I suppose an explosion in the mainboard or in tcon board is not possible with all this overclocked trying right?

I'm playing Destiny 2 on the Pro and now I have blanking every 5 minutes or so on my 75Z9D. Last time I saw it must have been a month. Still don't understand why it comes back every now and then, seems totally random to me.

Has there been a new firmware after the latest DV update to fix this? My TV's aren't connected to the internet and I haven't been keeping up with firmware updates.

There was a release in Europe recently that "said" it addressed this issue...can't confirm it actually works though. Hopefully we will see this fix soon.

I just looked it up and you're right, most recent firmware over here is from 5-23-2018 which I do not have.

I see it does indeed mention "fixes a flinkering/blinking issue when HDR is set to auto". I guess that should be it. Among many other things being mentioned, there is also talk of "fixes an issue of reduced brightness when playing HDR content". I wonder what that would have been about?

Anyway will download this on USB and update tomorrow.

Is Destiny 2 in HDR mode on your setup? Can you describe exactly what blanking is like on your system? Does the entire screen go black for about a second, or is it more of a short flash or blink?

Thanks!

PS: Please let us know whether the update resolves the issue for you. I asked about Destiny 2 HDR because the issue addressed by the firmware update is supposed to affect SDR content only. I am experiencing a one-second blackout randomly/intermittently with both SDR and HDR - and am pulling my hair out trying to diagnose the problem.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but using the MLB app on the Sony Z9D 75 inch vs playing he MLB app through an Apple TV 4K box the Sony has remarkably crisper, brighter and more vivid picture even when the TVs settings are the same. This is reproducible and very noticeable doing an AB with the same game. I have noticed this for a while...

So with the Oppo 203, does it matter if I leave HDMI signal format on Standard or Enhanced for Dolby Vision? Both grey out picture mode adjustments.

Yes, Destiny 2 is in HDR on the Pro.

When the issue first started for me after the DV update, it was both a short flash/blink but also a blank, with the screen going black for a second. Actually I think it's signal loss because when it comes back on, resolution and HDMI port info are being displayed. But when I was playing Destiny 2 yesterday, it was all blanking, sometimes 3-4 times every 15 mintues. Very annoying!

I have said this a couple of times before, the issue is very inconsistent and only on my 75Z9D (even though my 65Z9D is on the same firmware).

On our Sony firmware webpage, it specifically says it would fix the flickering/blinking for both SDR and HDR content. As my issue is very inconsisting and sometimes doesn't appear for weeks, it will be difficult to tell whether the update has fixed it. Unless the blinking comes right back ofcourse... Hopefully not.

Edit: I took a look at the Sony page again and I was wrong. It says "fixes an issue with flickering/blinking for SDR when HDR is set to auto". So not for HDR content itself. Going to update now, we'll see what happens.

I'm getting blinking, in the form of half a second of black, every 10 minutes or so, but only when a 2160/50p signal is input. ie from my Apple TV 4K.

24p and 60p play back fine into the Z9D, but when it's asked to play 50p, the blinking starts.

Sony Australia has not issued any subsequent firmware update since the initial Dolby Vision update. I'm not sure why they're waiting, as it appears a fix was rolled out in other territories to alleviate this issue.

Been doing A/B comparisons with my Samsung 4K BR player and my new UBP-X700 from Sony. Basically HDR 10 vs Dolby Vision.

At first I was like, I don't see a difference, but then I started doing A/B comparison with them both connected, and actually the DV movies are significantly better. So I have retired my Samsung 4K player to my bedroom, which was the original plan.

Starting game of thrones in Dolby Vision this weekend, never watched the series, but Season one came out in 4K Dolby Vision, so should be pretty nice. Hopefully they can keep them coming out fairly fast.

My friends who do not have DV are jelly that I am actually watching DV BR discs. lol, have to admit been a long time coming.

To me this definitely gives the Z9D a kick in the pants for overall value.

I'm planning doing this also once my Panasonic DP-UB820 has arrived. I would like to see the difference between HDR10 and DV as well. But first I'm going to try out the HDR optimizer function and see how it works with my projector.

