Thank you guys, especially Dan... the problem I was having was not th tv, but rather the xbox. I found a fix for that on another site. I also got a wireless access point to improve the wifi connection for the tablet-tv connection and it's made a world of difference! I'm much happier with the tv now.... picture quality is substantially better. I think it was being downgraded before by trying to connect to a weak wifi signal. I did a factory reset on the tv and never setup the wifi, so I know the tv is using Ethernet and it's much more reliable. Thanks for the help!!

What did Vizio add to the 2016s that the 2015s M series does not have?
I have a 2015 M50 and I am wondering if it is worth looking for an upgrade since the 2016s are probably about to get really cheap since its the holidays. Thanks.

Can somebody confirm, if mX0-d3 supports 50Hz refresh rate at any resolution?

As you can see, a sound bar won't look right. And when I tested this, it's back so far that the sound reflects weird when your ears hear it... So, my next question is, does anyone have the Vizio SmartCast sound bar with this the new M series? Would this work best in terms of functionality with the vizio app, etc. turning the tv on/off and sound bar will automatically just work with no extra remotes???
I still think a soundbar would look great, and there are quite a few now that include the left/right/center in one piece for the front. Then you could easily still do 5.1 or 7.1 and would look good with TV right above it using an extension arm with such a deep mantle. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree but an extension arm to swivel and move the TV side to side is almost mandatory to do a fireplace setup properly. My fireplace has a recessed area but is too small to fit anything other than a 50" probably so an extension arm lets me mount a much bigger TV in that spot.

Better contrast, double the active FALD zones, HDR and a control tablet. A pretty big jump actually.

How deep is your mantle? You posted a couple of different pics, if it's the really deep one you really, really need an arm mount. So far back like that is literally adding almost two feet of viewing distance and wasting the 4k. Also a soundbar would absolutely look and sound right if you did it that way. Anyway, we can agree to disagree I guess but if you want it to look and sound right you gotta bring the TV from way back there.

I guess going back to the tablet casting - I was assuming the tablet is 720p so casting the tablets screen to the tv (which I have to do in order to watch kodi or other things ) it only casts to my tv in 720

My other tv with built in apps, the streaming quality isn't limited by the casting device cables etc it's straight up 4K uhd if possible.

I would like to know how to better use my tablet and how to cast my tablet in higher resolutions.

PS
I am also stuck on a side track observation
My iPhone can "cast" YouTube app and Netflix app in 4K.
But other apps require a device like Apple TV.
Why is that needed if both those other apps could do it just over wifi?

Hi, I'm looking for a 65" 4k tv to replace my Vizio e3D470vx. I would love to get another 3d tv, but the LG UH8500 doesn't have as good PQ compared to similar priced Samsung or Vizio and their 3d OLEDs are way out of my price range. I watch 2d far more than 3d so I'm just going to get a 2d tv and hope 3d OLEDs come down in price in maybe 3 or 4 years.

So I'm considering the Vizio M65-D0, but I went to 2 stores (Best Buy and Costco) and BOTH of them had a Vizio M series with 1/4 of the backlight out. That concerns me so I'm also considering the Samsung UN65KU6290, same as the KU6300 but with a basic remote. I'm not all that interested in the smart remote as I'll be using a Harmony.

Which would be the better buy? The Samsung is $120 cheaper also. Thanks.

Vizio has far better motion, which I think is a huge factor, on top of the active dimming and true 120Hz panel seals it on the M series for me... for any less I'd get the Vizio E series which I think is $100 cheaper than the Samsung and pretty much the same performance. Not that the Samsung is a bad TV, but even E series you can control with your own phone or tablet as well... Personally I feel the M series is worth the extra if you can afford it. The backlight being 1/4 out on both demos had to be some fluke, the demo unit I saw and my own is excellent.

Sounds like you need to use more apps with built in casting, like Plex, then you aren't just doing Android screen mirroring, which is what you are referring to when sending the whole screen. Quality video isn't intended to be watched that way. That's what you're limited to 720p and is a little jumpy to watch. I think it's an apple thing why more apps don't actually cast in iOS, as it's essentially a competing platform.

I would as well. I snagged a 2015 M50 back in May when walmart had them closing out for $298. Its a great bedroom TV for us but now if i can find a 2016 M50 on sale I'm going to jump all over that. The 2016 has a better picture by far and also the casting feature to me makes it worthy of an upgrade.

Hi,

I have an M80-D3 on the way. Two questions:

- The Yamaha RX-V373 receiver I have claims to support a 4K pass-through. Will this work with all content on the new TV?
- Is there any way to stream content in a quality that is close to Blu-ray?

Thank you

To answer your 2nd question:

For non-HDR The Crown on Netflix (2160p) is the best looking show out there, beats any 1080p bluray IMO. I was watching it 2 nights ago and thinking to myself: man practically nothing happens on this show... but I don't care. Marco Polo is the best looking HDR show.

You might want to check out the Nvidia Shield for Kodi. It works great and you get all of the other benefits of the Shield.

Note that the 2016 M50 still has 32 led zones, compared to 64 in 55" and up.

It would, probably. I was just saying it's something to think about. I think that the 55" would be a far better choice.

Supposedly there is a way to stream 4k files with the Plex app. Me and a friend are trying to do this but aren't having any luck. The latest version of plex says you can do this. Can anyone give some tips?

Wondering if I should make a new thread about streaming on 2016 Vizios?

So the zone number is still the same according to your post for the 50? Then the only difference is the cast tablet or am I missing something?

I don't believe the plex app supports casting 4K yet.

You can check here under tech specs: https://www.vizio.com/m50d1.html
I think the image will still be better than on the 2015 models, also you're getting HDR10\DV and cast support. I just think that with BF deals it's probably worth forking out a little bit extra for the M55 for the additional size and led zones.

Hey everyone, I purchased the m65-d0 on sale for $999 at Costco. I haven't been able to find any good picture settings for this set as of yet. Usually I go off of Cnet's recommendation, but David K. didn't give one on this set. I tried the rtings.com setting and wasn't a fan of it at all. I use the set mostly for gaming in my man cave and I have a Playstation Pro. Any suggestions?

Both the Calibrated and Calibrated Dark out-of-the-box settings are pretty good. I use Calibrated with some initial color tweaking from rtngs. I then ran the Disney WoW disc and ended up not making any changes. Of course, this is subjective and may not tickle your fancy.

I would suggest sifting through this thread and playing around with what different folks have done to find what makes you happy.

I would suggest sifting through this thread and playing around with what different folks have done to find what makes you happy.

Can I run the Disney Wow through my laptop and calibrate the tv that way or do I need the disc?
