I'm a new owner... Is that how we get Android security updates, through Sony firmware updates? Not by going Home--Settings--About--System Software update? Or are they one and the same?
Thanks!

Just bought an open box 75Z9D. It did not have the stand with it. Where can I buy the factory stand for it?

Try contacting Sony.

Is it the same size stand as the 65" Z? I'm sure some members that have them wall mounted (like me) might be willing to give them up if you PM them (or me).

You could put a 'wanted' ad in AVS classified.

About colour temperature: I know that this has been discussed in way previous posts, but I‘m not convinced yet...

I understand it is common acceptance that the way-to-go mode is Expert1... in fact this is what I’ve been using since back in 2016, following @10k and others advice...

Yesterday I run some patterns (Spears & Munsil). When looking for “real/true” white, Expert 1 gives me a way orangy/yellow white. Warm gives me a more real white, but still on the yellow side, and Neutral gives me the closest to true white of all (with just a hint if blue). Mind you, no scientific measurements, just my healthy eyes and my wife’s!

Does it make sense or is there something off with my tv? If it does make sense, why is it still best practice to choose Expert1 instead of Warm or Neutral? ...or is it something conventional that movies should be watched under a yellow/orange-ish tone?

I have tried doing a factory reset, tried changing all the picture settings, changed hdmi cables, hdmi ports, tried different source using TV apps and from an Nvidia Shield. Nothing worked.

I am not entirely sure, but I think that the lines started appearing after I updated to the latest firmware. Because I definitely didn't see them on the first couple of days of receiving the tv.
Searched all over the internet and couldn't find much info about this particular problem so I actually registered an account here to ask for some opinions & help. Lo and behold found your posts showing the exact same problem. I don't think this is just a coincidence, I think this issue could very well be related to the update. [@JG526] & [@cedou97yon], did you guys update your firmware recently too?

Hi Jdgobio,
My set is almost three months old and I just noticed the black / grey lines like what your photos show.
Did you get the panel replaced? If yes, did it fix the problem?

Thanks,
Simon

Ouch! Ebay: $179 and $78 to ship. If you're interested, you can make a reasonable offer to the seller.

My store demo that I bought (or "stole" as Mr Cleveland Plasma put it, because I got such a great deal) arrives tommorow. It was wall mounted in the store and I'm putting it on a stand as well. I made sure to ask the store if EVERYTHING was still in the box. They assured me, stand, screws and all. I see there's 2 parts to the stand so I'm having fears there may be a piece missing. When I see post like yours it makes me even more nervous! I guess I will find out tommorow.

Now being that the Z9D is no longer being manufactured, and is already being discontinued, how likely is it that Sony will keep updating this TV?

With the company’s focus now on the Z9F, it’s quite possible we will see fewer FW updates. So if an issue were to get introduced with a FW update, would the company be in any big rush to correct it?

DV is a very nice feature to have, and it’s unfortunate that my TV did not come with it pre-installed (July 2018 build date). But even without DV, this TV is still the Bentley of FALD sets, and I’m very proud to own one. I guess the only concern I have in doing the update is that “if” an issue occurs after installing the update, will a fix to correct it be issued now that Sony is discontinuing the Z9D?
Someone already pointed out that their Sony TV that is about 3.5 years old recently got an update. If Sony were to push an update that broke things in a major way, you could bet they would focus on another update to rectify the issue. As companies move away from older hardware, while they rarely will focus on new functionality but absolutely will push out updates which fix things. That said, there are rumblings that Android Oreo will be released for Sony TVs soon, so that would mean continued support of new functionality.

The current update has been out almost half a year already. If it had just come out this week I could somewhat understand your fear of updating but between how long it has been out and how active this thread is, you would have heard if there was anything major to look out for quite some time ago.

All that said, you seem extremely weary of updating as you have stated numerous times in this thread. Maybe you should just avoid the update. At this rate, your electricity would probably go out while it was flashing the update.

I noticed yesterday when I tried to play prime video with DV using TV's app, there is no sound to my receiver. I have to change dolby digital plus output to dolby digital then back to plus to get sound.
Also, Bosch season 2 ep. 1 only has 2 channel sound using TV's app, but 5.1 on shield TV. Very weird.

Reset your sound settings, then do a hard reboot of the TV. I had the same problem at one point, and a bit later I was getting no center channel (only L/R) when it was set to DD Plus. Both times the reset and reboot fixed the problem, i.e., let Vudu send Atmos to my receiver.

Got mine for a bargain as well. They took it down from the floor display two days before I walked in and the manager was there to give me the best price. I got it for 4K if you know what I mean.

Did a bit of research and found this on Amazon-

"Fitueyes Universal TV Stand with Swivel mount Height Adjustable for 50inch to 80 inch TV FTT107003GB" for $74.99

For me it's actually a better option because it swivels. Gotta love the swivel.

Getting it all delivered tomorrow!

Marc- wondering what other TVs you were considering purchasing and why you went with the Z9D?

Not yet. Waiting for my roommate to help me lift it out of the box.

What's the best way to install the stand. I was thinking of leaving the protective plastic and foil covers on, laying it flat on a think area rug, and screwing the base on. Then standing it up and lifting onto my large TV stand. Is this the best way?

Assemble it while upright. Since your friend will help, you can lift the TV and slip it on the stand. It locks in and you just tighten in the screws.

Thanks. I'm not sure he can get his arms around it and hold 120lbs We are both pretty scrawny, but we shall see. It's only for l0 seconds while I slip the stand under. I Might be able to sit it upright edgewise on the bottom of the box and slip the stand in that way too. I hate to lay any flat panel down.

