Great example of X1 Extreme upscaling: love watching a few Science Channel shows and have access to Spectrum and Science Ch. apps (1080p), but rarely use them because the Z handles 1080i cable so well. Cinemotion definitely cures judder on interlaced content.

Didn't look at the list but Pacific Rim 3d will give Avatar a run for it's money. It's equally reference quality in 4k HDR.

X-Men Apocalypse in 4k, Batman V Superman in 4k looks spectacular, Ready Player One in 4k, John Wick 2 in 4k is another reference quality disc and a great flick too

I have a question for those who use Kodi as a media player app.

I've been trying to figure out a way to get my Blu-ray MKV rips to play with chapters and correct forced subtitles. My Sony x700 UHD player does not recognise chapters nor handle subtitles very well with MKV files.

The official Kodi app on Android Oreo is having an issue with the drive path of external hard drive but I found a fork on the Play store called wbmc which reads my hard drive fine however...(and I don't know I'm just imagining things) it looks like the quality of the video is not as good as when I play from my Sony x700 player.

Could that be do the how the Kodi app processes the video files on the external hard drive versus how to Sony x700 player processes them? It is an alpha build of kodi 18...I'm not familiar enough with kodi to understand the video processing piece. I only ever used it to stream UFC fights...

Try unplugging and plugging back in the HDMI cable on the TV.

Also when powering everything back on, try doing them in order from source to TV...such as Blu-ray player ---> AVR ---> TV.

If you have PS4, so it last so AVR, TV, then ps4.

Ouch, that's bad news. Thanks for the heads-up. I hope that you resolve the problem.

If you haven't done so, even it seems futile, I suggest trying a different HDMI Certified Premium cable.

X ignores chapters in MKV and subs need to be text ones (eg from SRT). No go with PGS bitmaps straight from BD disc.
PS You can use Subler (macOS only!) to OCR the PGS subs in MKV into text and store them as SRT. Then you'd remux them into your MKV.

OK guys, after years of contemplating and many months of exhaustive analysis and weeks of convincing (wife), I have finally pulled the trigger and purchased the 75Z9D to replace my 10 year old Pioneer 60" Kuro Plasma - delivery on the 29th. A big thank you to all of the members on this forum for your very helpful inputs, reviews and comments.

I basically snapped one of the last models for sale in Hong Kong at a discounted price and including a healthy trade in value for my Kuro. The model here is made in Japan so I am hoping that this may in some way alleviate the panel lottery risk when it comes to uniformity, banding or dead pixels. It comes with a 3 year warranty.

I am excited and scared at the same time. I really loved my Kuro and it was the best set in the market until OLED came about and when some of the really high end LCDs came. I always thought I would end up with an OLED but at this screen size, OLED is just way out of reach for me besides it would be nice not to stress about image retention and revel in some brightness. My room gets searingly bright during the day so the only way I could ever watch anything during the day with my Plasma was shut all curtains but even then the 300nit peak brightness was always fairly dim. In the evenings though, the Kuro was something else.

However, I sit 12-13 feet away and 60" always seemed small. I would have no problems going for 85" at that seating distance either - but in my part of the world, getting a reasonable price for such large sets is really hard especially for a FALD LCD (i.e 900F). To go 85" I would need to go edge lit and that is too much of a step down quality wise. So I have to settle for 75" and I really hope the Z9D delivers.

This TV, by the numbers anyway, is almost 6x brighter on a 10% window compared to my Plasma and full field this thing is 2.7x brighter than the Plasma is at peak brightness - a lot of that is useful and in some way meaningless for SDR content but HDR changes the game. Black levels would be similar between the 2 but I also ordered bias lighting strips for the back of the TV for night time viewing just in case.

I will come back at some point to harass you guys on settings once again after I receive the set and spend hours looking through all of the settings people have referred to in previous posts.

My set up will use all 4 HDMI inputs (number 1 for my 1080P cable box, number 2 for the PS4 Pro, number 3 for ATV 4K, and number 4 for my (1080p) AV receiver to pass through other legacy devices such as PC (which I don't use for gaming), DVD, Nintendo Wii, another local cable box etc. I will at first use the optical out for audio. At some point in the future I may upgrade my AV receiver to a 4K HDR one - but that is down the road.

It will take a while as I would need different settings for each input. Cable TV - I will use more motion handling and smoothing of the poor quality cable TV (mostly use for sports). HDMI 2 is obviously game mode. HDMI 3 is the full cinematic HDR modes etc. HDMI 4 will be similar to HDMI 1 settings.

Will keep you guys updated on my impressions once received. Once gain....many thanks you guys.

75Z9D has arrived, tv is very good, panel does have some DSE on a extreme test on YouTube. Also it does have some slight vignetting but overall I am quite happy. The grey uniformity is 100% better then my A1E. NO MORE BLACK BANDS!

Sorry for the caps but I’m so thrilled, another thing I’m thrilled about is not having to worry about burn in anymore.

Few requests for recommendations: 3D settings, I see 10ks settings and I have already implemented them but I see no 3D settings. I also need new 6ft 18gbps HDMI cables and a reasonably priced Dolby Vision Blu-ray player.

So what are the "correct" settings for DoVi for brightness, contrast, and gamma? Are they the same as standard HDR (using 10k's Cinema Home settings) or should we use the defaults of max, max, and 0?

I finally tried playing a bit of a DoVi UHD Blu-ray tonight for the first time, Atomic Blonde, and was blown away! I'm pissed that I only watched it in HDR10 last night because I didn't know it had DoVi (thanks X700 and your manual DoVi controls ).

I use my own settings from my calibration with Gamma set to 0 like my other settings. I only bump up Gamma to 1 for DV content on my Apple TV.

Brightness Max, Contrast 95 to avoid clipping, and then Gamma 0 for DV discs.

Do we have any evidence that DoVi will clip with contrast set to Max? Isn't DoVi supposed to be tuned to the TV? While I'm not a fan of TV makers locking out settings. Unless the DoVi processing engine in the TV adapts as you change the settings is seems like the TV should be set a certain way to get Dolby Vision to look the way it was intended to look.

PS You can use Subler (macOS only!) to OCR the PGS subs in MKV into text and store them as SRT. Then you'd remux them into your MKV.
PM me for more details, we are getting off-topic here.
I know this is a bit off topic but wanted to report my findings back in case anyone else runs rips from a hard drive. I have discovered that if you simply have subtitles in SRT format and name them exactly how the movie or tv show file is names, there is no need to remux. The x700 will use external subs without any issues. Discovered this by accident after spending the entire day yesterday remuxing videos...figures...lol

Thunder and the house of magic for a great 3d experience. It's animated, but it's the best 3d I've seen.

Haven’t loved a TV this much since my 65ZT60, I’m so happy I made this choice. Anyone interested, TV was purchased form BB, delivered yesterday Aug 2018 build date and it was made in Mexico. So far from what I can tell the set is basically flawless.
