And I agree with Sheldon above too, the blacks are pretty good on this TV when it's working properly, for me that's probably 95% of the time. Surprisingly I havent had the upgrade itch whatsoever which I did with my previous 4 tvs.
Ray, I feel the same as you. I have absolutely no desire to buy a new TV right now. I don't see how you can get much better than the KS9800, that is when it's working correctly. Unfortunately, there are some bad KS9800's out there and we have heard about several of them in the last 18 months on this thread. I'm amazed at how good my picture looks even on cable TV sources. I'm definitely in no hurry to switch.

Based on the size and quality of the KS98, and the deal I got in the 88"er, I have a feeling I won't be upgrading to a new TV for years

Maybe when OLEDs are brighter, and an 88"+ can be had for $5k

Yes, for the first time since "HDR" came on the scene I am content with my home theater. It doesn't get better than the KS9800 playing 4K/HDR/Atmos/DTS:X for now. I particularly appreciate the brightness of this TV and hardly a day goes by that I don't say, "wow" when seeing one thing or another. It's also clear to me that the industry is struggling with format wars and anything out now will very soon be obsolete. I'm waiting until I see the balance that will come. I had the same sense when video went digital. Around the year 2000 I saw that it all finally worked together and bought into the technology. I'm waiting for a similar Gestalt before I'm back shopping for a new TV.

Since I updated to 1206.1 I cant watch mpchc +madvr 4k movies in hdr the pc always stays in hdr now and I already tried display uninstaller with fresh drivers and reset the smart hub. The computer is always in hdr mode now while watching it and all my hdr movies will now go to uhd instead of hdr is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I am starting to wander if this is related to the updated video card drviers as well

there's an issue with the latest nvidia drivers regarding compatibility with Madvr!
the last known working drivers version is 385.69.
madshi (the developer) is aware of that.and as I understand he has a direct route with nvidia people, but it will take a few updates before things sorted out.
for the moment you can go back to the above mentioned drivers if want!

Can’t update to 1206.1 from 1203

I am in Canada and update does not come automatic and I tried to update via USB and that does not work. In both cases I get a message that I have the latest firmware. Anyone able to update to 1206.1 in Canada yet?

Where are you downloading 1206.1 ??? I thought Canada, US & S.Korean panels are part of the same region for firmwares, and after checking the Korean website, it's still has 1203.6.

To get my ks9800 I had to take the source firmware in the folders out of the folders and delete everything else to have just that file on usb drive not the other folders that contain the file. Then it updated just fine. My tv has yet to pick a update up over the air. I’m in ny.

I thought I would share my settings This is all done by eye with uses of some calibration settings as well. I personally like it kinda bright to see things Feel free to adjust the back lighting as you wish.

Make sure under nvidia control panel
Display - Change Resolution use with the nvidia color settings
Output Color Depth 10bpc or 12bpc - I use 12 with my tv cause 10 doesn't work to well and is greyed out alot of times.
Output Color Format - YCbCr422 I can't use more than than this due to the limitations of something I am assuming the Hdmi cable bandwidth
Output Dynamic Range - Limited
Refresh Rate 30hz - I can't use more than than this due to the limitations of something I am assuming the Hdmi cable bandwidth
Video - Adjust video color setting Dynamic Ranger is with the nvidia settings Set to Full (0 - 255)
I am using a 35ft Mono Price Luxe Series CL3 Active High Speed HDMI Cable
Maximum Bandwidth: 18GBps
Maximum Resolution: [email protected]
Cable Thickness 7.5mm

If Anyone knows why I can't get 4k RGB (Full) or YCbCr444 to work with 10 or 12bpc with a 30hz or a 60hz refresh rate please let me know cause I just get no signal

Samsung 950 Pro Nvm M.2 with Asus HYPER M.2 X4 MINI CARD Pci Express Adapter - Yes this can work on 1366 compatible mobos which I only have pci express 2.0 but still get (Around 1600 Read/Write speeds)

This is for HDR 4k movies using hdr+ mpc hc & madvr

Worked for me too! I called Samsung Support twice and no one suggested deleting everything but the Image folder.

In my opinion the 1206.1 update from 1203 has materially improved overall picture clarity and colour strength.

Before anyone asks, CAL DAY & CAL NIGHT modes on my KS9800 still has HDR10 working on the new 1206.1 firmware version.

Hmm. When you translate the somewhat subjective term "colour strength" into something measurable, what do you get?
Does the strength of a colour come from its luminance, or its saturation, or its hue?
(Not doubting your sincere opinion, just trying to understand what you are seeing)

Hard to articulate but I would describe it as saturation as if the color setting was increased higher than I had it set at previously.

So you are one of the lucky few, or maybe the only one who has Cal Night mode working after all these updates? Is ur TV 65 inch or bigger? I think theres a correlation there...

The procedure I posted was only way I could get update to work on my 65”. Food for thought how bad is ppl’s light bleed clouding on like a YouTube black test screen with smart led off? Mine has the lower corner flashlights and some clouding? Cause for concern with smart led off or no? Thanks

When using cal night mode with HDR, what happens on each color setting of auto and native? Which 1 is more colorful?

No it says I'm in hdr mode with cal night but the video settings i have set-up don't actually change it retains my sdr settings which is how I know it wasn't working cause I can switch off cal night during the hdr movie but then it won't let me switch back to it while the hdr is playing.
