As it was explained to me by DirecTV, the HR54 can receive the 4K content, but can't stream it to the TV. In my case, they moved the HR54 to my bedroom and put the 4K mini on my main TV (940D). It may be worth a call to them to discuss your situation and options. It's possible that we are missing a setting somewhere that is causing the poor picture quality with the HR54. I assure you, I did not change any settings after the receiver swap and it was dramatically better.
I have the Sony XBR75X940D in one room with the mini connected. The main Genie HR54 is in another room connected to a different TV, and two other minis connected to two different TVs. This one Genie and three minis, all of which have the capability of getting 4K and showing whatever is recorded. Not sure as to your issue, but he system does do what it is supposed to do. If you have a specific capability question, I will try to answer as I have had this up and running for a few months without problem.

I'm not having an issue anymore. Before I had the 4K mini on my 940D, the 1080i content from the HR54 was soft and flat, not sharp at all. With the HR54 now in my bedroom and the 4K mini on the 940, the 1080i content is very sharp and looks as I would expect it to on this awesome TV. The system works as it's supposed to.

After all my claims that I never see smearing/blurring I must confess that I finally saw it last night, albeit briefly. While watching my BD of the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert, I briefly saw some blurring and smearing of the faces of performers who were quickly moving laterally across the stage. The good news is that this phenomenon lasted only a few seconds. The rest of the video was perfect, as has been everything else I have watched on my 940D. The bottom line, it seems to me, is that I consider what I saw to have been so minor, my high opinion of my 940D is undiminished.

Can you post all the settings or are those there in your post calibration picture?

it's in post calibration, you'll have to enable Local Dimming (Medium), Motion Flow (Custom, Smoothness 3, Clearness Min), Cinemotion Off or High depend on your jittering.

Every TV Display is different, so if the color looks off don't use mine, if your display is similar to mind then you're in luck . Gamma is at 2.4 for this setting with Gamma on -1 if you keep Gamma at 0 my screen DeltaE for lower side of RGB will be above 3.

Is the Phillips BDP7501 the current best DVD player for our TV? Is there a reason to wait for another to come out or just buy this one?

Yes, if I understand the question.
GTX1060 here, GTX950 before that.
Enhanced HDMI + Graphics mode = perfect 4:4:4 4K @ 60hz.

Also, changed picture setting last night from "Game" to "HDR" and played Forza Horizon 3, it's like night and day--looks phenomenal in HDR picture setting. (HDMI set to enhanced to gtx 1080)

Hello,

Couple questions:

1: I may have missed it but has anyone had experience Dynamic range setting for the HDMI inputs? Looks like it's on Auto out of the box. Is there better expected viewing if set to full or limited? Guessing the source would need to be 4K?

2: I saw the post about HDR auto switching on / off and if you check it on some content it pauses and others it stops the video thus showing the picture mode not in HDR. Do you know if this is the same with YouTube 4KUDH / HDR videos? I don't think my TV ever has switched to HDR mode using the YouTupe tv app but it does in the Amazon tv app. Also, if I manually switch to HDR picture mode in YouTube during UHD/HDR video the picture is way better. (note I have consistent download speed range of over 90 -130 over wifi and 110-150 with all my hardwired devices which my 940d is hardwired so that shouldn't be an issue).

Thanks for the reply. I will give it a try tonight. Does your set report 1080p as native in the Nvidia control panel?

Can anyone tell me if this TV supports 1080p @ 120hz signal? If so are there any display anomalies in this mode?

4k @ 60Hz
4k @ 60Hz w/ 4:4:4
1080p @ 60Hz w/ 4:4:4
1080p @ 120Hz

1. Make sure you enable Enhanced HDMI for 4:4:4
2. 1080p/120Hz use Graphics or Game picture mode.

Size is a big deal indeed. I figured out that the superiority of a 65 inch OLED's PQ over a top of the line LCD set would be mostly invisible from my viewing distance, about 8.5'. When I said in the LG OLED thread that I had eliminated it from consideration because of its size and included a link to one of the many sites that explains why that is, they erupted. I made them all so unhappy, I apologized for having raised the issue in the first place and unsubscribed from the thread. The party line there seems to be that OLED is so wonderful, size doesn't matter, so there! That said, I am the first to concede that the OLED technology really is the best. I hope that LG and others can figure out a way to produce bigger OLED panels at affordable prices.

Question about HDR. I have heard that Jessica Jones, DareDevil, etc on netflix are in HDR.

How do I know it is playing in HDR when using the TV netflix app? It seems to stay on Cinema Home which is what I leave it on the most. Why doesn't it switch to HDR? When I switch it manually to HDR it doesn't look good or right....

when you play movies in HDR mode, you'll notice the tv flicker and everything will be brighter (you'll see it) or you can go to Action Menu and select Picture mode and you'll see it. you have to be streaming in 4k for HDR to kick in I believe.

I played around a bit more. It seems that DareDevil is HDR but Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are not. I was just misinformed about what ones were HDR. It is switching automatically!

Daredevil looks great! HDR really is amazing! I can't wait for more content!

Well, y'all will LOVE this.

About an hour ago my (less than 2 week old) 75Z9D went belly up!

Starting in the middle of the screen and going left there are five 2 1/2 inch vertical bars some of which flash on and off. Then to the left of that the entire screen is loaded with horizontal bars that are about a quarter of an inch wide with 1/8 inch darker horizontal bars in between them. (Farther to the left, inside all the horizontal bands are even more vertical bands.)

There must be a hundred of the vertical bands!

Now they're flashing, (the vertical bands).

Texted my Magnolia guy instantly. He sent the photo to the Sony rep, Sony rep called back, new set will be at my home Friday.

So NOW what?

First the KS9800 goes south, now this.

And yes... I have cold booted, changed inputs, changed channels, turned video processing on and off a hundred different ways, switched the 3060 in and out of the loop (as well as turned processing on and off in it) all to no avail.

Technology... Isn't it grand!

CHECK OUT MY POST in the OFFICIAL Soy XBR-65Z9D Owners Thread for photos I sent from my phone earlier.

^^^^^^^^

I had read your post earlier in the Z9D Thread, so I "sympathized with your misfortune."

Regarding your closing words, "Technology, isn't it grand!" Truer words were never spoken! It is "grand" until it isn't!! That's why we all have this strange "love/hate" relationship with it, for when it's working for us we're in A/V Nirvana....but when it crashes on us....well, that's when that feeling we call "hate" rears its ugly head.

At any rate, good luck with the replacement!

Tech support through their chat client told me the smearing issue would be fixed as well in this update. Hope they're telling the truth.

If you are trying to do this at 10 bit it isn't going to work because it's beyond the HDMI spec.
