I was always concerned with IR on the pioneer, never watched letter box content on it. Probably babied it too much but thats ok, think i could get another 2-3 years on it.

bought some cheap sharp 60" for $530(that i am exchanging for the sony), so my eyes are ready for an improvement

Since I will be gaming on my pc more than watch blue ray I am thinking of connecting my computer to HDMI 3 and connecting my LG UP970 Blue Ray to HDMI 1. My only question will be if HDMI 1 supports Dolby Vision?

So for now I am thinking of this setup

HDMI 1 = Blue Ray Player
HDMI 2 = Apple TV 4K
HDMI 3 = computer for 4K HDR gaming
HDMI 4 = Nintendo Switch

What do you guys think?

HDMI 1 will support Dolby Vision (not at 60 FPS), but I’m not aware of any blue ray players that currently support Sony’s implementation of DV.

Thanks for your reply.

So if HDMI 1 supports Dolby Vision also then may be it will be fine to connect my LG UP 970Blue Ray Player there sine I may not use it as much.

Surely will game more with my computer at 4K HDR.

So I guess my set up makes better sense?

HDMI 1 = Blue Ray Player
HDMI 2 = Apple TV 4K
HDMI 3 = computer for 4K HDR gaming
HDMI 4 = Nintendo Switch

Just double checking that both HDMI 2 & 3 support 4K HDR right?

Correct. Might be the same features in the update but different package. Everything isn't always region specific but most times it is. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Well it's around 39 to 40 percent more viewable area over a 55 inch set so that might be about right.

There was a promotion for buying between 3/18-4/25. I believe those were the dates listed? The selection wasn't great. I didn't know about it until I saw the offer on my TV.

I was browsing the menu on the tv and it showed up on the special offers section. Unfortunately when I tried to use it it said no longer available.

Also when I tried the google play one, it said I could apply the $14.99 SD credit.. which means I have to pay $5 more for the $19.99 UHD versions.

I’ve been running Sonos since my 930D, relatively no issues. The occasional audio sync issue where the audio is behind the video, but I haven’t noticed any recently. Sonos updates their app/system pretty regularly. That being said, I would still prefer an HDMI soundbar setup I think, such as the ST5000. Optical just seems so limited with its audio format decoding.

I've decided on a Sony X930E, but am still not entirely decided whether I should go for 55" or 65". I originally was only looking at 55" but that was also because the LG C7 was my first pick. Now with the X930E, if I stretch the budget a bit, I can actually have a 65". Everyone seems to say that I should go 65" (have a 48" Panasonic now) even though it looks like it will be huge in my living room. Then again, viewing distance is 10.5 ft.
Apart from the price (the 65" is 50% more expensive), I'm a bit hesitating due to panel uniformity. I've read before that the bigger the panel, the more problems with uniformity. I'm a bit allergic to clouding so DSE on a 65" should definitely not be considerably worse than on a 55".

With that viewing distance you need 65" to be able to notice 4k vs 1080p.

I was wondering how everyone is setting up their Picture settings, if all of the input sources are coming from a receiver outputted to one input on the TV (HDMI 2, in my case for enhanced 4k).

I'm using Denon 4300H receiver. I have a Sony UBP-X800, a Directv HR24 tuner (non-4K), a PS4 Pro, a Toshiba HD-A35 and a Mac Mini connected to the receiver outputting to my 930E. My issue is that the picture settings required for the 4KUHD blu-ray player, Directv and PS4 Pro, require different settings. I'm assuming I will need to switch picture setting manually per each source?

The number one reason for buyers remorse is screen size, buy the bigger set.....

I see the 2018 Sony sets come with an updated VUDU app for 4K and DV (per VUDU). It is not available for the 2017 sets (yet?) and it was not included in the latest firmware update. What are the chances Sony might still provide this updated VUDU app for older sets? Seems a shame the internal App for VUDU does not do 4K or DV on a 2017 set. That actually seems like a crying shame - or worse. I know many don't care about streaming but a 4K set that does not support 4K streaming for a popular service seems wrong.

EDIT: If anyone has had success side loading the new VUDU app please share.

VUDU has said they are close to releasing an update version of the app in the Google Play Store. The latest post from them on their forums stated that they found bugs with HDR which they claim requires fixes from Sony. I don’t know how that could be possible considering it works on the 2018 TVs with the same chip, but that’s what VUDU is claiming. As such they are deciding whether to release a 4K SDR update or wait for Sony to update the software.

I'm having the exact same issue with a recently purchased ct800 soundbar, I have PS4 Pro, Nvidia Shield and cable going to soundbar, then out to TVs hdmi (ARC). Everytime I switch sources I have to change picture settings and soundfield, very frustrating to say the least. I like the soundbar but if there isn't a solution its back to TV speakers for me.

Yes, it works fine, but may be buggy. I think after an update it will only do 5.1 if you go into setting for speakers and choose "audio system". Before i didn't have to do this, but it seems like this is how it should be anyway. Now the tv speakers cut off when you choose this. Before i would have to turn down the tv volume when i want to use the sonos or both would be outputting sound at the same time.

Are you guys using the wall mounted sound bar? Last time I checked the Sonos Playbase couldn’t support the weight of the 930E.

I am getting ready to purchase a 65" 930E to replace a 6 year old Sharp 60" as it seems to be a lot of TV for the money. Just curious will I notice much of a difference in picture quality compared to my Sharp?

I would YES! However, remember that your PQ has a lot to do with the content. Quality content along with a strong signal in will result in a fantastic picture out! 4K/HDR is very, very nice!

Just upgraded from a 55" 4 1/2 year old LG (still a good 1080P 3D TV) and its now in the gaming room as a 2nd screen.Your jump from 60" to 65" probably won't be as noticeable as mine. The move to 4K however will be noticeable and Sony's upscale technology is superior. So if you have content that isn't 1080P or better it does a really great job to make it as good as it can do.

Sony's android interface is pretty good but not ultra quick and has lot of applications. But if you use another device say Chromecast ultra or PS4/Xbox than this may be limited functionality for you. I do find the voice search great for getting content on Youtube really fast. Watch more youtube stuff now than I ever did.

Dolby Vision implementation is half ass and if you not in the US we don't have it yet other regions. If you happy with HDR10 than its still good buy. X1 Extreme Plus is used in this years model so one could hope Sony and others will sort it out. If you get DV just consider it as a bonus not a given. If you really need DV look elsewhere.

For me jumping from 55" to 65" and 4K boost that it was a very noticeable upgrade. HDR content is still kinda light on and from what I have seen this TV is plenty bright to handle 4K HDR content.

Yep, that I know but to be honest, for me 4K is not really what I need. It's HDR and excellent color overall that interests me most.
Anyway, as said, what I'm wondering is to what extent uniformity/DSE is more of a problem on a 65" than on a 55". The 65" is expensive, bulky and heavy enough that I'm not eager having to return a bad unit .
