Recently when using the internal Netflix app, the Netflix red logo shows up, but the circle below it just keeps spinning and will never open. What I have to do is got to Settings/Apps, scroll all the way down to Netflix and do a Force Stop and then I can open it, however it's a pain because then it makes you log back in with User ID and PW. As long as you leave the TV on, it works fine, but the next day it repeats the same thing. I don't think it's my account because Netflix works on other devices in the house. Thanks

I haven’t seen that, but you can try clearing the cache and data for Netflix. That tends to fix random issues with apps that just pop up.

On a side note, there’s an easier way to get to the force stop option for an app if you are using the Oreo update. Go to the Apps menu (hold down home), go over the app and hold down select. Then choose info in the menu that pops up. You can also clear cache from there.

On the Nougat software you can just hold down home and kill the app that way.

After one week sending pictures, videos and proof of purchase of my X930E blinking issue, Sony just called me (yes, today Dec 25th) to let me know that they approved an in-home exchange with the same model or a newer model. I told them that I want the same model (55X930E) or my money back as the equivalent would be the X900F and I don't like that TV set. Of course the replacement would be a refurbished model but with 2 years warranty. They are calling me in 2 days with all the options available for me to decide.

Clear the data & cache in the Netflix app. You'll have to sign in again and check your Netflix settings but hopefully you won't have that problem again at least for a while. The Netflix app is right below Music, they're listed alphabetically.

Clear Data & Cache
Press the HOME button.
Select Settings.
Under TV category, select Apps.
Under System apps, select your preferred app.
Select Clear data.
Select OK.
repeat with cache

Sony is offering me a brand new 55X900F as a replacement for my 55X930E with blinking issues. I told them that I want the same model but it's not available even refurbished. Is the X900F a solid set? I asked them for my money back but if the X900F is a good set, I'm OK with that. They are also including a 2 years warranty on the replacement set.

The X900F is a pretty good set. It’s the successor to the X900E though, not the X930E. The X900F has a better response time, so it’s better if you are a gamer, but the X930E has better blacks and can get significantly brighter, so it’s better at HDR and SDR (in bright environments).

Well, Sony called me again and they approved a full refund for what I paid ($1498). I had to draw lines with permanent marker on the screen and cut the serial number sticker in two parts and reply with pictures. I already did so now I need to find a way to erase safely the permanent marker lines until I get the refund check on the mail which will take 6 weeks.

Same is happening for me since update. I also did a factory reset after the update so I have a clean start, I also force stop the app but I am curious as to why you have to re enter your credentials, Force stopping will not delete your credentials.

How are you getting some sort of royal treatment? Did you buy directly from them and bought their own Warranty? Did you say you owned many Sony devices?

Not sure what did you mean by royal treatment. I did what they ask me to do which was sending a video of the blinking issue. Then they called me to tell me that repair was not possible so a refurbished unit of the same model would be the most probable option. Then today they called again to let me know that no 55X930E refurbished were available so they offered me a 55X900F brand new with two years warranty and I said no. Either the same model or my money back. 30 mins later they called me back to let me know that the refund was approved. Next steep was to send pictures of the TV screen with lines draw with permanent marker and the serial number sticker cut on half which I did. Now the next steep is to wait for a phone call from Ceva Logistics to schedule pickup of the damaged unit in about 7 days, then after the TV reach Sony's warehouse they will process the refund check. I'll be without TV for about 4 to 5 weeks but at least I'm getting what I paid for it. I guess if you are in the same situation just ask them for a refund instead of a replacement. I did buy mine from Amazon (Video & Audio Center) and no extended warranty. The TV is only 7 months old.

So I have a 65x930e that has a 1-2 pixel wide vertical line (sometimes black, sometimes green) that goes from the top of the screen to the bottom towards the right side of the display. If I apply just a bit of pressure to the bezel on the bottom of the screen where the line ends I can get it to go away. Sony is offering up a 65x900f as a replacement. I am still uncertain whether this set is inferior or whether I should go for the offer. I was wondering if there is maybe anything I can do to possibly repair the set myself. I am quite handy with electronics, so opening it up and putting it back together doesn't scare me off one bit. Obviously if you all think I should just take the offer from Sony I don't want to open up the set at all. Thoughts?

Sorry, gonna share 2 thoughts.