Yeah that's probably the best way. We put it on its side briefly and slipped the stand on. Didn't want to lay flat on screen or back side. @Marc You know of course you don't lift out of the box, the box lifts up and you take it off. At least I think that what the box is designed to do.

Well it’s good to know that Sony isn’t forgetting about older model TVs and keeping them updated. Other top brands, specifically LG, have not corrected a well known issue on a certain OLED model (B6 I believe). A FW update caused a persistent “glow” on blacks that should be completely black. The C6 series got this corrected via a FW fix, but B6 owners so far have not, and many are worried that they may never offer a fix.

This news on Sony FW updates is definitely reassuring. Thanks for your helpful info.

I am VERY tempted to just bite the bullet and go for it. All the replies I’ve gotten here have been extremely reassuring. And chances are very slim that anything major (or minor for that matter) would happen due to updating. And if Oreo is offered for the Z9D, and it seems highly probable, it would keep the Z9D at the forefront of FW updates.

Thanks for your input.

Need help please.

I have a six month old XBR75Z9D. I have recently been getting green dots and blanking on the screen via 2 computers attached to the tv. One is an HTPC, and one a gaming computer. I noticed that changing the frequency from 60hz to 30 fixed the problem on both inputs. I figured it might have been a Nvidia issue as I had just updated the drivers on both windows 10 computers. So I tried that first, with no luck. Also tried turning off the HDR option in windows 10. No luck.

Second, I purchased all new hi-speed cables for both connections. No change.

Thirdly, using the tv's restart function to reboot the tv fixes the issue every time. Problem returns next day after everything is turned on again. Restart fixes again. This has got to be a tv issue doesn't it?

Sony wanted me to do a factory default reset but I would obviously lose all my calibration settings if I did that, and don't really see how that would fix anything anyway.

Any ideas from the forum would be most appreciated.

Mark

PS I should mention that these are separate inputs to the TV. HDMI 2 & 3.

I know you replaced the cables and that is a good troubleshooting step but what you are describing as far as artifacts and blanking still sounds like a cable issue. How long are the runs from your PCs? Are the new cables you bought Premium Certified?

The fact that you lower the refresh rate and the issue goes away, meaning there is less data being carried through the cable also points to cables that aren't up to the task.

Lastly, they are connected to HDMI 2 and 3 with the HDMI inputs set to "Enhanced"?

(Sidenote: The factory reset is the typical CYA, "Did you try turning it off again?", "leaving it unplugged for 10 seconds when your internet keeps dropping" troubleshoot method and likely won't do anything.)

*EDIT* OH! Worth trying. Unplug your TV and leave it for a few minutes, then plug it back in. The other week I replaced the HDMI cable with a higher quality one running from my pre-pro to the TV. I reseated the cable and rebooted a bunch of times and I would get blanking at 4K no matter what. Kept rebooting, reseating the cable, etc. No luck. After getting frustrated and a moonshot attempt, I unplugged the TV, took a walk, came back, plugged it back in, rock solid signal ever since.

Yes, cables are all premium certified, ie expensive with great reviews. None longer than 5 feet.

Both inputs are set to enhanced. Funny thing is this worked for quite a while with no issues, now it doesn't. Unplugging the TV and doing a restart is basically the same thing. It reboots the tv. At least that's what I understand. That;s the first thing that the Sony tech had me do. Like i said, it fixes it until the next start.

Thanks for the input.

HDMI cables don't need to be expensive to be Premium Certified, quite the contrary.

Anyway, yes, a soft reboot should be the same as unplugging the TV and letting it sit for a few minutes. However, I shared my story because even after soft rebooting numerous times, reseating the HDMI cable numerous times, even going back to the previous cable I had connected, the blanking persisted.

It wasn't until I got fed up and pulled the power and came back later to plug it back in, that the problem was resolved.

Not saying it will solve your particular issue but there is no harm in trying and you won't lose any settings.

Does anybody using the Logitech Harmony Hub have issues with the remote constantly popping up an error "could not connect Z9D to wifi", meaning I have to push OK after every 5 button clicks or so. Really annoying. My TV is connected to wifi though.

Finally got it all hooked up and watched some UHD Avengers, UHD Fifth Element, some 3D Black Panther, some 3D Ready Player One, and a few various Blurays. All in can say is WOW!! Color accuracy out of the box is far better than my old 2016 OLED. No blooming (that I can see) and I looked HARD. No light bleed into the black bars. I can hardly tell the difference between the blacks on the OLED I had and the blacks on the Z9d. Much more shadow detail on the Sony without elevating blacks. No dead pixels, no banding and best of all, no dirty screen effect. VERY Happy new owner. I could tell I was satisfied because I barely had to tweak the settings. 4 hours of viewing and maybe 10 minutes of tweaking!

About the 3D. The OLED was fantastic with 3D with zero flicker. The Z9D has slight flicker but it doesn't bother me. What I did notice is that the 3D picture seems far more detailed. While the OLED had slightly more depth, the Sony has much more foreground pop out. The coins that they collected during the race in Ready Player Player One flew right into my face whereas on the OLED, the picture seemed abit deeper but didn't have as much foreground pop. Well I've got a few weeks off and a ton of time to watch the set. Super hyped. And yes 10" more from the same sitting position does make a Huge difference!!

Just to clarify, you have the Harmony Elite and the Hub connected to the TV via IP and the remote is displaying that message?

If so, I have the same config and have never seen that but perhaps removing the TV and re-adding it as a device on the Harmony may fix it.

However, my TV did throw a spastic amount of errors yesterday that showed up in the Android TV UI while I was watching a Blu-ray, complaining about a networking error that didn't resolve itself until I soft-rebooted the TV.

Have you tried a soft reboot?
