddenly appear is what makes it somewhat painful. While intense, it ultimately takes me out of the moment.

That said, I don't personally feel the need to turn down my backlight.

LOL, the only time I've been blinded is when I was playing Halo 3 and one of the Brutes threw a flair in my general direction. I do try playing on the Game mode, but as I said in a earlier post. I think my eyes have grown accustom to movie mode. It felt a little bright using the default mode, which is why I ask what everyone had their game mode dialed in at and haven't heard a peep. Still, I haven't seen anything that is burning out my eyes like a Nazi in Raiders of the Lost Ark in my viewing

Watched Multiple sources/channels. For the record, it's not BAD. I just seem to see more artifacting, juddering etc.. instances during different programs and such.

There are two separate SDR and HDR settings for game mode, the problem is that the TV doesn't currently auto switch between the two as it should. If I turn on my Xbox One it defaults to SDR mode and I can see the backlight is at 5, once I start a HDR source the TV switches to HDR mode, with the backlight at 20, but then the TV will not switch back to SDR mode after I turn off the HDR source. It's "stuck" in HDR mode if you will.

The future firmware will fix this issue and the TV will switch back and forth between SDR and HDR as it does in the other modes, such as Movie.

I don't think you are in Game mode in both cases. I've seen the effect you mention in the HDR+ "special viewing mode" - this mode does have two sets of settings and it does also get stuck for me.

But Game mode does not yet have two sets of settings. If you have two sets of settings in Game mode, you are the only person in almost 30,000 posts who has it Also if Game mode did have two sets of settings, this thread would be 15,000 posts instead of 30,000!

So my receiver got a Dolby vision and HLG update today.

Any word if the ks8000 is getting either of these anytime soon?

If so, I'll need the OPPO 203, right?

I believe that it does HLG already, at least through its USB. ports. (That's based on exactly one test with a downloaded file.)

It will probably never do DV, because of Samsung's marketing choices. (They're pushing HDR10+, which has no license fee to Dolby. It's unclear whether the KS sets will ever get a firmware update to support that, or whether it's even possible.)

The LG UP970 player does DV, with a recent firmware upgrade. I don't know about HLG. (Are there any major sources of that yet?)

I don’t use HDR+ mode at all, as I know it’s adding a fake effect to the source. I don’t have my Xbox anymore, as I sold it to preorder my Xbox One X, otherwise I’d take a pic of the settings for you. Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but regardless it’s getting fixed soon either way.

It's had HLG support since firmare 1165 in February 2017. Based on multiple USB files, and also multiple YouTube-HLG clips. (YouTube supports both HDR10 and HLG).

There aren't any major sources of HLG yet for its main purpose (live broadcasting, it doesn't need metadata). There have been test broadcasts, and content such as the BBC's "Planet Earth 2" UHD Blu-ray disc was converted to HDR10 from the HLG master. So we already know that it looks good

On the contrary, it's one of the most clear things - the 2016 models definitely will get a firmware upgrade to support HDR10Plus. It has been a hot discussion for the last 12 months and is a cornerstone of the deal between Samsung and Amazon Prime Video.
The only point of doubt is whether it'll be streaming only for our TVs, or whether we will also get HDR10Plus-over-HDMI . That too has been the subject of much discussion, please read >>THIS THREAD<< .

Wake On LAN

I just received the 1203 update. All the sudden the Wake on LAN feature no longer works. I used it to turn my TV on.

Has anyone else also experienced this? Is there a fix to get the WOL back?

Thanks

I have auto update turned off and I still got a pop up telling me that an update (1203) was available. I could choose to update now or update later when the TV is turned off. I never got this pop up before.

Anyone who really cares about the progress of hdr10+ should have that link bookmarked/followed. I do not post on that thread because I have nothing informative to add to it. But it is a wealth of infomation and in the past month very positive developments for our 2016 sets regarding 2.0!

Input switching issue

Hey all - first post here. I've tried to read as much of this nearly 1000 page thread as possible to see if the issue I'm having with my KS8500 (65", Costco variety) has been encountered by anyone else, and thus far have come up empty. I'm noticing two distinct issues, both seem to be maybe CEC / HDMI handshake related, but are very frustrating.