As far as the replacement 900F vs refund I would think it depends on what you paid for your 930E. If it were me I know the 65" 900F is $1600 right now, I know I paid $2000 for my 65" 930E(was actually $2500 but dropped 4 days later so I got a price match) so I would not be happy with the lesser and cheaper set as a replacement IMO. I would rather get my $2000 back and have my own choice of paying more for something else or saving a couple hundred and getting the 900F. If I could find one ,the 65" Z9D is $2000, the 75" 900F and 940E are $2800 all at Best Buy(I didn't even check anywhere else). I know I would rather pay $800 and get to go up in size too, or if I didn't want to spend more I could still buy the 900F myself and save money, so with other options out there right now I think getting the refund was the better option.

Fortunately though my 930E is still holding strong minus my occasional powering on issue. Which brings me to my second thought about said issue. I took video of it and will have to post here just to show what I was talking about. Was the worst case yet 2 days ago where the TV would not turn on but was definitely pulling power as the bias light would stay on indefinitely vs turning on randomly when the TV is actually off(which I know is normal behavior). This is the first time I had to unplug to get it to work again. Today it wouldn't turn on correctly and I seen the backlight flash for a second and heard the click sound the TV makes when powering on and off, but the Tv did not come on. TV was definitely still off though as I could not turn on the bias light. Luckily today the TV responded to the second power on command and all worked well. Not sure what is causing this honestly but something I am definitely keeping an eye on.

My 55X930E screen is blinking and Sony offered me today as exchange a 55X900F which I said no because that's not an upgrade and more like a downgrade. After explaining to the lady why was a downgrade, I refused the exchange offer and asked for a full refund. She called me back 30 mins later to let me know that the refund was approved. I'm getting a check for $1498 and right now I can get the same TV (55X930E) from Best Buy for $1098 so $400 to my pocket and still the same great TV. If you paid more than what a 65X900F cost right now, I would ask for a refund and put the difference in your pocket. Take in count that the refund check could take 6 weeks and you have to return the bad TV in about 7 days, so 5 weeks without TV unless you purchase a new TV with your own money before getting the refund check.

I have agree that you are getting a lesser quality set than what you had. Sony should do the right thing and go up one level rather than down one.

I know but the problem is what is the next level up? There is no way that they are going to replace a X930E with an A8F. I think in my case the best option was getting the refund. BTW, after reading the post above I just realized that the Z9D is for sale at BB for $1999. I think I'm going to order that set and done. I need to put $500 only and I'll be getting the best LED TV from Sony to date as the Z9F sucks in many ways.

Not sure how it works on a TV screen but we used to write over permanent marker on our sales white boards with a dry erase marker to remove idiot salespersons customer info when they accidentally grabbed the wrong marker off of the sales desk to log their sale. I think a magic eraser works as well.

I was able to erase the permanent marker but either way, Ceva Logistics is coming next week to pick it up then when Sony gets the TV delivered in their warehouse, they will process the refund check. I just ordered a Sony 65Z9D from BB for $1999 Which is the TV set I wanted in the first place but it was almost $3000 seven months ago.

Damn. That was some good horse trading there sir. Goes to show you the number one lesson in sales still works. Always ask for the business and assume the sale. My experience with TV warranty repairs/replacements have been hit or miss. Once did really good and once did really bad. I think you just did good.

All good points but Sony lists only repair or replacement with refurbished or new under their warranty TOS all at their option. No cash reimbursement listed and chances of everyone with defect issues getting that under a basic factory TV warranty are pretty slim. Doesn't hurt to ask though. Enrico's story is proof of that. Thoughts?
I wouldn't open up a TV that's still under any type of warranty. If you don't want to go TV shopping again you might ask for the added 2 year warranty that Enrico said he got offered with the replacement or try your luck at the refund option but just understand there is no obligation under Sony's warranty TOS to give cash refunds so YMMV. If you get a replacement set try to get a new one over a refurbished. The X930E isn't in production any more and they didn't replace it with a newer model this year so making you whole again (which also isn't listed in the TOS) is hard for them to do and even if they still made the 940E I wouldn't want it. Usually they diagnose the issue first with a technician visit and then order replacement parts or total it and move on to the replacement options but it looks like they might be out of parts for the 930E. For every story of great upgrades or consumer victories there are the majority of warranty issues being resolved in the manner the warranty paperwork describes so be nice, be persistent but in the end be realistic and fight the battles you know you can win. Best of luck.

