Maybe someone can pull it up, but there was a leaked Sony presentation image which ranked the image quality between all the various models. The 900F was still below the 930E. I believe it was the number of local dimming zones which edged the 930E over.

Does anyone have any "inside" news if the 930E will be re-placed with a 930F this year??? Has anything been announced even unofficially. Or will the 930E's life be extended thru the year (much like the Z9D that has been extended as much as it has).
If you go with the 930E I recommend you stay away from anything that's not NIB. Lots of returns at great prices, but is it worth the risk.

I only buy NIB....from a main authorized dealer such as BEST BUY/PC RICHARDS/CRUTCHFIELD to name just a few....never refurbished...never scratch or dent...never open box...I wouldn't gamble....Just my opinion.....
All my devices including my 65 inch 930E were purchased that way....been very happy and successful with all my purchases and wouldnt change...

So hey guys, remember me I bought a 65 930e on feb 15th and it has cosmetic damage. Sony wouldn’t replace it when I called the next day so I returned it to the store I bought it at in which they would not replace either. After a few days and stern words they agreed to replace it.

Well that was feb 21st and I still don’t have a replacement lmao this has been an absolute nightmare. The store picked up my damaged unit tge next week and Ive heard nothing but excuses as to them dealing with Sony to get me a replacement... a fully paid tv at that. I actually had to get my lawyer involved to get a brand new replacement from this store after a month of dodges and excuses ect. They were trying to give me a refurb at the full price point and I wasn’t having it. They were just trying to run out the 90 days like scum bags

It was ordered today, they called me and said it will be in store on Tuesday for pickup. My lawyer advised me to have them open the box in store to show me the tv and If I don’t accept it I can get the charge reversed on my debit.

So it’s still not over, and On top of the $2600 CAN I paid for it on sale at $900 off it’s cost me hundreds more for legal intervention. My advice, only use large repairable companies and use a credit card ... My god lol

Just to try and cover my purchase. When BB shows up I'll be recording the tv being taken out of the truck to coming in the house and finally being taken out of box, plugged in and turned on.

Just finished watching American Assassin and the entire end credits exhibit the same issue. What sucks is that I don’t have a Dolby Vision ultra Blu-ray player to test. I only have the Sony x800. I would like to know if this is an Apple issue or the TV.

Send a message via AIM to abrgwjj
Tonight I downloaded the last 930e update from Sony. In typical Sony fashion, it states that:
the update Improves general performance of the TV. What does this mean? Specifics please.
Improves performance for Amazon Prime® video playback. Again, what does this mean?
Can anyone help please.

Long time lurker, first time poster! I picked up a 55x930E and have been thoroughly impressed with the performance. My panel is about as perfect as can be to my eyes and experiences no gray uniformity issues, banding, dead pixels etc.

I had a calibration done as was very pleased with how it measured.
Additionally, my calibrator did it with the auto local dimming off. I'm based out of Utah so the options were slim. I've heard auto local dimming on low/medium after the fact can improve black levels but with it turned on after the fact, it skews the picture quality. We corrected with both the 2 and 10 point which is now causing picture quality to skew when local dimming is flipped on. I've already reached out to other calibrators to get their opinion. Thoughts?

I'm having trouble updating my TV via USB. I've tried twice following all the instructions on Sony's support site including formatting the drive as FAT32 but when I insert the USB drive with the update .pkg file on it, nothing happens. I've tried all 3 USB ports on the TV. There's no on screen messages even after waiting for over a minute. How soon after inserting the USB drive should the on screen messages appear?

When formatting the drive, all content is erased and then I save the .pkg file on the drive. There's no folders are any other type of file on the drive other than the unzipped .pkg file. Am I doing something wrong?

Does the TV need to be on a specific input to update via USB?

Nope, nothing special you have to do other than have the set on at the time. I'd extract the zip file again from the original download and try again. I always use the 3.0 USB port for firmware updates. It should start automatically. Verify the original downloads file size and that of the unzipped file. Worse case you might have to try another USB stick but I bet it's something simple with this one.

OK that's what I assumed. I couldn't update to 0075 via USB either and had to wait until I could do it over the network. I did verify the ZIP file download size, but Sony doesn't list the size of the extracted .pkg file to verify. I'll try it again with a few different USBs I've got laying around.

