Since the recent update is anyone else noticing issues with the TV not remembering settings? Every time my TV starts up my audio output reverts from ARC First to Speakers.

I just called HiSense to confirm that these are the latest firmwares for the 50 and 55 H8 Series TVs. I posted mirrors on my site. If the download speeds are too slow let me know and I will update the links with OneDrive links.

Firmware Download and instructions for 50H8C and 55H8C: http://www.timothyhoogland.com/2016/...-50-55-models/

I have a password on the download links to prevent them from being hotlinked. The password is in the post but for the lazy it is just 'hisense'.

Xbox One S update received... Small update for Xbox One S and HDR - fixes a reported black level issue. HDR is great on Horizon 3, Gears, and more. Snag the update! #Xbox

My settings were retained with the update. I would recommend factory resetting the TV and if that doesn't work re-flash the firmware, then factory reset.

Hisense and some other sites have rumored that it is mid to late November.

Thank you! Reset the settings, switched the audio back to ARC and it appears to be sticking now.

Hey all. Great thread. I just updated my TV and the Xbox, and everything ticked off. I am getting that really dark HDR mode on Netflix HDR with Marco Polo. Also, I can't make the image actually sharp or the colors actually pop. It looks washed out and with brightness AND backlight at 100 (no idea what to make the other settings or contrast and color), it just doesn't look good.

Anyone want to share their best Xbone HDR Netflix settings (very specific), that would be awesome. Right now using Vivid, Brightness 100, Contrast 75, Color 75, and I'm getting banding and I'm getting lots of banding, and artifacts (all post processing is off).

Also does this persist with Forza? like it becomes dark all of a sudden in "HDR mode"? I just bought the game but after reading all of this and going through this Netflix thing, getting scared I have to keep changing the settings for everything I want to do. Been playing through master chief collection and it looks great on the Default Standard, no complaints, but if HDR is the future and our TV actually can utilize some it, I wanna use it. Thanks in advance guys!

I use rting's settings but with a cool temp. I thought that was best compared to everything else in this thread.

HDR gets very dark on Netflix, but it works normally with 4K UHD. X-Men looked great, and looks better now after the black level update. Could be a Netflix app issue.

Just pulled the trigger and picked up a 50 inch, was going back and forth between this and the Vizio P series, finally decided to give hisense a chance, coming from a top of the line Samsung from 2008 ,used to follow closely with tvs but have fallen off in the last 8 years to where I sold the Samsung and replaced it with a smaller cheap Samsung TV , have to say I'm really impressed with this tv, don't think I will have buyers remorse for not getting the P series, figure a year or 2 down the road once 4k and hdr get worked out I can look at a better set then
Tried vapors settings, a bit dull for me, seemed like a white sheet was layed across the screen, tried rtings with cool settings, whites were a bit too blue for me, rocking rtangs, with standard color pretty happy with those so far, I also found the stock standard not to bee that bad once I lowered back light and contrast , kept back light zones on even though rtings says to turn it off cause they don't add anything
Did all the updates and tried a few hdr samples over USB
For 500 bucks this is a nice peek into 4k and hdr

So no one had thoughts or impressions of the HDR? Using it on games, movies?

FH3 seems to have the best model for how to use it, with its adjustable HDR slider.

Its the only time I can tell HDR is in use, since the Tv doesn't directly tell you.

Anyone have thought?

HDR on Xbox 4K UHD = Awesome. X-Men Apocalypse looked beautiful. Rtings calibration standard color.
HDR on Xbox Netflix = Kinda Broken
HDR on Nvidia Shield Netflix = Somewhat broken. Once you change a setting the picture goes from dark to normal.

What else is using HDR aside games and movies at this point? Amazon doesn't look like it is.

I'll be waiting until Black Friday for FH3, as Forza games usually go for $25-35 that day every year.
GOW4 is on pre order though, gotta pick it up.

I'm going to pick up some movies to test it out this weekend. I've only played FH3 using HDR, and it is impressive. I will check out gears too. Amazing bang for the buck this TV is.

When you were watching xmen Apocalypse, did you switch back and forth between having HDR enabled and not?

What did you notice? Colors looking more vibrant with it on?

I thought so. Wasn't sure if there would be some difference in screen shots but for true effect it would have to be seen on HDR screen. I found some clips and put them on a USB to try out and it looks really good. There always seems to be some noise in darker images that I cany get rid of though. Anybody have this?

I ended up setting 4:2:2 and 12-bit output, which I think is the combination with the highest possible quality. With this setup, the chroma-subsampling test result looks like the reference image.
Rtings have updated their review with results from the new firmware. They adjusted a couple of the scores due to the new capabilities and added input lag results in HDR mode.

They also indicate that the improved chroma subsampling performance I mentioned requires that you use "game" mode.

Ahhh that rtings review is so helpful. The reason my Nvidia Shield didn't show 4:4:4 chroma is because it needs game mode. I won't leave game mode from now on.

I have not done the update yet but can someone clarify for me, for those of us without an XB1-S/Shield/etc, does the built in Netflix app now support HDR? I'm confused.

No the built in apps don't support HDR. Hopefully they get an update. I'm waiting for a ps4 pro so I can get my HDR on

At $69, the new Mi box seems like a good, inexpensive, option for streaming 4K/HDR. If I didn't already have the One S I'd probably grab one of those.

I saw this a few days ago. Think I'm get the ps4 pro and this and put the fire stick in the bedroom. To be honest the quality on the fire stick has looked bad on this TV.

Won't Update

I just got this tv and downloaded the new update 50H8C and it will splash the update screen real quick. I release the power and it goes to the normal start up. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure that "upgrade_loader.pkg"

Is the only thing on the usb. Not the entire file you downloaded.

Anyone plays gears 4?

I hear the HDR is balls to the wall.

Question just upgraded to the uhd Netflix package all the HDR content is super dark, I'm using Netflix on my Nvidia shield, is all the Netflix HDR content in DV,I've tried the content on amazon prime, not sure if it's HDR as there's no indication but it's brighter also done the free 2 minute preview on Vudu and it looks brighter also.
So is any of the Vudu or Amazon prime content HDR or only UHD, and is the darkness on the Netflix side cause its in dolby vision and our tvs only support HDR10, I know we don't have the brightest nitz I think it's called on these tvs so maybe that's it ,just wondering if Netflix I'd the only ones really pushing through HDR
Thanks in advance