Seems that you and I (and probably many others) are experiencing the same problem. I, too, get black-screen blanking with both HDR and SDR content (e.g., HDR games on my Xbox X), so I was discouraged when I read the firmware update description on the UK website (I'm in the US), which mentions SDR only.

Fingers crossed that the problem is resolved for you. Please do let us know! Thanks.

Interesting, never seen the blanking issue with any form of HDR. Had the SDR blanking since day one of the DV firmware.

As best I can tell, the firmware update that mentions a blinking problem was released on the UK Sony site on May 23, but nowhere else.

The problem description doesn't match my symptoms, though. It happens to me with both SDR and HDR. Also, disabling auto HDR on the Sony does not resolve the problem for me.

Been playing Destiny 2 for about an hour after doing the update and no blanking for now. Fingers crossed it stays that way for good...

I noticed when bringing up the resolution info on screen, it now has a letter B in front of the resolution? Been wondering what that stands for lol.

Just tried the Steam Link app, and it works on the Z9D. To install, go here and click the button. The app will then pop up on your TV and let you stream your desktop PC's screen to play any game in your Steam library. I streamed Cities Skyline as a test, and it was definitely in 4k. Looked good, but I didn't know how to hook up a controller (I have ps3 and ps4 controllers) to do anything. Going to try to see if I can stretch a wireless keyboard down to the Z9D at some point, but with no way to test properly I went back to watching DV disc content.

Steam Link is a free way to try out the game streaming tech to see if I should just get a Shield and do it right.

Has anything changed with the Panasonic 820 and Dolby Vision? My understanding is that DV will not be in the original release but is promised as a future update. I've learned my lesson with "promised updates" and when/if they will arrive. That's why I haven't ordered the Panasonic.

You're right, DV will be added later on via firmware update. No biggie, as I'm looking more forward in testing the HDR optimizer with my PJ.

I'm expecting it to arrive sometime early next week.

HDR on Netflix question.

So I increased my internet speed to 300mb and upgraded my Netflix account to 4K yesterday. When I was watching Stranger Things my Z9 shows it is outputting HDR. I thought Stranger Things was DV and I have not updated the firmware for DV because of all the issues of blanking and such I have seen on here. So if my Z9 is not DV compatible yet is the HDR I am getting just HDR10 (which is fine it looks great) just wanted to make sure I was actually getting HDR. Thanks for the help.

… Without the D.V. Update your Z can display HDR 10 Material and HLG Material (HDR Format Material received from Satellite/Cable or OTA Broadcasts). And I agree HDR 10 Material does look great !

Uncover the detail with 4K HDR
This TV pairs the brilliance of 4K clarity with the brightness, color and detail of High Dynamic Range (HDR) and can handle a variety of HDR formats, including HDR10, Hybrid Log-Gamma and Dolby Vision™.2

Thanks Tom. So any of the DV content on Netflix will default to HDR10 if the Z9 has not been updated to DV and still play HDR?

… Sorry, I cannot give you a definitive answer on that because I have not watched any D.V. Material or even Netflix in awhile. No doubt you will be able to watch material in HDR but I do not know if you need to manually choose between HDR10/D.V. or if it defaults to HDR10. I am sure others in this Thread can answer your question.

You might have to do a full reset on your Apple TV and try changing the Chroma settings. When you log-in it will remember your settings.

Question....help

I'm trying to decide on either the 900f 85 or the 75inch z9d or wait for the z9f.

I have a 75inch LG 8500, it has Dolby vision, 3d, I'm going to move that tv upstairs and go with one of the Sony's in living room with the in-wall/in-ceiling atmos 5.1.4 set-up.

I'm a fan of 3d but realise I may have to let it go, my LG upstairs in the game room has 3d also.

I really like Dolby vision on the LG I now it will be incredible on the Sony

So what should I do
Go with 75inch z9d, it has Dolby vision, 3d and can stream atmos, has up to 1800 nits of brightness

Or the 85inch Sony 900f, it's huge 85inches, has Dolby vision, but no 3d and has 1000 nits of brightness

Or should I wait for the z9f to see if it meets the full hdr Dolby vision. Specs of 4000 nits and may be has 8k

Fyi: my living room has large windows as well

What do you think?
