I have the luxury of being able to flip over to off-the-air broadcasts. These broadcasts, with no compression, are absolutely stunning to watch.

Hi guys...setting up my new XBR-75x940d. Looking forward to putting in Jerry's settings (thank you!), as the out of the box picture is not too impressive yet. Can someone please tell me how to put letters in for the wifi code using the remote as I just see numbers on the remote? Also, I have the xifinity x1 box. I read that you should not have this box upscale but rather have the tv. What setting should the video be set to (720p?). Thank you to all for your help!

I think when you go to punch in your wifi password, it will bring a keyboard up on the screen. I have mine hardwired. You want to set your X1 to whatever the highest resolution is, and let the television handle the upscaling.

In Canada the MSRP of the KS9800 is $15,000. They've lost their mind, it's almost twice the price of the 940D!

When you get to the screen to set a password, an on-screen keyboard should be displayed, with which you enter the password by selecting a character and pressing the remote Select key. Is the on-screen keyboard not appearing?

I am not familiar with xfinity hardware. On a DirecTV device there is a selection called "Native", which turns off any up-conversion. If xfinity doesn't have a similar option, I am not sure any selection will be better than another, so I probably would choose 1080i or 1080p.

Need some advice or opinions please. I am debating on the Sony X940D TV and the Samsung KS9800. From everything I've read about the Sony seems very good. My only problem with it is the issue I keep see popping up in regards to the ARC not working. I'm upgrading my receiver to one that will handle 4K. So unless I know the ARC can work, I will have to go with the Samsung KS9800. I don't prefer to spend that much money but I must have the ARC function working. I've been a Samsung fan for quite some time but this Sony looks great and a lot cheaper price wise. Any thoughts or suggestions other than running fiber optic cable?

With the 77" OLED listing at $35,000 in Canada the Samsung still seems like a bargain -- however, I agree at nearly twice the price of the Sony, Samsung is not being competitive and no doubt will concede a lot of sales to Sony. Somehow Sony has been able to keep its pricing within reason.

Here's another take the 940D -- does John Archer write most of the English language television reviews?

He seems to have a monopoly on reviews at the moment, hdtvtest currently have one for review and their reviews are usually very thorough so looking forward to that one (it's the site David Mackenzie is associated with).

I pinged rtings again on a review and they were originally saying Summer, now they're saying Fall or not at all. Silly as this is possibly 2016's best LCD set..

But I understand it's significantly higher $$ than the 55s/65s they usually buy/test.

So, what is Sony's official MSRP for this set now?

Hope it's not against the rules to ask that since I'm not requesting dealer pricing.

It's unfortunate the 65 inch is not FALD as that's the largest size I can accommodate in the living room. Any ideas whether next year's models will be FALD? I am not really looking to buy until the fall/winter anyway.

Brent, you had asked what "Sony's official MSRP" was and I gave you the right price. Yes, Amazon is now selling it for 6K but they also list 8K as the MSRP (and thus they add that you save $2k if you buy from them). Just trying to be accurate!

see my post from here: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lc...late-july.html

there's some speculation of a new FALD set announcement in July. Tantamount to the X950A fall announcement

I also caught a whiff of this expectation earlier this year. Hope it's true and add to that newer media chips are coming off the assembly lines this Summer. Wanting a 75in.

Help me decide.

I was torn between the 930D and the Samsung Js9500.

I have all but decided on the 930D, when my wife saw the 940D.

Now I know the 940 is FALD and the 930D is Edge lit, but besides the 10 extra inches she likes, is there other justification for spending an extra $3k?

Also, comparing the js9500 to the 940D...this is also a $3k difference between the two FALD sets.

Tough choice between two great TVs.

I've tried out both ARC and S/PDIF for TV to AVR connection. My findings were that it is a function of every component in your chain and how you are using them. In my case I am using my AVR (Marantz SR6010) as an HDMI switch (35+ foot run from component rack to TV). Since I have only one HDMI connection from my AVR to the TV I turned on "enhanced mode" for this input (HDMI4/ARC input). This caused issues with my U-Verse STB as it would not send audio to the AVR. As soon as I turned off "enhanced mode" the audio would start working. I solved this by running both HDMI and S/PDIF from U-Verse to AVR. I also could not get ARC working properly without turning on Bravia Sync (not sure if I did something wrong) but this caused other undesirable effects with power on/off getting horribly confused and the set going "unresponsive" on me (I use a Harmony universal remote). What I ideally wanted was ARC on, but no CEC. I could not get this working reliably. I eventually gave up on ARC and switched to using S/PDIF output from the TV to my AVR.

Moral of the story, I've found that whether ARC works for you is not just a function of the TV, but more of your entire component chain and how you are using it. In some combinations it works flawlessly and others are tricker. S/PDIF out was a rock solid alternative for me because I use Harmony remotes and am not interested in any HDMI control functions. Hopefully this helps you.
