Dv and HDR+ are better than hdr10 simply because the processing is made frame per frame. All tv's are benefit from it, no matter cheap or expensive from what i had understood and saw so far.

The conventional wisdom is often wrong, and Vincent already proved it with YouTube clips. It's also quite evident if you watch DV Netflix stuff like Godless, Altered Carbon and Lost in Space. Don't use badly mastered Marvel stuff to demo DV...

Now my tinfoil hat has me thinking Sony has been sandbagging Oppo so Sony would have the first DV player. As far as I can tell, the X700 uses Mediatek SOC... but the only mainboard photo I could find has the chip covered by a heatsink.

The bottom line everyone wants to see what DV Disc can do on a Z9D imo a Z9D running HDR 10 kills a comparable Visio LCD running DV and gives OLEDs a run for their money! Lets see if this is the end game! 😉

I wonder if it's just me and the fact that I see more posterization on my Z9D than I did on my old Samsung plasma?
Even in modern 4k hits like Justice League, it's a little disappointing?
I am using pretty much the settings everyone has been posting, so it's simply the inherent nature of the screen or 4k or something I am missing?
I sit 2.8m from my 75" Z9D.

I just happen to have that one...Looks like I will be going to Best Buy after work to pick up the X700. I have an X800 and Oppo 203 already. I had Dolby Vision with my LG C7P, just haven't paid much attention in the last 2 months since I got the 75" Z9D.

Yeah, I watched a bit of it last weekend and it is reference quality. It was like watching the film again for the first time.

I am eagerly awaiting for my Pre-pro and and 4K BD Player to be updated so I can do some HDR10 and DV comparisons on the Z. Even in HDR10 it was absolutely stunning!

Does the Xbox One X support DV? Or do we need a seperate 4K Blu Ray player for this functionality?

Thanks!

Blade Runner 2049 is not DV on disc, it's only DV on Vudu. BR2049 was originally supposed to have DV, but it never got it. This is the best list of DV movies. You can't even trust the packaging these days.

Hoping the X700 release means the "problems" for Oppo will disappear soon.

Do you actually think this is happening? Is there even the slightest shred of evidence to support these claims? Is Sony is going to Dolby and asking them to delay Oppo support? Are payoffs involved? What is Sony offering Dolby to accomplish this "sandbagging"? And what about the Panasonic 820 which will have DV support some time in the future? Doesn't Sony have to get Dolby to ignore Panasonic for your "theories" to hold water?

Besides some conspiracy it seems more likely Sony had Dolby verifying their update before anyone else since Sony had already demonstrated DV with the X700 at CES. They were just first in line.

Agreed, Sony's delay was likely related to "legacy" DV support and not profile 5 (as you say, it was working at CES). OPPO's delay is related to profile 5...BOTH involve Dolby's certification which is where the bottleneck is.

Well FYI guys, since I asked about it here you go if you want to test 120hz on your Z9D/ZD9

just watched a youtube video bam.

Here you go...

1.
Settings->Video output->video fidelity& overscan->Display Connection = "HDMI" (auto will not work)

2.
Settings-> Video output->Display Resolution 1080p->60hz or 120hz

To get 4k back you have to go and reselect all the 4k, 3D, HDR, 4:2:2 boxes again... sigh why Microsoft why!!!

Oppo isn't bankrupt. They only closed the production of their AV division to focus on their phone range. Firmware updates and support will keep coming. The only change is no more players are being made.

I tried some scenes from The Matrix with Dolby Vision enabled on the X700 and of course it looks incredible. The picture settings automatically defaulted to "Dolby Vision" picture mode and maxed the contrast. Does anyone know if the contrast setting is on the same stepping as Cinema Home or is it boosted like on Cinema Pro?

What to have my brightness and contrast at for HDR material is something I've struggled with. I don't have bias lightning and watch in the dark so I figure I don't need max brightness and contrast, but does lowering them not give me the full peak brightness required for demanding scenes?

Tomorrow is Z9D day for me, can't wait! I hope I get a good one. Going from 128 dimming zones to 800 and the Z9D is roughly 3x brighter than my Vizio P 2016 across the board.