It should be fairly obvious when the update process start right? I assume it takes over the TV screen from the show that was on? I just don't want me pulling the drive out after a minute because I don't see anything happening cause me to damage or brick the TV because the update was actually happening in the background.

Have you tried to display a photo or play music or video with a USB to make sure the ports work?

Here are instructions from Sony:

[32] Using the TV with Other Devices | USB devices

Information about USB devices used for storing photos and music

The USB ports on the TV support FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS file systems.

When connecting a Sony digital still camera to the TV with a USB cable, USB connection settings on your camera need to be set to “Auto” or “Mass Storage” mode.
If your digital still camera does not work with your TV, try the following:

Set the USB connection settings on your camera to “Mass Storage”.

Copy the files from the camera to a USB flash drive, then connect the drive to the TV.

Some photos and movies may be magnified, resulting in low picture quality. Depending on the size and aspect ratio, images may not be displayed in full screen.

It may take a long time to display a photo, depending on the file or settings.

In no event shall Sony be liable for recording failure or any damage or loss of recorded contents caused or associated with the TV’s malfunction, the USB device’s malfunction, or any other problem.

No I haven't. I've just put the update on 2 different USB drives. If neither of those work, then I'll try viewing some photos from a USB drive. Thanks for the suggestion.

No risk, no reward they say, depends on the deal. I would buy a scratch, dented, or refurb depending how much it was

USB 2.0 is slower so the whole process takes just a little longer to start and finish. The drive size is important because there's some room needed for the install process. Should not be an issue, but you never know since there's no error messages. Many of my non-tech friends still have tiny USB 2.0 drives so I usually ask about size :-)

Have you used any of your USB ports for anything else? Most of the LED lights, for instance, exceed the USB 2.0 port specs. The USB 3.0 port is even close for the larger strands.

Have you tried a hard/cold restart by removing power, waiting for 10 minutes and then reapplying power?

I'm wondering what would happen if you restart the TV with the USB drive plugged in? I've never done this with this set, but I wonder if upon reboot the TV might do a check on the port, see the drive and then start the install.

The drive I'm going to try tonight is 4GB. I'll plug it in and give it a few minutes before I give up on it. I guess maybe I'll have to wait for this update to be made available to me for network download direct to the TV.

Maybe someone else will respond with feedback on the drive size. I thought I remembered hearing of issues with anything smaller than 16GB, but I'm not sure to be 100% honest.

If the need arises then the 3.0 drives on Amazon are pretty cheap these days.

I wanted to add that because of your drive size you might want to try giving it a lot more time to start! Might be more swapping in and out of memory because of the drive size. Again, not sure, but I think the drive size could be your issue.

What’s up on amazon prime hdr ? I just got it and any hdr gives you straight grey bars ? I’ve had to go through my PS4 pro and disable hdr to watch movies such as the wall with normal bars. So I don’t get hdr this way just 4k. Only prime does this on hdr ? What gives

No lol. I’m talking about OTA update. I didn’t get the OG DV update via internet or usb. So I’m asking because of that is that the reason I have not received the current update yet via internet?

I don't think USB 2.0 or a drive smaller than 16GB has anything to do with it. I did an update with a 2.0 4GB drive last month without any issues. I think the key is making sure it's formatted and the extracted file is the only thing on the drive. Worked like a charm for me.

If I restore the TV to factory settings do you think I’ll be able to get the update then?

I agree that the solution is most likely a simple one! Freshly and correctly formatted drive which is a step often overlooked. A simply copy of the extracted folder onto the USB drive with NO modifications. Leaving the drive in the TV long enough etc...

BTW - USB 3.0 is considerably faster than USB 2.0 so it does take longer with USB 2.0 which was my only point.

Dolby Vision on Amazon Prime Canada

Hey guys I just got around to updating via USB today. I used a 16 GB USB 2.0 stick and updated using the USB 2.0 port with no issues. I couldn't find any information via google about any Dolby Vision content on Amazon Prime Canada. Do you guys know if it's available in Canada and if yes what content may have it?

Thanks

I’m happy to report I got the update to work. I used a different 4GB 2.0 thumb drive with just the .pkg file on it (and not the extracted folder). It started updating about 10 seconds after I plugged it in. I guess there must be something wrong with the other thumb drives I tried. Thanks for all the help and advice.

I’m also happy to report that initial tests show the high pitched audio pop when changing sources seems to be fixed. That’s why I wanted this update so bad. Hopefully it proves to be completely fixed.
