I believe that sonoftumble will update his calibration settings when he has the time, although at this point it may be worth waiting for the next firmware revision, which shouldn't be too long in coming.

Is there a new firmware coming.. hope Amazon HDR is added... Also since reading that Forbes article, it looks like Vizio will be revising there DV spec to fix grey blacks thru HDMI.. wonder with SoC on this tv vs DV software how that affect picture... Got lg up970.. was lucky one who upgraded DV in time... We will see

What are the differences between the 2016 M50-D1 and the 2017 M50-E1?

Hey Guys,

Updated HDR white balance settings ( Offset and Gain + 11 point ) The settings for green were off a bit.

Enjoy. Feedback always welcome! The last two attachments are HDR-10 and DV This is about as good as we are going to get with this hybrid HDR but not WCG panel.

Thanks, @sonoftumble plugging them in now.

Quick question: for SDR, are 11 point 0-50 all zero? I saw that some in that range had valued other than zero.

@sonoftumble , Are you sure about the Green values in offset and gain for DV and HDR10? They give me overly green images with the black levels, especially noticeable with widescreen content (2.35:1). Or is this set specific?

They might be panel specific. I spent a ton of time trying to get the RGB balance to behave in the offset and gain settings. If they look really green then you should probably zero them out. I will take another look later in the week.

Hi @Roadwarrior123 ,

I went back and compared my most recent settings ( Rev. 6.0 ) - prior to yesterday's ( Rev. 6.5 ), and there really wasn't much of a difference overall; EXCEPT for the GREEN settings. It's very strange, as I didn't rush through this. But as you will see below, the changes in green - for both offset and gain - are very obvious. By comparison, the other colors show only minor adjustments. Also interesting is that you are seeing more green when most of the new settings show quite a bit of effort on my part to reduce the green readings that I was getting. So it's a head scratcher.

Since the SDR settings were hardly changed, I'm just going to chalk this up to phantom readings and changes in lighting throughout the afternoon when I ran this session. ( The M70 is now in a different room because of the OLED. lol )

I recommend going back to the Rev. 6.0 settings for HDR - specifically the Offset, Gain, and 11 point only; since everything else is very similar to each other. Let me know if that looks better. Pretty sure it will. I will be updating the Rev. 6.5 post after I hear back from you.

Sorry about that.

HDR-10

Previous - Rev. 6.0
Ofs: R: -3, G: 0, B: 1
Gain: R: 7, G: 4, B: -17

New - Rev. 6.5
Ofs: R: -5, G: 13, B: 1
Gain: R: 5, G: -10, B: -15

Previous - Rev. 6.0
11 Point:
10%: No change - zeros
20%: R: 5, G: -12, B: 5
30% & 40% - No change - zeros
50%: R: 9, G: 0, B: 0
60%: No change - zeros
70%: R: 0, G: 0 B: -1
80% to 100% - No change - zeros

New Rev. 6.5
11 Point:
5%: & 10%: No change - zeros
20%: R: 9, G: 0, B: 5
30% - All 0’s
40% R: 4, G: -19, B: 0

You are very welcome. Just to verify that you are aware, I updated the post today. The new (old) settings should fix the green HDR issue. You are using those settings . . . correct?

@sonoftumble plugging the updates in meow, will provide feedback.

Quick question: what's the 5% 11 point under SDR? It looks like it might've been cut off. Thanks!

That was an Oooops typo. I just fixed it now. I borrowed the layout from my OLED post. The OLED has a 20 point grey scale.

Hello great work @sonoftumble ...as previously indicated that green offset goes straight Patty's day on my screen, I own M65 2016..at about 1 setting, on hdr10 I start noticing green tint... Really interesting how ur 70inch calibration is producing high count of 10... Also on DV, that gets green at around -2 ... But I managed to just lower offset.. great work

I, too, saw the green on HDR10. I just loaded your updated figures and it is definitely better. Thanks!

@sonoftumble Just to confirm we are to use settings from post 9755 for SDR and DV and then the new REV 6.5 adjustments for HDR from post 9763? I see you edited your original post but the HDR settings there still had the green issue if I'm looking at this correctly? Thanks for the hard work as always!

The settings from post #9755 were edited and the HDR-10 section with the green issue has been corrected.

Thanks for your hard work in calibrating @sonoftumble !

I'm wondering if your settings will work on a m55-d0 model.

Thanks!

I'm not sure. Being that it is a different panel, there will most likely be some variances. It won't hurt to give them a try. You can always reset the color tuner if they don't look good. The best way to determine if they are working well with your panel is to look closely at flesh tones. Disclaimer: Use a well produced movie or other good source. Don't compare with local news flesh tones - as they are always jacked up - the makeup people sometimes get carried away!

Thanks dude. Couple of things. I assume we should leave the default HDR color to 58? And I have a 5% on my color tuner. Also fwiw these settings make my screen look very green for DV content. Also when i was on the roku HDR source my judder was ghosted out??!

For DV, I would just zero everything out and give that a spin. You shouldn't be having all these green problems. I'm going to do a factory reset and start from scratch. I will also make sure that Vizio didn't sneak in a new DVGR while I wasn't looking. Whaaaaaa!

I also have the M55-D0 and have been using @sonoftumble settings since I joined this forum. All have looked great, maybe I got lucky on panel selection. You'll just have to plug em in and see for yourself. Just updated from Rev6 to Rev6.5 and still loving it (haven't done HDR-10 settings so can't speak for the green issues). Thanks again tumble and best of luck h1pp0

I put the new 6.5 settings into my Oct 16 m55d0 and the initial results look much better. I was having issues with Bosch Season 3 via my Roku Premiere+. Most skin tones were way off (heavy brown? cast)and now are much more normal. I would not say HDR10 is perfect but is better than what I was getting. The same scenes in smartcast SDR are more natural in tint quality but overall saturation is subdued in comparison. I watched the first episode of Godless in DV and three episodes of Longmire (SDR )last night via smartcast and both seem excellent to me. Hopefully Amazon will enable HDR vis smartcast soon for comparison. After writing this it seems I should try more more smartcast HDR10 for comparison. Thanks for your efforts and willingness to share your work.
