I wouldn't. In Photography a well done HDR image just has a little more dynamic room compared to non HDR images, In fact most people can't pick out these images as HDR because they look very natural. They are not done with extreme highlights & shadows & overly saturated colors. The difference between these images is slight at best. But many people on the net prefer the over the top HDR images.

I wasn't able to compare the two but everything I read says there is a big difference between 8bit (this set) and the KS8000 (10bit or HDR1000). This set is better than a normal 8bit tho because it offers HDR dithering which can be difficult to tell the difference from a traditional 10bit set. Also, the wide color gamut the KS8000 offers really makes a difference when viewing HDR content, from what I read.

I was more focused on the price of this set and the fact that it was 4K, not realizing that HDR is the future....

But, is this the same for televisions? In terms of video games for instance, HDR content is said to much, much better than normal 4K content.

For video games I will bet most people like & want the over the top look since video games are animated. It's a matter of preference. I game with game mode on & my other settings pretty much match my regular TV viewing settings. Except for sharpness which I left at the default game setting of 50 & BL.

Are you using one of the newer HDR compatible systems (PS4 PRO, XBOX ONE S) that is what I was referring to. These systems were developed for purposes of playing games in 4K and HDR. From what I researched HDR is a much larger improvement that 4k alone.

This is the link I got most of my info from.

I'm not. But I've seen the image they produce in another 4K HDR set. My boss/friend has a KS9000, XBOX One S. The games look to my eyes very unnatural & the colors are too saturated for my taste. I prefer images to look more realistic. If that was my set I would start by toning down a lot of those settings. But it's matter of preference, no wrong or right answer.

If it makes you feel better, HDR is still very new. By the time you buy your next TV HDR will probably be mature.

Remember we all have different likes/wants. Just because I didn't really care for it doesn't mean you will too. But if you are the type of person that needs to have the latest & greatest gear, whatever you buy next, will be obsolete in about 6 months. Technology changes very rapidly.

Banner top of screen when TV is turned on

Purchased this tv over the weekend. Every time I turn it on it has a banner up top I think showing the input being used. It will then go away. Is this banner necessary? Can I get rid of it? I figured out how to get rid of the smart hub on the bottom that kept coming up every time I turned on the TV. Thanks.

I just picked up the 40 inch 6290 at BB for $299. I actually prefer the non-fancy remote that comes with it, although the online manual says it does come with the fancy one. Haven't unboxed it yet. I'll be setting it up and torturing it tomorrow.

For what it's worth (and who knows if it's true) the sales guy said that in his experience, many manufacturers do a run of TVs for the holiday with (mostly) the same feature sets and same quality panels and processing, but with a slightly modified model number and a lower price. So the 6290 is $50 less than the 6300, and (maybe) comes with a non-fancy remote.

What I really wanted was the Sony XBR800, but could not justify the additional $250 for a bedroom set. But man, was that ever a good looking set. Wow.

You're right. And I will/do love this set. Picture is amazing. Can't beat a 60" for $700.

I was so excited that the 50" 6300 was part of the BB Elite Pre-BF sale, and that they shipped it out quickly and got it to me yesterday. Sat down to test it out and the component inputs don't work. I can't find any mention of this problem anywhere, so I'm assuming it's not a common problem (or that no one uses component anymore, so they wouldn't know)? I'm going to take it back to BB when they open, but I'm not sure whether they'll let me exchange it there or will have to re-ship it to me since they're likely holding onto their stock for BF.

Just curious as to if there are any other common problems that I should check on before just relaxing and enjoying my new set.

Thanks!! ♥

I'm thinking of buying a UN60KU6300 while on sale this week for $700. Is this the right thread to ask for feedback on price, quality, alternatives?

Thanks...

It's an amazing set for the price. I have the same one and I love it. You won't find a better set for $1k and under. If this the amount of money you want to spend you should definitely get this set. The only alternative would be the KS8000 line but it's going to be about $500 more.

Bottom line if you are looking to spend under 1k then you don't want to buy another TV. You'll love it!!

Thanks for feedback. It will just be for watching TV shows, no sports or games, so a higher-end model wouldn't be worth the extra cost. And 60" is as large as I can handle with current arrangement.

I see viewing angle and remote are weak points in reviews. Mine will be in a corner so angle shouldn't be a problem, but I'm wondering how bad the remote is?

Also is 3-year protection worth $80-ish?

The remote takes a little while to get used to but I like the minimalist design. It's very simple and it has everything you need in a remote. It was able to pair with my fire tv box but I haven't tried any other devices. There is some color drop off when looking at an angle but this happens in most tvs and it isn't nearly as severe as other sets I looked at. The smart hub is great and all the popular apps are there. Youtube videos in 4k look incredible and there is some 4k content on Amazon Prime too.

Oh and I would definitely get a 3 year protection plan if it's only $80. It's always good to be on the safe side if you plan on keeping it that long.

It's a great set for the price. Should hold us over until UHD, OLED and HDR mature.

I never buy extended warranties on any products I buy except for TV's. But regardless of the price of the TV it will eventually fail & might not be repairable! They are disposable but the manufacturers will never tell you this fact.

4 years ago I paid $999 for a Sony 50EX645 & bought the 5 year extended warranty. After 3 years the panel developed a line on the top & was unrepairable as per Sony. Since I bought the extended warranty Sony bought back the TV from me for $999. I used that money to buy my 55KU6300 from Best Buy at the time for $599 & moved the Sony to my basement to replace an old tube JVC 27 inch TV.

I would definitely buy an extended warranty.

Thanks for feedback on the UN60KU6300. It's $700 at Best Buy, Target, Walmart and even direct from Samsung. Any thoughts on which would be best to buy from? I'll probably add 3 year coverage if that factors in...

Dunno if it is an option for you but I got it from Costco. It automatically adds an extra year of warranty and you got 90 days return policy.