1) When turning on the TV via the home button my 4K Fire TV, occasionally I will have no sound (maybe every 3rd or 4th time) until I switch HDMI inputs and switch back to the Fire TV. I've tried changing HDMI input ports, new HDMI cables, and even switching out the 4K Fire TV for the one in my basement, and the issue persists.

2) When consuming HDR content via my XBox One S, when I switch back to my 4th Gen Apple TV (and prior to it, Roku Premiere +), the screen will flash black every couple of seconds, and the 'up' arrow on the remote 'seems' like it is being pressed (in that the cursor keeps moving up an icon with each screen flash). Again, I've tried two different devices, different HDMI ports, and replacing the HDMI cable and the issue persists.

Additional troubleshooting steps I've taken including factory resets of all of the aforementioned devices, resetting the Samsung Smart Hub, and even a full factory reset of the TV itself. My TV was just updated to the 1203 firmware via automatic updates, however this issue has been ongoing for at least two months (was on 1180 prior to earlier this week)

I'm just trying to cover all of my basis before I contact Samsung, and was hoping maybe someone on here would have a recommendation of something else I can try. I feel like I've exhausted most of the basic TV troubleshooting techniques I'm aware of, but I'm all ears if it means not sitting on the phone for hours on end with Samsung.

Thanks in advance!

This has been mentioned as happening by a few other owners with earlier firmware updates. Perhaps Samsung considers this a "mandatory" update and thus overrode your auto-update settings...

Try a reset. Hold the power button on the remote continuously until the TV shuts off then comes back on again and you see the SAMSUNG SUHD logo. Or unplug the TV while it is on, press the remote power button until the red LED on the lower right edge of the TV stops flashing, wait a couple of minutes, then plug the set back in. These TVs seem to occasionally need a reset after a firmware update to clear everything out of memory.

While not exactly the same issue, I think I had somewhat similar issues espeically with my Roku Ultra when it was set to display HDR. I would go to the Roku and not be pressing any buttons one the home screen and it would bump to another setting or app. Usually the app that was right above it on the page. It wouldn't activate the app, just flip to it. When I went into Roku settings and set it at 4K without HDR capability the issue would just go away. I was using HDMI cables that were supposed to be HDR capable and rated at 18mps. I solved the issue by buying the HDMI cables at Monoprice that have been recommended here (27040 Essentials Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cable, HDR, 6ft Black). Since that time I have replaced my AVR and am running the Roku through a Denon S720. I have replaced all my HDMI cables with the before mentioned Monoprice and all of the devices are now working fine.

I think the One Connect is very sensitive. It still does things that aggravate me like renaming hardware. But that is superficial and easily corrected. And hopefully it will "learn" to stop changing the name of the hardware eventually.

I have also had the no sound issue when switching inputs plugged into the one connect. I usually solve this by rebooting the device or the receiver.

Stick with it. My KS800D is also from Costco. I could not be much more happy with it, even with the quirky puzzles it has presented me with.

Now that you mention it, I did notice the same thing on my Roku Premier +, if I turned it to 4K only and not HDR, the issue went away. Puzzling why the Apple TV would do that, as it's not even 4K - but you perhaps raise a good point with the HDMI cables. I am presently using Amazon Basics HDMI (newest variety), as I understood those were rated pretty solid, however maybe I should order some from monoprice to see what happens. Also, the only HDMI cable that hasn't yet been replaced is the one for the XBox One S (just using the one Microsoft ships with it). Now I'm beginning to wonder if that may be what is causing the issue and if I shouldn't replace it.

Overall I'm very happy with the TV, been using it for nearly a year now (purchased around last Thanksgiving). I'd love it if I could get the 4K Fire TV to work without issue, as we've gone exclusively to DirecTV Now for our tv consumption, and the Apple TV remote is a bear to scroll through the guide with/I'm constantly changing channels on accident with the swipe left/right. However, as of now Wife acceptance factor dictates the use of the Apple TV, since as long as I don't go from XBox -> Apple TV input, it works fine, and generally speaking I'm the only one using the XBox.

Welcome! This first one does sound like a CEC handshake issue. Try the tips in this post . If you don't have an AVR, still follow the same sequence of powering the devices, but miss out the AVR step

Another troubleshooting option is to reintroduce the device to the OCB. Sounds like you did that when changing HDMI ports, but also try Sources....Universal Remote to see if it helps.