Well I am past the 1 year warranty from Sony so if my power issue gets worse or the TV ever craps out, I would have to use the 5 year geek squad warranty and if Best Buy can't get parts to fix it I will definitely get my money back in the form of store credit. But hopefully, for anyone having to go through Sony, seams like they may be willing to do the right thing if they cannot properly replace the TV with an equal or better model.

Reminds me when I had a KS8000 with screen issues and Samsung only offered a NU8000 as a replacement. I said the Q7 was the real successor as the NU was a good deal cheaper, didn't even have quantum dots or come near the KS brightness. They wouldn't give me a Q7 cause at the time it was $1000 more than what I paid for the KS. That lead me to using the geek squad warranty, tons of issues with them and ultimately my free upgrade to a Q7 or my final choice the 930E which was the same price at the time. I got a little extra out of Best Buy cause they actually broke the screen during a repair attempt and tried to just give me my money back but I argued I could not replace the TV with another of equal performance without paying more so they ended up giving me my refund and a $1000 gift card to cover the cost of the Q7 but I went with the 930E instead.

How widespread is this blinking issue? My x930e is already out of warranty and am hoping this does not become an SXRD green blob-like epidemic.

That seemed to work. Thank you!

Yes I read it. I turn off my TV (IE standby as it's never really off) and the next time I launch Netflix if I get the spinning as you do I force stop the app, re launch and I am auto logged in as I should be and am able to use the app from there on till the next time. I'll try the clear cache and data (which will make me sign in one time) and see if the issue stops.

I think the Netflix data/cache gets corrupted somehow and needs to be cleared. It might be a Sony software Netflix software compatibility issue since this is the only TV I have this problem with and only with the Netflix app and no others.
Clearing the data and cache seems to fix the problem for a while but not permanently.

Here’s a link to what I recorded quickly while I was having the power on issue. Mind this is the worst case I ever had and had to unplug the TV to get it to respond again. Usually in the past it’ll respond to the remote after a few seconds or a minute. Though not in the video I did also try the stock remote with same results. I didn’t shoot the video until about 5 minutes of it failing to respond.

I have a separate remote for the bias light which we all know is needed to keep it from sporadically coming on whenever the TV checks in for updates or whatever it does, so it was really weird I was able to turn the bias light on and it stayed on the entire time until I unplugged the TV. When the TV is normally off I cannot turn the bias light on as there’s no power to the usb. Sometimes when I fall asleep and the TV shuts itself off I’ll wake up to the bias light coming back on so I know the usb gets powered during these brief moments and this problem seams to me like the TV gets hung up in this background activity.

I may try disconnecting from the WiFi in case that is causing the TV to get hung up in the background or something, I don’t know.

Yesterday night it responded to the power on command and I heard the click noise it makes and the backlight blinked briefly but then nothing. Fortunately a few seconds later it powered on with another command. There are periods of days and even weeks I never see this issue and then there are consecutive days it shows this issue so I’m not really sure what causes it. Once on the TV is perfect with no other issues. This is literally the only problem I have with this TV.

Also please don’t mind my terrible commentary as this is prime example why I’m not a YouTube sensation!! Lmao

You can try the on button on the back left side of the TV to see if it’s a problem with the remote. That or use the TV’s actual remote.

For what it’s worth, I used to have this problem occasionally back durin the summer where the TV refused to turn on and I had to pull the plug (seemed like it crashed in standby), but I haven’t seen it since the September software update. As such it’s been fixed for me.

Although not in the video I did try the TV’s stock remote and it didn’t respond either. I did not try the button on the back of the TV however. Is there a way to stop the TV from “checking in” or whatever it’s called that causes the USB ports to power up while in standby? I have a feeling it’s during these that it becomes unresponsive until it’s done doing whatever it’s doing.

We’ve gotten 2 updates since I’ve noticed this and I’ve done a factory reset since too and neither of those helped. It’s really sporadic though. This was the first time I had to unplug the TV too. Just Odd, thankfully it’s works perfect once I get it on and I do get lengthy periods of it not happening too.

I was having the same issue about 4 months ago (4 times in one week). I called Sony CS and they asked me to do a "Forced Factory Reset" and that fixed for good the no power ON issue.

Is the “Forced Factory Reset” different than the “Factory Data Reset” I did after the last update?
