Firmware upgrade for 65H8C

Yesterday a firmware upgrade suddenly popped up on my 65H8C screen. Not sure what features or fixes have arrived. Bought my TV during a Best Buy sale February of 2017. Generally very happy with it, although I did have to return the first one due to a bright vertical line in the display that was there upon unboxing.

I turned the tv on 65cu6200 and the resolution stays at 720 no matter what device I use on that hdmi port

my tv has the beta HDR firmware g1220

the guy from hisense warranty tells me theres a new firmware that starts with H
they will contact me in 24 hours

I don't believe it cause I would have heard about this new firmware here
and im not getting my hopes up a firmware update is going to fix a bad hdmi port

anybody else had this problem with the hdmi port only displaying 720p? this is happening now on the second tv , the first one I didn't file a claim cause is a bedroom tv and I only needed 1 hdmi port so I just used the second port, this living room tv I need both 4k 60 ports

For the 65cu6200 tv
I’m not home to test this yet
But I’ll report back to see if the problem with the hdmi is fixed and if this update
Brings new software features
I already had the hdr beta update

Just a quick update on my 50H8C bought a few years ago.

HDR was underwhelming for the most part, it had issues with my Xbox One S and Netflix.
It was until I got the Denon X3400H, which fixed the HDR issue and HDR works great, looks gorgeous but still limited with the number of nits it can produce, but I can tell when HDR is on.
Also for my BR HDR rips, I'm using the Minix Neo U9, using libreelec and changed the settings to 10Bit 4:4:4, HDR works great and I can tell a difference.

Hope this helped someone that has HDR issues.

Overall, this TV was worth every penny after I got a better AVR, but it's about to retire...

I installed the new update h0117 to my 65cu2000 tv and to my surprise it did fix my hdmi problem

I don’t see any other new changes to the interface

So if you have this 65” tv contact hisense for the new update

Fixed netflix app streaming in 4k hdr and added hdr mode also which shows up when i use my xbox x. The HDR mode isn't visible when using my nvidia shield streaming 4k which is a big disappointment.. HDR mode was the major update from what hisence told me. I didn't get a direct answer what the input lag is in HDR mode when gaming compared to the game mode but it is visually better when playing on the xbox x.

Another update

I had an unrelated problem with the PS4 , I had to unplug the tv from power
After doing this the problem with the 720p only on the hdmi port came back

So I tried unplugging the tv again and that fixed it , I got 4k back in the hdmi port

So the firmware update did not fix this , it was restarting the tv that did it , not power on and off but unplugging the tv

I'm having similar issues with my xbox x . The hdr mode disappears and i have to reset the xbox or unplug the tv. Or in HDR mode the screen gets washed out and i have to switch to game mode or standard etc than back to HDR mode to fix it.

Unless someone has an update, the last time I spoke to Hisense, they said there is no plan on releasing another one.

For those doing warranty replacements, how do you convince Hisense CS to come and swap out the TV (as others have mentioned here)? I contacted them on May 31st and they only gave me the option of finding a box and mailing it to them. They also said they won't release the replacement until the old TV is received and verified, which they said can take a month. I know that some people here have mentioned that they have been able to get in-person, immediate replacement service done. Would rather not go without a TV for more than a month just for a warranty replacement.

Now that you have had the new firmware for some time what do you think of it?
Notice anything different?

The firmware update fixed a few issues, but caused some new ones as well. I can finally watch HDR content from Netflix on my Roku Ultra. Before the update, the picture was extremely dark, to the point where it was unwatchable. The new HDR picture setting provides a good picture. I think it's the best picture that this TV will make, given it's not so great peak brightness specs (compared to 2018 tv's).

On the negative side, the update causes new HDMI handshake issues. When the TV gets an HDR signal, the whole picture gets distorted. I have to switch inputs for the picture to go back to normal (sometimes multiple times). This occurs on my Roku Ultra and Samsung Ultra-HD Blu-ray player. It's a PIA that didn't exist before the update, but at this point, I just live with it.

Maybe one day I'll reach out to Hisense to see if they can do anything, but I won't be holding my breath.

I guess im not going to bother asking for the update.

Interesting! I'll have to check to see if I have the latest software on my 2017 65H8C+. The picture did look noticeably better last night from my TIVO 4k Bolt. I wonder what Hisense did to improve PQ.

Seems like the backlight is a bit more uniform after the update and the picture quality seems much improved

Just checked my firmware. I’m still on the old one but for some reason it is looking better. Hopefully I’ll see even more improvement once I get the update.

Wonder if they'll ever update the 2017 55H8C as I and many of us have one and would love some updated features like actually showing when HDR is playing. Tempting to get one of the other cheap sets with fald and better support for HDR but mine still looks great to me and 4 hdmi inputs and a 4 year warranty is nice though I doubt I'll ever need it.

50H8C. Owned for almost a year. No hope for updates. Patched in "HDR" is terrible. Under all seedlings it looks washed out and boosting back light makes dirty screen effect show more. Currently my color setting under Game Mode is art 100 and still lacks color. Might just have to spend the money and get a Vizio P series

Well, actually mine is a 2016 too as I got it right after the positive reviews for video quality vs money spent hit and some deals were happening. I still think it looks great but I'm sure HDR could be even better. Maybe I'll check out a TCL or something later when my taxes come back next year.

Has anyone been able to get a decent looking HDR picture on the 50H8C? I'm using a Shield TV and a certified 4k 60hz 4:4:4 HDR cable but there is no indication that HDR is enabled.

When I open an HDR video on either Prime or Netflix the image gets very cold and dim. As soon as I change the contrast or picture mode then the image gets very bright and washes out the highlights. The only fix is to back out of the video and then play it again. I've messed around with the picture settings but it just seems like the TV is not reading the metadata correctly or something.

HDR on my PC monitor (Acer ET322QK) hooked up to the Shield looks quite good. The brightness and colors generally does not change between HDR and non HDR. My calibration seems to work fine on both and the picture is basically the same as when the Shield is set to RGB (this disables HDR) but there is generally better detail and less grain/compression when HDR is enabled. It also clearly indicates when the signal is HDR.

I usually just custom set the picture settings in the HDR disks that don't look good and it helps a lot. It's been a great TV for what I paid but may upgrade to something newer that does a even better job now. I have the 55' version myself and still overall very happy with it as most of the time just watching 1080p cable and my Roku Ultra and it looks great with both. When I play you tube and other HDR files they usually looks really good and bright, no tweaking needed but would be nice to get a pop up saying HDR detected at first.

Does anyone know if these TVs have HLG HDR capabilities? I can't seem to find any specs for that but it seems almost all TVs with HDR 10 also have HLG. My understanding is that 4k HDR with DirecTV and maybe Dish is HLG.
