Thanks for the quick responses! Regarding Andy's question, it is very "sporadic" which has me baffled. I watched The Revenant last week and I only noticed very faint light-bleeding during one scene. In fact, it usually isn't nearly as bad as the picture I posted. Just to give you an example of how good the bars can be with a shot where you would possibly expect light-bleed, I'm attaching a pic from Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/attach...1&d=1474123540

That is about as bright as a shot can get and yet NO LIGHT-BLEED! I simply can't figure out why it is so sporadic.

Looks like the "leak" is a zone. With 96 zones it literally looks like the bright bulb at the top of the screen

That's precisely what's happening. Although the dimming scheme on the 940d is great, there's no cheating physics.

FWIW on my monitor the upper left black bar on that pic is lighter than the rest also.

The search must have expired.. In the upper right of the page when you are in this thread, there is an option to "search this thread". Click that and search for "input lag". That will return a bunch of posts that the subject was discussed in.

It's unclear to me whether or not they checked to see if:
1. All of the HDMI inputs have the same input lag in Game Mode (there has been discussion about HDMI 2/3 being different than 1/4?)
2. The lag is the same in Graphics mode
3. The UHD color setting on/off makes a difference in readings
4. The amount of lag added by setting Clarity (strobing) to max
5. Input labels makes a difference

That's a real bummer if the minimum input lag is 42ms and the review didn't miss anything that would result in lower readings.

Yes, it is on my computer monitor too. But it doesn't show on the iPhone or iPad, and I can't see it on my 940D either (and I'm watching in a totally dark room). The plot thickens!

All kidding aside, what would cause the light to bleed into the black bars with some shots with bright objects while other shots (with just as bright objects right next to the bars) have no or negligible light-bleed? For example, in The Revenant there is a real "torture test" in one scene where men are walking in dark woods with torches and my 940D fared well in that scene. This was the UHD/HDR version of it too, so it was plenty bright.

I absolutely LOVE my 940D but I'm really annoyed by this issue. Having come from a Pioneer KURO Elite (the PRO-151) I'm used to no light-bleeding, though I am happy to say that the black levels are actually better on the 940D by a long shot.

Really looking forward to your assessment of these two!

BTW, have you experienced light-bleed on your 940D? If so, how often does it happen and how bad is it? Again, I simply LOVE the 940D when there isn't any light-bleeding, for the blacks are phenomenal, the colors are gorgeous, the clarity is superb...ah, you get the picture (PUN intended).

OFFICIAL Sony XBR-65Z9D Owner's Thread [no price talk please]

I keep meaning to write my full impressions but I'm lazy and I don't have time right now. I'll just say this and it's basically the same thing that 10k said. I'm coming from returning the E6, B6, Vizio P and Samsung JS9500. I'm very picky. I don't think about returning the Z9D at all. In my opinion, it blows all those sets away. I'm extremely happy with it and never sit there watching tv and freaking out over things that bother me. It doesn't happen with this set. I highly recommend it.

Awesome.

What hdr content do you plan to use?

I would highly recommend the LG HDR demo videos because they feature black torture scenes as well as very vibrant colora.

Yes I'll try and use those if I can find another usb stick to put them on, will also check the uhd blurays I've got (the revenant and sicario).

But can you play those 4k movies simultaneously? You might wanna make sure you have a 2nd usb, you don't want any regrets because doing side by sides is a pain the butt to set up (I've done it quite a few times)

My favorite LG Demos (from the YouTube app) are:

1) OLED Light Graffiti
2) Paris Night

Samsung also has some good demos:

1) Sensational Picture
2) Nature

One of the best for showing COLORS on animals (especially SNAKES) is: Costa Rica in 4K w/Freefly

^^^^^^^^^^

I should have mentioned...another thing I love about those demos is they are all in 1.85:1 aspect ratio so I don't have to be concerned about letter-boxed bars. The blacks on the 940D are awesome on all the LG OLED demos! I spent another 20 minutes in a Best Buy showroom yesterday comparing the Z9 and the 940D and the blacks looked identical to these eyes. Having said that, the Z9 was brighter, with punchier colors and a wee bit more details.

On the Samsung JS9500, the worst thing was the motion. You can't turn on any motion smoothing without stuttering on any Samsungs since the C series. The 2nd thing was the extreme curve causing funhouse mirror reflections.

The Vizio P...again the motion stuttering and just generally dull looking picture on cable. I also had a very noticeable yellow band down the middle that is apparently quite common.

The E6 and B6...when the source isn't great, the OLED brings out more flaws than you would see on any other tv. Near blacks are often a mess. More noise, more posterization, more artifacts. The other thing would be the motion again. It stutters on certain sources although less than the other two. It's also not that bright for daytime viewing in a well lit room. No problems with the Z there.

I would highly recommend the LG HDR demo videos because they feature black torture scenes as well as very vibrant colora.

Are these on you tube? Or is there a better source with less compression?

A few posts back someone was asking if Dolby vision could be enabled via an update.
This was from a Cnet article:

Unlike new TVs from LG and Vizio, none of the TVs announced in 2016 by Samsung and Sony will support Dolby Vision. In addition -- and this is critical -- there's no way to add Dolby Vision to a TV via a software update. It requires Dolby's chip (or system on a chip), Dolby's certification process and, of course, its licensing fees.

Overall, the YouTube 4K demos look excellent, in spite of the compression factor.
