Questions I have:

1: Enhanced Mode HDMI setting. Does it hurt to turn this to Enhanced if you're not plugging in a 4K content source? I have Comcast X1 cable box and apple tv 4th gen right now as sources.
I too came from a Vizio M and am much happier with this set. As for your question when I had non 4K sources set to enhanced it elevated black levels. I would only set sources capable of HDR to enhanced.

If this doesn't workout I was thinking about getting the 65" sony Z, but it's cost $1000 more than the 75" 940d.
I've watched a few games on the TV, and I didn't notice any issue with smearing. I'm using Jerry's settings.

Has anyone had any issues with the 1080i signal DirecTV uses for a majority of their broadcasts? I just got the 940D a few days ago and when watching DirecTV, the picture just looks a bit grainy and the colors don't seem to have that pop effect you would expect on a tv on this caliber.

The 3 pairs don't work with the 5th TV, either.

Has anyone had problems where their glasses just won't pair, even though you're doing everything right? I'm trying to troubleshoot this today and tomorrow, because I have until Monday to exchange the set (#6... woohoo...). Is there any way I can test things on the TV to determine why these glasses wouldn't be working?

I took a look, and BT is turned on, which the glasses need, there's a 3D signal being registered by the TV (notice shows on screen, and in menu), but the glasses just won't work.
Did you try turning bluetooth on the the TV off and then back on? Also, have you tried re-booting the TV and trying the pairing process again? I had to re-boot my TV to get the glasses to pair successfully.

So as of today, for no apparent reason, the XB1S will not flip the TV into HDR mode. Don't know what happened.

Almost over this TV.

I had the same experience with the Samsung UHD 8500 player. When I first got it playing an HDR blu-ray or watching Amazon HDR content would switch the TV to HDR mode, but now I have to do it manually. No idea what changed. I guess I could try rebooting the TV/player and see if that resets something, one of those things where I'm banging my head trying to figure out what I changed (and it is probably nothing, just the flakey HDMI handshaking protocol, bug in the TV or player or something).

Good morning, anyone see the Stanford, ND game in 4K on DIRECTV 106?
I'm not a fan of either, but the picture was amazing, see the lines/scratches on the helmets, wow!
Switched back to MLB game in 720p was ....very nice but not like the football.
I hope more sports are scheduled in 4K , this is the TV for it!

Well, I have decided that I'll be purchasing a 940D rather than a Z9D; although the Z9D is clearly superior, it's not twice the price superior by any means. I will be purchasing around the end of November, when I get home.

Does anybody forsee another price drop in that time frame?

I HDR on/off, switched the TV input Auto mode off/on and switched the Enhanced setting on and off.

Finally, I unplugged the TV for a min and plugged it back in.

And HDR came back. So it's definitely the TV.

Could you tell more about how to switch the HDR manually?

I ran the TV on Vivid while trying to resolve this and if I'm not mistaken, it could just be me, but VIVID look brighter than HDR once HDR came back.

Just go to Picture Adjustments and change the Picture mode to HDR (have to scroll way down past the game mode, etc.).

Confirmed. I just did a reboot of the TV (holding down power button for 10 seconds) and went to watch Goliath and it switched to HDR automatically.

So, the Sony TV gets confused and loses the ability every once in a while.

I got my 940D only about a week before Sony announced the Z9D so I didn't really have a choice in the matter. I have been extremely happy with my 940D, which I have had for two and a half months. I suppose the Z9D is superior to the 940D in some ways but, as you noted, it is significant'y more expensive. Bottom line: my 940D is the best TV I have ever owned, by far. I know some "Golden Eyed" posters have posted criticisms of the 940D, reporting smearing, light bleed, and other unpleasant artifacts. I certainly will not contradict those posters but I haven't seen the problems that have bothered them.

The Android TV OS has long had a reputation for instability. I understand it was really bad on last years models early on but that software updates have improved it markedly. I have just learned to live with the need to clear occasional glitches, such as a refusal to switch into HDR mode, by doing a reboot. Fortunately being able to just hold down the 940D's power button until the reboot starts is easy and relatively fast.

Hello,

Has anyone had issues with their HDMI ports not working? Sony has now replaced two of my TV's and at first all ports work fine. Twelve hours later I turn the TV back on and I keep getting a No Signal error on all ports. Sony is going to replace the TV yet again but I'm starting to think there is an issue with the android OS. I have spent hours resetting the tv and troubleshooting with no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Yeah...just turned off my XB1S and the TV rebooted.

There's some major glitches here.

Hey Adam, this is the 1st time that I have seen this mentioned on here. You had 2 sets that had HDMI port issues? Have you tried different hdmi cables? Hope you get this straightened out!

Last night I had a very strange thing happen. I put on the force awakens, and this is a movie I've seen many times before so know what it looks like. Right off the bat the star field in the beginning looked terrible, with the clouding showing up all over the place and the black bars had immense amounts of light leaking through. It almost looked like the local dimming had sort of stopped working properly. I tried rebooting the set, which didn't help. Then I did a factory reset and that didn't help. Then this morning I pulled the plug and left it off for about 10 minutes. Attaching a few pictures (with the usual caveat about smartphone pictures of these sets).

Anyone else noticed anything like this? I'm going to retry tonight once it's dark enough to see how it looks after pulling the power.

I forgot to state my observations. I don't see any "clouding" in my pics like you had, nor is there any real light leakage. Having said that, the "black bars" are far from "pitch black," but I recall that once the movie gets under way they become pitch black in nearly every scene.

I have no idea what's causing your clouding issue...let us know if you do figure it out.

Another pic just a few seconds later. Again, no clouding and the "black bars" are getting darker.

I've been reading all over the place about the "smearing". Getting a refund on my 930D due to horrific clouding and almost pulled the trigger on the 940 but then I read this forum. Someone stated that Sony claimed it was a software issue, could a firmware update really fix this?

I really hope they do, and gosh google need to fix this android clunky ass TV OS they have, and I was hoping that you can do DCC on this tv from calman with this kind of price you paid on the tv , but then again i'm just being picky.

If you are going to use a picture that I posted, I would use the last one. It is LARGER than the other two and it really shows the lack of clouding. Also, I was impressed (in that picture) with the lack of "halos." People that are bashing the 940D always point to the "halo issue" and they especially point to shots like this with white lettering against a black background. This pic looked pretty good to these eyes.

The smearing isn't a software issue, if it was all sets with the same firmware would exhibit approx the same amount of smearing and that certainly isn't the case, the set I had previous to the one I've got now had very little smearing to the point it wasn't an issue, the one I have now is on the same firmware and the smearing is horrendous. I suspect they are using 2 different panels and the ones without smearing are using the better panel and those that have smearing are using the cheaper panel. Can't prove that and it may well be hogwash but something odd is going on..

Yup, tried those things - no-go. I went to BB today and arraigned for my 6th TV to come, hopefully later this week.
